“Great family holiday”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

We are coming to the end if of a 1 week stay. It has been fantastic value for money with an all inclusive stay with unlimited access to the theme park as well.

Food- good choice most days in the restaurant. Early or late dining avoids the queues. You choose a time for breakfast which does help the queues. You can also book an early cold breakfast if you have an early departure from 6.30 am. Only tried snack bar once but that was good too, especially if the kids want burgers, nuggets, chips etc. ice cream from snack bar very nice. Also serves slush puppy's for kids. Took advantage of the all inclusive option to eat at 3 designated self service restaurants in the park. Food was very good at Jeremiah's in the far west.

Pool- always plenty of sun beds whenever we chose to sit there. There are some people who reserve beds and then disappear for hours but this did not affect the availability to sit there if you wanted. Pool was cold but the weather wasn't great and others said that the pool was much warmer the previous week. Jacuzzi nice but also cold. Lifeguards in attendance when pool open. The fake sand feels more like grit under bare feet which spreads around the pool side.

Reception- check in took about 30 mins but they had lots of info to give and room was ready for us which was good. Other trips to reception were much quicker and the staff very friendly and happy to help.

Rooms-queen size bed and fold out single bed for 2 adults and a child. Free TV but most channels in Spanish. Not a problem to us as we didn't come on holiday to watch TV. Plenty of cupboard space but only 4 hangers. Free safe. Air conditioning good. Small balcony- not really big enough to sit on. Hotel requests that clothes or towels are not hung on balcony but in bathroom on airer. However, most people hanging clothes out as airer did not get clothes dry. Laundry service offered at a cost but we did not use this. Hair dryer in bathroom. We were in Jaguar block which was very central. Maid service daily for cleaning and clean towels. Bedding changed mid stay.

Theme park-go early am or late pm to avoid the queues. Be aware that the board listing the queue times is not always accurate. Take advantage of dining at all inclusive restaurants in the park if you don't want to return to hotel in the day. There was some queue jumping and the fast pass system made the normal queues ridiculously long for some rides. Check ride heights before you queue, as I saw some very disappointed kids queuing for rides in sesame land who were then told that they couldn't go on when they got to the front. There is a tram that goes to the park gates but we never bothered using it as it was only a 5 minute walk.

Free wifi throughout hotel and parks. Free bus to salou 10am, 11 am and 12 noon. Returns at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm. It's about a 20 minute walk into town from the hotel if not. We caught the bus down and walked back.

Overall- a good holiday. Plenty to do. Good value. Hit the parks early am (opens at 10) or after 8pm to avoid the queues. Visit the restaurants early or late to avoid queues. If you want to go on the main rides, consider a fast pass to avoid queues in the day. Take comfortable flat shoes!

We would definitely return again.

Room Tip: Jaguar block is central. Opposite the pool and very near to the restaurants, bars and reception. Can...

Coming to the end of our ten day holiday here and have had an ok time which is not really ideal for an almost £5000 holiday.

Food is ok but incredibly repetitive and consists of mainly pasta, pizza and chips. Many of the other choices are also breaded - not good if, like me, you are gluten intollerant. It took a lot of complaining and the intervention of our rep to get them to provide gluten free food and even then it is very limited.

Rooms are clean but shabby and very basic. We are two adults and a 15 year old sharing a room with one double bed and a folding bed which has been placed in front of the balcony doors so we can't use the balcony. It feels more like a two person room into which they've squeezed another bed. Bed linen has not been changed at all during our ten nights
and the walls are marked and stained and lots of mold on the tools in the bathroom.

We haven't had a terrible time here, it's been ok but bearing in mind the cost of the holiday I expected more than just ok. Two years ago, four of us went to Florida for 14 nights full board and stayed in a Disney hotel for not much more than it has cost us to come here and there is just no comparison.

Definitely not a four star hotel. Expect two star, possibly three and you won't be disappointed.

First Choice reps were excellent as were the restaurant staff who really tried to accommodate my dietary requirements. We loved Generation Forever show in the park too. This is a must see.

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of the school summer holidays this year. We arrived at 7.30pm so didnt have any wait at all for reception check in, although due to the amount of information we were given i can understand why at busy times this takes a while. Before we had arrived we had emailed the hotel asking for a family room with bunk beds, not the sofa bed so we were hoping this was the case.

When we went up to our room which was in the main reception building on the 5th floor (two lifts but they tend to not rush!) and our room was just as we requested. The rooms are lovely, tiled floor which was nice and cool on super hot days and spotless. The shower was AMAZING!! plenty of room, free security safe and a small balcony. Beds where super comfy!!!!

