“Best apartaments, good place”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

We were here for new year's eve. During winter Salou is cheap. The position is not on the seaside but 5 minutes walk. It's the same from the trainstation. The apartaments are big (huge), beautiful with all the comforts (2 conditioners, LCD television, Hi-fi for music, very good toilet). All is very clean, and for new year's eve the owner left a bootle of wine in our living room. Very kind.

We stayed here for the May half term week (24-31st 2014) and thought the place was quite nice. My parents are members of RCI and booked this as we know Salou is very family friendly and we have a 14 month old girl.

Check-in was very easy. We weren't aware of all the extra charges (it does mention them in the paperwork tho) when we got there so they were a bit of a shock (90euros for 4 adults & 1 toddler plus 20 euros for the safety deposit box). We had a 3 bed room which was a really nice size for us. Open plan living room with 3 bedrooms and bathroom next door. Kitchen had most things you would expect with exception of a kettle (we took our own) and an oven (as advertised on RCI's website). Other than that it was nice layout and had enough space for the bits and pieces you are likely to buy.
We had a small tv mounted on the wall but it only had BBC world news on so we didn't watch much. We took a portable DVD player which we were able to connect and watch a few DVDs and some peppa pig!!
We had one double room and two twin bedrooms. All the rooms had storage space and two had very large fitted cupboards. The balcony was lovely and big. We had a road side apartment and had no noise issues what so ever. They seem to have fited AC units which is linked to the double bedroom and living area recently. Never used it as it wasn't warm enough.

The apartment is approx a 10 min walk to the beach and about 15-20 mins to the main tourist area of Salou. There are plenty of shops and restaurants within a 5 min walk but the majority are in the centre of town with all the tourist hotels.

Only downside was the fact the pool was closed whilst we were there as most days the weather was warm enough.

Overall we would go back as we enjoyed our holiday and would recommend this place if you are looking for a quiter holiday away from the tourist area.

Room Tip: We stayed on Floor 5, Room 4

I've been with Interval International for years and have enjoyed exceptional quality holidays with them. However, I would advise fellow owners not to exchange for this. It offers nothing near the quality you would expect. Salou is a town full of nasty, unattractive 6 storey concrete block apartments and it goes on for as far as the eye can see. This 'hotel' is a set of apartments on top of dingy, run-down shops. I too was unable to use the pool, or even use the sunloungers to sit outside. Again, as previously noted by other reviewers, the kitchen set-up is inadequate for international travellers. We paid our 37 euros for electricity and local tax but were unable to watch TV on the overcast days as they showed no British channels. It had no DVD player either so we were stuck with watching on the computer. The kitchen has no oven or grill, so those lovely-looking pizzas at the store had to stay there. The microwave is dangerously high, my friend narrowly missed a scalding from her pasta sauce! The bedroom and storage space is fine, but the sofa-bed is the most appallingly uncomfortable thing I have ever had the displeasure of trying to sleep on. The Citadines bed-settees (in Barcelona) are perfect, this thing, no matter how many blankets you put under it, has all the comfort of a concrete slab. Add to that, the gurgling fridge and the disco-like green flashing smoke detector and you had plenty of time to draft miserable reviews. Our balcony did get the sun, but using it to dry clothes wasn't good as the clothes rack was on the shadowy side, so you waited two days for your clothes. In the living room, we also had the 'cabinet of mystery', a glass fronted cabinet with no rack or shelves in it. It meant that you couldn't put the bed at that end of the room and thereby avoid flashing green light. On the plus side, we were given washing up liquid, washing liquid for the washing machine which is in the bathroom and serves as your table-top. There was also a bottle of water and a pack of UHT milk in the fridge. The toiletries were nice-smelling too. The place was clean and the staff knowledgeable and pleasant. If you have no choice but to stay here then know that there is a public swimming pool 10 minutes walk away. This will cost you 5.5 euros plus 2 euros for a compulsory swimming hat. The beach is a good 20 minutes walk through the town which consists of eateries and pound shops. There is a McDonalds and Burger King for those not brave enough to try the local stuff. At the beach you will be charged 4 euros for a sun-lounger and 7 euros for a parasol, so bear this in mind if you're going down there each day. Again, if you're with Interval International and exchanging, the info in the book is wrong. Barcelona is not the nearest airport, Reus is. We foolishly hired a car to drive around the area. Had we known this, we would have used the Plana coaches which are plentiful and reasonable in cost. Bear in mind the toll roads too which are usually about 5 euros. If you want to park under the hotel, you will be charged 50 euros for the week. You end up driving round trying to find parking spaces, not at all what you want on holiday. All in all, there are proper hotels nearer to the beach and luxury complexes like Estival if that is really what you're coming to Salou for.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 2nd floor, room 7 which got the midday to evening sun, but it does face the bloc...

