“Great family holiday.”
Reviewed 6 June 2014 via mobile

Just returned from our week stay from 30th May to 6th June at hotel el paso. Overall, we all had a fabulous time.
Check in - a hotel worker collected our luggage for us and took it to our room when it became available. It took us about 45 mins to get checked in, but to be fair a bus load of people had
just arrived. Newbie travellers - watch out for the extra tax they surprise you with on arrival. For us it was €12 for 2 adults. This was our first trip and didn't know about this tax. We had a few hours to kill before we got our room, but we went to the pool instead. Kids loved it. The water is cold though but you get used to it quite quickly. The food at the pool side was ok, a little bit basic but hey Ho.
Room - spacious with a balcony. They provided a cot for our 1 year old and made the beds daily. We found it a bit cold at nights but there are fleecy blankets in the cupboard. We didn't need the air con. We were luckily at the more quieter end of the hotel, but could still hear the entertainment quite loudly despite being the furthest away. Luckily the girls slept through it.
Food - if you are fussy, then you may find yourself sticking to the same food every day for a week like my husband! However if you are like me and are a bit more open minded then it wouldn't be an issue. The food was ok, some of it was a bit basic but a lot of it was freshly made. The salad bar was lovely and desserts were nice too. But often the same foods would be made daily and if you are anything like my husband there is only so much burgers and chips you can take! There was always plenty of food and you could have as many drinks as you wanted. There is a Mexican restaurant at the hotel that you need to book for. We tried it 1 night. It was uncomfortably hot and we couldn't get a reservation until 9pm. We had several different waiters and my brother in law waited 25 mins for a drink before giving up and going up himself to the bar to get it. Our starters weren't that great but the bbq ribs was nice and the brownie pudding.
With our all inclusive deal there were a few places at the portaventura park that you could eat for free. We went to bora bora and had a lovely meal in there so would recommend them. There is also a place in the water park you can eat but we didn't know until it was too late!!
Drinks - there is a bar at the pool side selling slush puppies, soft drinks, ice cream and other alcoholic drinks. There wasn't any fresh juice (unless I missed it) and my kids won't drink fizzy juice. So slush puppies it was. The staff were always friendly and you could go up as often as you wanted. There is also a bar at the stage that sells cocktails in the evenings. It was nice to sit here while the kids ran through the maze. There was also face painting in the reception at times where my eldest had her face or arm painted free of charge. The characters would also come into this area and my eldest had quite a few pics taken with them!

Maintenance - the hotel was always well maintained, the pool was clean, the gardens were beautiful. A very attractive hotel. The only constructive criticism I can think of it that our area surrounding our room could have done with lighting. With being out in the bright sun it was always difficult to see the slot for the card key.

Theme park - we spent a few days here. We had a great time. My youngest wasn't able to go on a lot but my eldest who is 4 could go on a few things. There was a whole section we missed out as well for the kids which we are gutted about but for kids 4 and over there are a few things to do in each section. Obviously there is plenty for the adults! Highly recommend getting the express passes at reception. We saved ourselves hours of queuing time by doing this and getting more out of our day. We got a week pass but should have just got one for the days we were going. Unless you are planning on going at least 4 times a week then I recommend you just get for the days you want.

Water Park - great fun! Something for all the family. But our kids preferred just to walk around the pool with the pirate ship than go on the rides. Again the water is cold but you get used to it. We had fun going down the rapids and going through the lazy river.

Check out - very simple although we are quite annoyed about missing our last breakfast that we paid for as our bus was meant to collect us at 8.05am and the place only opens at 8 am for breakfast. So be aware of that.

Overall had a fantastic holiday. Would go again. Do I think we got our money's worth? To be honest I don't think so but would still give the hotel el paso a strong 8 out of 10.

