We stayed at the hotel from July 27th - August 3rd and had a fantastic family holiday. We arrived around 6pm and check-in was empty so we were all sorted within 5 minutes. We used Resort Hoppa for our transfer and they were waiting for us on arrival, and picked us up bang on time at the end of the holiday.

Hotel Facilities
The hotel has two beautiful pools, and most rooms look out onto one of the pools. There is also a large paddling pool type pool at the far end near the children's club. Our favourite pool was the one with the sandy beach, and it was always possible to find free sun loungers. The hotel also has a little football pitch, a play area, a volley ball area, pool tables, air hockey and Xbox stations, so plenty for the kids to do.

We had a standard room in the Aribe block. Our block was only 2 stories high, and we were on the top floor, so noise wasn't an issue at all. The room was perfectly adequate for our needs, it was clean, the air-con was effective, the decor all in good condition and a lovely view of the pool from the balcony. We only had one child on the sofa bed, but I think if you were travelling with two older children you would be better off having four proper beds rather than squeezing both on the sofa. There was a fridge in the room, but ours was pretty ineffective apart from keeping the drinks vaguely cool! The bathroom had a bath towel and hand towel for every occupant which were changed daily, as were the sheets on the bed (which invariably get sand in them!). There was also shower gel and shampoo provided in a dispenser by the shower. The shower itself was great! The rooms had very effective blackout curtains, so the early morning sun didn't wake us up at all.

You have to choose a breakfast slot for each day of your stay at check in and we chose the 10-10.15am for most days. On the days I needed an earlier breakfast, guest services on the check-in desk simply swapped my tickets over without any problem. That said, I saw people at 10.15 handing in a 9.45am ticket, so I really don't think they are that fussed about it within reason.

If you are half-board you can either eat in the Caribe buffet any time between 7.30-10.30pm without having to do anything. If you want to eat anywhere else (any of the other hotels on site, or the other restaurants in Caribe) you have to go to guest services before 6pm and they will issue you with a ticket. We ate at the Portaventura buffet a couple of nights, because you aren't limited to a specific time, and can just pop in whenever it fits in with your park visit.

We found the buffet food at the Caribe to be excellent with a very wide choice each night. There were always a good selection of hot dishes plus a range of meats, salads, breads, cheeses and desserts. There is a little freezer that children can help themselves to ice lollies/mini pots of ice-creams. (adults too of course!). Apart from water, drinks are not included in the half board price. A glass of wine cost €2.50. The range of food was the same at the Portaventura Buffet, but the service wasn't as good - always a queue to get in and a wait until drinks arrived.

If you eat at table service restaurants, you get a voucher equivalent to €22 per adult and €11 per child to use against the bill. I ate in the pizza restaurant at Caribe, and after starters, main course, drinks for the kids and wine, only had to contribute €1.50. The restaurant was quite though because most people go to the buffet, and didn't have a lot of atmosphere, so we only did this once, but the food was good.

The portaventura snack bars all sell the same range - mainly hot dogs (€4.95+) burgers, pizza slices and toasted cheese sandwiches. There are also fruit stalls, yogurt stalls and of course ice-creams. Being half-board, we found that we didn't need much in the day anyway.

There is a water/juice machine at breakfast, and also tea, coffee and hot chocolate all included. I took water bottles down to breakfast & filled them up with cold water each day to give us a head start on the drinks bill! In the park a bottle of pop costs €2.70 and a small bottle of water is €2. There are water fountains dotted around the park as well. I took a few of the little Robinsons squash concentrates with me and made water into Ribena very easily!

The Park
If you don't like queues you have two choices - either buy a fast track pass (buy from the hotel to avoid the queue at the park) or go in the evenings when the queues drop down to 10, 20 or 30 minutes (compared to a 3 hour queue that we once saw in the day, though to be fair, the average queue seemed to be 1.5 hours) Make sure you go to some of the shows which are excellent, especially Bang Bang West. It takes a while to get your bearings in the park, but there is a great app that can be downloaded that has an interactive map showing you where you are!

We used the free land train to get up to the park. It is walkable, but you do so much walking when you are actually there, we saved our feet. They do sometimes check your hotel passes though, especially coming back at the busier times in the evening, and I saw them frequently ask people who didn't have a pass to get off the train. The train drops you off just outside the main entrance, and this is also where you pick up the tourist train to Salou. There are 4 different routes, but they all go down to the beach at some point, and they all drop off at Portaventura, so you can't really go wrong. There are a few cashpoints in the park and one in the drop off area before you enter.

Water Park
Guests staying at the Portaventura hotels get 30% off the water park admission price, so for three adults (a child over 10 is an adult) it cost €58 for one day. It was great fun with lots to do. You can rent a locker and we found sunbeds towards the back of the park easily even though it was a busy day.

I found a week more than enough to do the theme park, the water park and a beach trip to Salou. All in all a fantastic holiday at a beautiful hotel.

Having stayed here twice before we decided to stay longer as 7 says wasn't quite enough. We stayed for 11 nights this time. Loved the holiday, you can relax by the pool and take sun breaks on the island and have a drink and snack although this is quite pricey. Take the free land train up to the theme park and watch a show or go on a ride. Characters visit the hotel daily although it did tend to be Woody or Winnie woodpecker most days. It's a short flat walk into Salou approx 20 mins. We also visited Tarragona which is beautiful catch a bus it's about 30min journey. Once in Tarragona find the tourist train to discover more only 7euros for adults all day you can jump on and off at various locations. Cambrils is a short bus ride small fishing port with great fish restaurants. We love this hotel and will visit again. Check in service has improved immensely and queues moved quickly. I had to visit a doctor whilst at the hotel and the manager, Richard, sorted for me to be taken by car by the bell boy up to the theme park to be seen at the medical centre in there. The bell boy waited and brought me back to the hotel. Superb service! This year the clientele were mainly English which is hugely different from previous years. Mini disco is available each night and isuch better when the Russains kids club attends but a character visits every night to join in the fun. Brilliant holiday and always must see the sesamo parade and fiestaventura parade before Coming home love it.