Few things i wont go into to much as people have mentioned - yes you have to pick your breakfast time, although we didnt use it to much , twice i think as we opted for a lay in bed and use the pool bar for a snack instead. Lunch was also at the pool bar. Ok so yes they had the usual nuggets, chips etc but also a variation of pork, chicken, salads and the burgers were lovely if you beefed them out a bit with some salad . Evening meals were in the main restaurant although it got VERY busy. People seemed to queue right next to the chips/nuggets/pizza side and the other side was empty which had the more interesting food so eventually when you have been here a day or so you will work this out and just go straight to the other side instead of queueing for fifteen minutes just to walk straight past the chips!! (also people seemed to forger there is a small buffet just inside the first door which also has this there plus some extra bits). What did seem rather pointless was having to wait at the door to be shown to a seat. This caused huge queues going out of the door and a bit of confusion at the entrance.

You csn book the ElCoyote restaurant for two meals but book this ASAP. We didnt and almost missed out . It isnt open sundays or mondays. Is def worth a visit even though the menu is somewhat limited but its a nice change.

BARS - they seriously need more of these and maybe a small bar where kids can get their juice/pop etc in a self service manner. Huge queues for drinks. Also only the one bar open during the day at the pool which means even if you wanted to just chill in reception are which is huge and inviting you had to go wait in the pool bar first then walk back. No water fountains or drinks available after 11.30pm.

I have seen a lot of posts complaining about flies...tbh we never had an issue....i never had a problem with bugs at all on this holiday.

FIRST AID - this is my bug bear with this place. My daughter on an evening was inthe top bar with us and she banged her toe, pulled off her toe nail and was bleeding. We had to go to reception, then to be told they didnt have first aid and was given a plaster!!! nothing to clean it with, no help. I said did they not have a first aid station etc? they said no i either had to walk her all the way round to the pool to they would get us a taxi up to the theme park ?! this seemed ridiculous and they should at least have radioed the first aid at the pool to come help but instead we had to walk my daughter who was still bleeding and in pain all the way up to the pool, up the two flights of steps and to the lifeguard station.

This, albeit a bit of a big issue to me, was really the only issue i had here.

The staff, mainly, were helpful and the place is lovely. Entertainment on an evening was fine, no problems with it although we tended to go up to the park n a night because it was so much quieter.

The park is just a two minute if that journey on a small train that takes you right to the gates. Very busy but as ive said best to go on an evening as its cooler, more pleasant and not as big queues...oh and get the fast pass!!!!

TV - people complaining about the tv being in spanish....if you look on the remote...on the bottom row there is a button with two speech bubbles...press this button and it changes it to english!!!!!

So all in all a very nice hotel, am sure if given the chance we would return or maybe try out one of the other themed hotels nearby.

I went to hotel El Paso in July 2014 with my mum and my 3 year old brother ( I am age 11). The hotel was Mexican themed. The food was so nice and had many choices! Burgers hotdogs chips and ice creams. The ice creams were delicious. The pools were hugeeeeee and surprisingly they were warm! Even my brother was jumping in! The shows at night were really fun with lots of dancing and singing involved however it was mainly for younger kids - not much for adults-. The rooms were very clean! We had a double bed and a single bed which were both very comfy. The hotel was very very close to port aventura which was awesome! We went nearlly everyday( we had unlimited passes there) loads of rides were there for young and older people! The best roller coasters are dragon khan and shambhalla! The ques weren't too bad and went down quite quick! Also next door they had the water park which was Amzing! There were no major ques and the slides were the best! I went in all of them! We went there twice and didn't get bored! We read a lot of reviews saying that younger people aren't aloud on a lot of rides at portaventura! My brother is 1m so we were scared however we found alot if rides he could go on so I wouldn't worry! The shows at portaventure were so good! The park is open til midnight we found it was better going in the evening ( less ques and a lot cooler) So I highly recommend going to this hotel it was the best holiday ever! I would 100% go back!

after reading some of the reviews on here before I was slightly nervous, but I had no need to worry, hotel was fantastic, the queue at check in was 5 min, our room wasn't ready till 3 which was a little pain as we had no sun cream, but I was aware this could happen so took some swimwear in my hand luggage, rooms are very clean and just what we needed! the pool was lovely, lifeguard's very good, and we never had a problem finding a sunbed, didn't matter what time or day! I thought the food was very good, always hot never cold!!!! good choice, and would recommend booking in the restaurant there too! the bars at night was fab, again I never really queued for a drink! so over all I was impressed with the hotel, its a 4 star in my eyes anyway, if there is one problem I would have to say the flies! there is loads of them, and really annoying, but that's not the hotels fault as they are always cleaning and sweeping. To the theme park now, we went there every day, fantastic! 5 min from hotel, all the shows brilliant, but you need to buy the express pass before as the queues was 2 hrs. for some rides, with the pass you walk straight on, one thing that really annoyed me though was the amount of people pushing in the queues and queue jumping!!!! after 2 hrs. queuing and someone hops over the rope its not fair and nothing got done about it. we travelled 8th Aug. 2014 for one week! no kids I was the youngest at 26, still would recommended this hotel whatever age! I will come back hopefully within the next few years and please don't change anything el paso as I think everything was ok.