Dear guest,

On behalf of the whole team, I would like to thank you for the time you spent in sharing your experience in regard to your stay in Ona Jardines Paraisol, which I have noted with regret has not been to your complete liking.
On the other hand, electrical energy expenses are a requirement that only the "Central Exchange" establishes for its customers. We at reception make only the payment that you stipulate in your booking confirmation.
Needless to say, our Aparthotel Ona Jardines Paraisol is exactly a 10 minute walk from the golden sands of Salou beach. One of its strong points, and a reason for its selection by our guests, is its privileged position. It is located in the centre of Salou, where our customers can find shops and restaurants.

Kindest regards,

We stayed here on a timeshare exchange in May 2014. Arrived very early on a Saturday and dismayed to find they hadn't got us on their list for arrivals that day, but after some investigation found us and allocated us a room, which was very clean and adequate, but the balcony was useless as it got no sun at any time of the day. Not able to use the Pool until June (which we did know beforehand, but couldn't see the logic as it was warm enough to sit outside). Had to pay for WiFi, which I thought was a bit unnecessary as we had already paid 30 Euros for electricity for the week. The complex appears to be some residential and some holiday lets and it did get quite noisy late at night. No Kettle which is a bit on the primitive side (surely Spanish people use Kettles ! ). Location wise it was in a nice area and close to 2 or 3 Supermarkets, several bars and eateries. Quite a walk from the main part of Salou. All in all a pleasant week in a very nice resort, but probably wouldn't chose to stay here again.

Room Tip: Avoid Building II, the balconies get little or no sun

We stayed here on a timeshare exchange basis. When we arrived we had just discovered that my wife's purse had been lifted by low life pickpockets at Sants station in Barcelona - this left us with problems as to what to report and to whom. I had no cash euros with me largely because of the pickpocketing - barely enough to pay a taxi bill. The hotel management were brilliant - they let me use the safety deposit box without the usual deposit so that we could keep remaining cash, cards etc secure immediately and also gave me free WiFi access so that I could track any unusual activity on our cards online immediately. They also gave me exact instructions to the local police station so that we could report the theft and get a crime reference number. The apartment was pleasant with a balcony that got sun most of the day even in March.
I agree with some other reviewers that a kettle would be great as would be a grill or toaster but otherwise the apartment was well equipped.
In March Salou has not yet come to life after the winter - there are only a few restaurants open. The bar next door does do good pizzas including a takeaway service. There are some small mini-markets in the area.
The journey time to Barcelona on the Regional Express trains is about 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 30. This means that Barcelona is too far away to be useful but Tarragona is not - although this is a working port and city the archaeological and historic remains are excellent if you like that sort of thing. Other options include the nearby resort of Cambrils.
If you are coming here by rail from Barcelona rather than Reus airport you can get a ticket from airport to Salou for the same price as Sants to Salou - this saves the fare from airport to Sants (4 euros 40 each way).

I spent a weekend here in early January - rented a 1-bed apartment, which was faultless and far larger than equivalent places I've rented in the past down the road in Vilafortuny (also more expensive but worth the difference).

As if the excellent balcony overlooking the pool wasn't good enough, I noticed a spiral staircase leading from the corner of the balcony and followed it up to reveal a huge, private rooftop terrace. My dinner companion for the night, the lovely Lydia, noted: "perfect for nude sunbathing". I wasn't going to argue with her (even if it was 10pm in January).

Highly recommended - don't arrive here and expect to speak English however (since it IS is Spain/Catalunya after all) but the delightful girl on reception spoke excellent French, which helped me.

Room Tip: 6th Floor is good for terraces

We stayed here for a week at the start of November 2013, first impressions was that it was very clean. Room needed a kettle, dangerous boiling water in a open pan, and a oven would be handy for Pizzas etc. Two nights we were awaken from the noise from the bar downstairs our room was directly above it. Another two nights we were awaken again with a spannish family banging doors and playing music this was at 03.00. On informing the reception in the morning she said that there were no others complaining and seemed not to care. There are lots of appartments in Salou that at the time of year you can get good deals a lot cheaper. Very clean city and good market on a Monday.