I went to the Hotel El Paso Friday 23rd May to Friday 30th May 2014. We had a great time and the hotel had everything we could have asked for. Our party was 4 adults and 3 children and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had a double room with a bunk bed and a double room with a pull out sofa bed. Both rooms were large, spacious and clean, every day the cleaners came in to clean the room and it was always spotless.
The food at the hotel was typical all inclusive food but it was always tasty and lots of choice with a theme 4 nights out of the 7 while we were there. The main buffet restaurant, you got a slot for breakfast through reception but for the evening meal it was open 6.30 till 9.30 (or 10.30 can't remember) so no assigned slot but we never had to queue to get into the restaurant, there was never a problem to get a table for 7, and the max we queued for the main hot food section of the buffet was about 5 minutes one night which wasn't a long time at all. The food around the pool (Bar Club Maya) was great with lots of choice throughout the day, we had a couple of picky eaters in our party and they found lots of things that they could eat. You also could have ice creams (even proper scooped ice cream in wafer cones!) from another bar by the pool. The bars had a good selection of drinks and were more than happy to make kids cocktails!
The hotel grounds was very well managed and presented well, good theme running through the hotel. The pools were massive and the kids loved the children's pool with the pirate ship and water cannons.
The entertainment on the evening started at 9.15 pm with the mini disco which the kids loved and the lady who ran it was lovely and full of energy. There was also some other entertainment on afterwards like flamenco dancers, puppet show, sesame street etc which were entertaining. The only thing I would say it was lacking was that there wasn't a lot of entertainment during the day e.g. volleyball, water polo, aerobics etc but maybe during the summer they do that and not in May but it wasn't a major problem as there was still plenty to do.
The theme park and water park were amazing, plenty of rides and slides that everyone could go on (very strict about height restrictions though so be prepared to be turned away on some of the rides if you have children). With staying at the El Paso we got all inclusive in 3 restaurants in the theme park and we hadn't been told but found out by chance that you can get an all inclusive meal in the water park too which we did. Lovely 3 course meal and a drink, we went to Bora Bora and Jeremiahs in the theme park and the restaurant in the water park.
The staff at the hotel were lovely, very friendly and helpful and the kids loved the fact that Woody woodpecker, Winnie woodpecker, Elmo and Zoe wandered around the hotel during the day so they could have pictures and cuddles.
Good location as it's a 5 minute walk to the theme park and water park, 15 minute walk into Salou or you can get the train which runs every 15 minutes around Salou and the surrounding areas (for a cost but the kids loved it)

Room Tip: Rooms around the pool and grounds will be quieter on an evening as the ones in the main building ove...

This holiday was excellent value for money, the food was very very good lots of choice and plenty for the kids to choose from. Okay the rooms were not four star i would say three star (there was no fridge in the room) which was a nuisance but you can manage as there are water coolers everywhere. We used to fill a drinks cup up before bed and take back to the room. The kids entertainer Elaina was the best one that we have seen her energy and enthusiasm was awesome. Only complaint was that the entertainment started a bit late for the younger children 21.15 and finished at 22.00, at which point my boy was dragging his feet after being in the park all day!! The pool is the best one ive seen it was huge (very cold) once your in though it was fine, we stayed in block 4 which was overlooking the pool and a lot quieter than the main hotel where the entertainment and bar was. Portaventura park was excellent along with the water park there was so much to do that we could have easily have stayed for 2 weeks, the shows in the park were brilliant, we bought the express passes from the hotel as the last week we stayed was half term and was busy (long waits for rides) this was excellent value as we could just hop straight on the rides. They are very strict with the height restrictions at the main park. All in all we will be coming back again in a few years once my legs have stopped aching after all the walking!!!!! brilliant

Room Tip: For more peace and quiet choose rooms nearer to the swimming pool.

