“Very Good Hotel”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

Good points - excellent location less than a 2 min walk from the beach/main street, very clean, good size pool with nice features, impressive entrance/reception/foyer area, good shower and always hot water available, loads of cameras around the hotel so felt safe and didnt mind leaving valuables in the room compared to other places - though still used the safe anyway, food was good with plenty of fresh fruit etc available, freindly and good english speaking staff, good private balcony.

Bad points - as I said the food was good, though after a week of all inclusive it became a bit repetitive though this would be true of any hotel I would imagine. Due to the shape of the hotel the pool was in the shade till around 11.30am and began going back into the shade at around 4.30pm - causing the water to be pretty cold and a bit of strategy needed to pick where to place your sun lounger. Fairly expensive bar when there is 2 much cheaper bars right at the hotel entrance and 2 supermarkets as well. Had booked a double room but just got 2 single beds shoved together, which slid apart at the very merest of movements. Would be small rooms to be spending any more than a week in. We had a bad balcony view but that was just luck of the draw - not every room can have a good view! Horrible night entertainment - cringe!

Overall an excellent hotel at a very reasonable price, good points far out weigh the bad points (realistically the bad points I listed are petty enough - certainly nothing to say I wouldnt go back). Would definately stay in it again and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Get a safe. Fridge is supposed to be hired - dont bother. It can be opened easy enough with anyting...

Would like to start off by saying I have never written a review but feel it completely necessary! After reading the bad reviews on here I must say I was terrified to come to this hotel and even thought of switching hotels but im so glad we did not. I was there with my 2 kids and my parents and it was an amazing holiday. Rooms were cleaned spotless everyday, staff were friendly and couldnt be more helpful. He men who worked with the kids club and mini disco were fantastic. At our evening meal we always left full as there was enough food for everyone of us who each eat different. We were also there when the people with special needs were there and can honestly say the staff were not laughing at them, they were helping hem enjoy their holiday as the staff did with everyone. Im absolutely appalled that people would even think that never mind say it! Hotel is close to shops and beach and would definitely recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view room

The hotel is in a very convenient location, the beach is ten minutes walk, the main shopping stretch is also ten minutes away and the supermarket 'supermacado' is just across the road on the opposite side of the square.

The evening meals run over 2 sittings, one at 6.45 pm and one at 8.30pm. We were allocated second sitting on arrival - no choice is given. We felt this was too late to eat but they said they would try and change it. However, we were told that the Dutch people like to eat early so it was as if they had priority. The meal never got changed all holiday, even though we asked a few times. This was a disapppintment.

The pool area is kept spotless but once again towels are reserved on sunbeds at 8.00 am and then you do not see people again until mid afternoon. This is problematic because the pool area is not that big and 3/4 of the sun beds are gone by 9.00 am! Signs say not to reserve sun beds but this is not enforced.

Meals are good, plenty of choice, fresh fruit, salad etc. Bacon not so good and swimming in grease, so maybe one to avoid. Be prepared to queue for toast. Restaurant large and gets quite noisey, we had a table overlooking the square which was very pleasant.

Room was lovely and overlooking the square which was nice to look out when having a drink on balcony. The room was spotless and maid service daily. TV in room only gets one English channel which is BBC news channel.

We travelled with Thomas Cook who were fairly good but their trips are too expensive. For example, a trip to Neu camp and free time in Barcelona was 59 euros each, whereas with Planta travel (across from macdonalds on prom in Salou) it was 31,95 euros each
for the same trip.

Overall, we had an enjoyable holiday in a good hotel - as others have commented, their were about 80% Dutch and Russian leaving very few british people to mix with.

Positives:
- spotless hotel and rooms
- maid service was fantastic, excellent attention to detail
- perfect position, very close to the beach and main strip
- not overly crowded, always manage to get sunbeds, tables etc.
- friendly staff
- fab selection of foods for both breakfast and dinner (half board)

Negatives:
- walls were very thin, could hear conversations in the next room!
- the pool was shady majority of the day due to trees and buildings

Otherwise we had a brilliant holiday, somehow managed to dodge paying for the fridge as ours wasn't locked in the room! Would recommend this hotel. Don't know what all the bad reviews were about, people are too picky!!

Portaventura theme park is a definite day visit! It's brill! Tickets can be bought cheaper from the Internet!

My partner and I stayed from the 27/8 to 6/9. Generally it was a good stay but a few minor details really let the experience down.

We were pleasantly greeted and given our room on arrival (€52 down due to safe and tax) with no problems. On first inspection of the room on the 3rd floor overlooking the children's pool which was technically a 'sea view' room even though a neighbouring apartment blocked any chance of seeing the sea, seemed extremely clean. However, we found that there must have been a small hole in the bath which had basically been plastered over and looked ugly as well as a broken plug in the sink. Sleeping on the bed was like laying on concrete with a sheet on top; as the week passed, both of us began to feel the strain of such a hard bed. His knees began to hurt and my shoulder locked up. We also had twin beds when we asked for a double.

Location wise, the hotel is excellent. It's a 10 minute walk to the Portaventura parks and about 15 to the train station, which are both very easy to find. It is 2 minutes or so away from the beach front and literally round the corner from what I will call the market strip, even though they're not stalls but tat souvenirs shops.

The maid on the 3rd floor was lovely and made us feel very welcome. She also did an excellent job every day. The restaurant and pool area was also exceptionally clean most of the time but I was disappointed with their staff. Don't be fooled by the images on the Easyjet site and here: the pool and surrounding area is tiny!

The food in the restaurant was repetitive. I didn't mind the mains but my partner really did not like them. We ended up eating out for the last 5 nights of the trip. Breakfasts were fairly good but not the best quality of food I have had in other 4* restaurants.

My main gripe which I think ruined my perception of the hotel was an incident on 4/9. A group of adults with learning difficulties had come to the hotel maybe the day before and were staying on our floor. One of the men was very charismatic and liked to try to speak to everyone which was lovely, until he befriended the daytime entertainment staff. The male member as well as the first aid boy who couldn't have been older than about 20 decided it would be a great idea to put Gangnam Style on over the speakers around the pool. They gave this man a microphone and encouraged him on stage to sing along. Once that song had ended, they played with the music tracks while still encouraging the man to sing and dance while they and others laughed hysterically at him. I thought that this was very cruel and disgusting behaviour to use someone's disability as entertainment.

Overall, I think this is a 3 star posing as a 4 star hotel and not doing it very well. Generally needs a bit of improvement.

Again an excellent service from staff, and the maid service was fantastic. Everywhere was again spotlessly clean, rooms cleaned every day and thoroughly.

Meals were as good as ever, with a spotless well kept restaurant, with such a wide variety to eat.

This time I have dropped a point only for the fact the beds were 'Rock Hard', no good for anyone with a back problem, they really were like sleeping on a board, but this was the only fault, but I've pointed this out in case anyone does have a problem with very firm mattresses, could make a difference to them.

All in all I would go back, no hesitation, superb hotel.