I booked this trip to Barcelona and Port Aventura for our honeymoon. I paid for a 4 star hotel and instead of this, the hotel didn't meet our expectations at all. A bad cigaret smell was the first thing that welcomed us in the room (1st floor). The smell was coming through the air condition system both in our bedroom and the toilet. This was a headache for the 3 days of our stay. Also, there was a notable amount of mold in various places in the bathroom. Last but not least, it didn't have the requirements for a 4 star hotel by not offering sleepers, shampoo, face towels, cosmetic products (e.g. shower cap, nail file, cotton swabs), neither a vanity mirror etc. Also the walls were not made from bricks...

Room Tip: rooms near the sandy pool are better

My boyfriend (20) and myself (19), travelled here for 7 days from 13th July - 20th July 2014.
Our first impressions of the Caribe were great - the hotel itself is AMAZING. It's very clean and fresh and the décor is spectacular. There are many pools with plenty of choice and they are all very clean, there is also plenty of sunbeds and we never had a problem at any time of day getting 2 sunbeds!! The rooms themselves are very basic, with a TV with only 1 English channel, the walls are also very very thin and we could hear next door having showers and upstairs walking around ALL day and ALL night, so definitely go for a top floor room if you have the choice. The only disappointment was the fact that we paid for a queen sized room and had two single beds pushed together and kept falling through the hole!! However, there is so much to do, you probably won't be in the hotel very often! The only other issue with the hotel was the entertainment, there was very little at all and what there was, was for children only - however we had friends staying in the el paso and they too did not have entertainment, we concluded that there was so much to do in PortAdventura in the evenings - you did not need any at the hotel really!!!
The food was of good standard with something different every night and plenty of choice for children - it was just the price of the drinks that were disappointing, you can find yourself paying 3 euros for a small coke, however the prices all around Salou are also very expensive so you can't blame the hotel. You had to choose a breakfast slot for everyday at the beginning of the week which was a nuisance and we actually ended up going to breakfast twice the whole week as we couldn't get ready and get down there for a 15 minute slot.
The location of the hotel is great, you are in a 15 minute walking distance to PortAdventura, although the walk is uphill BUT there is a small, free train right outside the hotel that comes every 5 minutes there and back which is great!! It is about a 10 minute walk to the top part of the town which is great but if you want to go to the beach or further down into town it is about a half an hours walk. It only costs about 6 euro for a taxi each way or you can hire bicycles for a very cheap price at a place called 'drac beach' which is one of the first shops you come to in Salou town from the hotel. We also used this company to go quadbiking in the mountains - 5 hours for 135 euros, best experience of our lives, would highly recommend it!!!!
Over all - we had the best holiday we have ever had here in Salou and we are booking straight up to come next year, we are just aware of the best ways to do things now and can request a room in which we will hear less noise and with a proper bed! I would recommend this hotel for both families with young children, or young, adventure seeking couples, like ourselves as there is so much to do and you can lay by the pool catching a tan with a cocktail all day or you can go adventure seeking in the mountains which are very close or make use of the theme park every day! Portadventura is something I would 100% recommend doing, you will have a great time!!!!

Room Tip: Would recommend top floor rooms as it will help eliminate all the noise from feet upstairs!!

just got back from 11 nights at hotel caribe we had great rooms a great size and interconnecting doors for our children next door.Great variety of food in the restaurant and brilliant theme night buffets we had a mexican night while we were there.A few down sides to our trip check in was a nightmare 1 hour standing in line to check in! rooms not ready until 3 so take swimwear in hand luggage and get changed, and do not go back to check in to get your room keys go to guest services line much quicker. Not many hangers in your room for clothes we lived out of suitcases and i had won of my dresses taken from my room reported this but what can you do they said they wood look into it not holding my breath so from then i we locked the cases every time we got something out which put a dampener on the holiday. The road train that takes you to the park is great but don't bother being British and polite and waiting in line no one else does they push in leap on so do the same or you wont get a seat.We were told 90% of Spanish smoke, in the park it was awful smoking everywhere even in the lines for the rides if you smoke great if you don't its not good especially with children in tow. We had beautiful weather lots of laughs PortaVentura was great but avoid the day if possible if you can hop in and out you are better off going at night after 8.00 much less ques and people. On the whole a good holiday.

went to this hotel in june and had a fabulous holiday Ive read some of the negative reviews and it does put u off a bit ,but I went with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were lovely and clean with maid service every day .The food was really good and a cut above the food we,ve had in other hotels..We had free park tickets which we used every day and would have worked out pretty expensive if we had to buy them The theme park is amazing as is the water park which you have to pay for but worth a visit. The hotel itself is really lovely however there area few small things like there,s always a queue in reception and they do play the same cd every day but they re such little things that I wouldn't let it spoil my holiday .Another little piece of information if you go to the magic show in the wild west part of the theme park adults have to buy a drink even if its only water so in theory your paying to watch it ,but still worth a look. All things considered if your thinking of going here and have read some bad things about it please give it a try this was one of the best holidays we,ve had in several years, if you like theme parks its a dream come true and even if you don t theres something for everyone