My family and I have just returned from a 4 nights trip to this hotel. We had an amazing time and the hotel was everything we wanted it to be. The all inclusive package got us our food, drinks (including alcohol), entry into Portadventura park, the water park and food in these parks as well. This hotel is very family orientated and evening entertainment reflects this. The rooms were clean and basic though a kettle and a fridge would have been ideal. There's a safe included in the room which is free and wi-fi.
The queues for the buffets were fine, didn't have to wait any more than 5 mins. There was enough sunbeds without having to get up really early to reserve them.
We had to check out of our room by 11am, but our coach was picking us up at 5pm, and the hotel offers a courtesy room for you to get showered and freshen up after a day at the pool.
All the staff were really polite and very helpful.
As mentioned above, we highly recommend this hotel and we are considering going back next year.

We have just returned from 5 days at El Paso, All inclusive.
There was a problem with the room, but we were moved straight away. The rooms are a little tired and is not up to 4* by my standards. But overall great location, happy and helpful staff, enjoyed the food, pool was great and the short walk (or tram) to the theme park was the icing on the cake. Would recommend to anyone wishing to go for the theme park. I wonder if we were a little early in the season as a lot of things advertised is only available in July & August.

Room Tip: If you want wifi it is best to stay in the main block.

This hotel is 15mins from airport 5mins walk from theme park and water park and if you have any energy left a very pleasant 25min stroll into Salou it's self.
Group of 14 went two weeks ago 3-47 and we had a ball. Weather was a bit on and off but had it's benefits as going early in the year queue's were 20mins tops (would not like to go in peak season waiting 2 hours for a ride is no holiday)
Hotel it's self was fine we enjoyed would recommend to any family with kids

We went with a 7 year old and 4 year old and I would say this hotel is perfect for young ones but may not suit teenagers. We got a room in the main building opposite the evening stage and was dreading the noise but actually we were either at the mini disco there (9.15pm) or fell asleep through the noise. Rooms are relatively basic but the hotel is kept really clean most of the time although one lift appeared to have blood in it for several days. Food is actually really good for mass catering- breakfast is same everyday with the usual but there was always a lot of choice although my two went for bolognese pasta most days!! My son loves fruit and there was plenty available. There is the usual burger hot dog and chips at nearly every meal but they did other things like salads, pork, steak, fish etc. We went to the El Coyote restaurant twice and loved it- they do things like burrito, chilli, ribs etc. drinks wise I was really impressed with the quality of wine- ice cream was strawberry, vanilla and chocolate but if you wanted Calippo, Magnum or Carte D'or then you paid for these. We brought Sesame Street soft toys from the shop which were quite expensive (€23) but after one day and having got back to the UK it fell apart. The biggest tip I would offer is the land trains as it takes a while to get used to. There are 2 trains which go to the Portaventura hotels (blue/yellow one and one marked Hotel Caribe)- this takes you into the park and back- whilst the park entrance is super close we found this ideal for tired little feet. This train does not go to Salou- the Salou trains are marked L1, L2 and L3- each one does a slightly different route round Salou but all go to Portaventura- not all stopped at our hotel so we walked to the park entrance and got them from there- they were €3 for adults and €1.50 for kids - you may find it cheaper to get a taxi when there are more than 4 of you but we found it a great experience particularly for our son- I heard others complain that there's not enough to do at the hotel but their reply was that you have all the entertainment you need in the park and I would tend to agree- the only negative experience was the choice of restaurants to eat all inclusive in the park- we tried Bora Bora but it was total chaos- La Cantina was closed the whole time we were there and we never tried Jeremiah's - we ended up either nipping back to the hotel to eat or buying a sandwich- sandwich choices are limited to ham, cheese or Spanish omelette!!! The staff at the hotel were efficient and professional but not friendly- if you've ever been to Majorca or Menorca you will have experienced the effort locals make with children and the importance they place on families- I expected it to be the same here and it wasn't- staff responded to any questions you asked but friendliness was totally non existent- the pool area was amazing and is one of the best assets of the hotel- it was a beautiful pool- I would recommend this hotel for access to the park and go prepared to use the hotel as a base rather than an entertainment complex for kids- (there is a Catalan tourist tax which most of us weren't aware of - you only pay for adults and when we went it was €12.60 for the 2 of us)