Room Tip: we was in block jaguar! 2115, fab as it was centre, so close to everything.

This hotel is really good in terms of the location, the rooms and the restaurant food. But it is very busy and you tend to have to queue for all meals, drinks, check in & reception.

On arrival we probably stood for 30/45 mins to check in. That said they do have a lot to explain about the hotel and services. We had booked a family room for 4 people but they had made a mistake and gave us 2 rooms instead. This was not an issue for us as with girls at 27, 19 & 11, I was grateful that two of them went in another room and we were not fighting for the bathroom! However another couple with smaller children had the same issue and that was not acceptable.

The rooms were large with a huge queen sized bed and a single bed in each. Bathroom had a hairdryer and shower over bath. The shower was so powerful I didnt want to get out. Shampoo and showergel were provided although we preferred our own. TV in room and a safe that you didnt have to pay extra for.

On arrival you have to select a time you want breakfast each day. This can be a bit restricting but it does avoid massive queues. They could ideally do with 2 self service restaurants on the site as evening meal it was always busy and the queue for the main self service hot food area was massive most nights. The food was good though, loads of choice and always fresh and replaced regular. Lunch time you can eat in the main restaurant or at the pool side bar where they did burgers, chips, fruit, toasties etc.

The mexican restaurant where you get 2 free visits on a 1 week stay is very good although limited menu but its worth going at least once.

Two pool side bars for your all inc drinks, most things there although some brands were at extra cost. Slush for kids included though which was a bonus. Full sized glasses as well.

Pool was good, seperate kids pool with boat, jacuzzi pool and large main pool which I think may have been heated as it was never that breath take away cold. However be prepared to get up at 7am to reserve a sunbed as you have no chance otherwise!!!

Entertainment on a night was the main downside of this hotel - its rubbish!!! Kids disco everynight with characters which was great for younger kids but after that it was dire. Watched a puppet show one night and could not beleive that they were getting paid to put that on. Heard a singer one evening and I felt sorry for them and the audience.

However, the best time to go to the theme park is at night so we tended to lie by the pool all day then go up to the park at night. its a 5 min walk or there is a train if you prefer.

Visit Costa caribe if you get chance. This water park is extra but you get a discount if you buy tickets from reception.

Another plus is that you can eat in both Port Aventura and Costa Caribe for free if you are staying at the hotel.

All in all it was a good holiday with just a few issues but compensated for by the staff and the location and the food.

Prior to our trip I had read a mixture of reviews about this hotel. I must disagree with some of them. The hotel reception was very good. We were greeted in a very friendly manner and check in was quick and easy. I would have said excellent for reception but for one receptionist who was not very helpful when I needed information about our pick up time upon departure.
The highlight of the hotel must be the children's entertainment team; two young ladies who, not only ensured my grandson's enjoyment of the evening disco, but made it their business to learn his name and provide him with toys to play with in the pool area. They made every child feel special.
The whole hotel is child led. The evening entertainment usually began with face painting or "tattoos" and then a children's disco followed by a child friendly show. The pool area is tightly supervised by 5 or 6 lifeguards. For safety reasons T shirts are not allowed in the pool and no ice creams or other foods are allowed in the pool or on the sides of the pool. These must all be consumed poolside in the buffet area or on sun loungers.
The food was good and plentiful. Breakfast was always the same but plenty of choice offered. Lots of meat and fish variations were prepared but vegetarians had fewer options.
The hotel was very clean and towels were changed daily. Our room was made up daily. Our only complaint was the lack of hanging space; 5 hangers for four people for a week! My advice would be to take some coat-hangers and use the coat hooks in the room to hang clothes. We had to drape our dresses across the table!
Another piece of advice would be to pack a swimsuit and towel in hand luggage if you are landing early. We arrived at 11.00 to be told that our room would not be ready until 3.00p.m. (As it happens it was ready by 1.30p.m. ) But it was very hot to be hanging around in travelling clothes.
There is so much to do in the area. The theme park is fantastic and especially so as we didn't have to pay or queue for tickets as we were residents of Hotel El Paso. A regular shuttle bus transports visitors the very short distance to the park although it is easily walkable. The aqua park was excellent, again very strict codes of behaviour. This involves an extra charge, but reduced prices from the hotel. We went into Salou one day and to Cambrils on another. Both different but very enjoyable trips. We were never short of places to go or things to do.
Our grandson was able to enjoy many rides in the park because he is over 110cm. Some he was not allowed to enjoy because he is under 120cm. I would consider your child's height before you go to the theme park. Many rides are suitable for very young children but these are limited.

Room Tip: Some floor level rooms are dark because of trees and greenery outside.
