Nice hotel, well equipped spacious rooms and a good restaurant with plenty of choice. Thing is we did not travel with our children (the youngest now being 21) so needless to say this is not the Hotel for a romantic stay so we made a monumental error of judgement staying here. Don't get me wrong this is a great place for families and the staff go out of their way to make sure the children are well entertained and fed. We incorrectly assumed when making the booking that children would be at school at the time of our holiday (mid June).
Fortunately we were able to use the pool facilities at the sister Hotel down the road otherwise we would have been demented.
Our room overlooked a relatively quiet road but the apartment block opposite had a group of about 20 local Spanish teenagers who kept us entertained with live music (guitars and cajon) which was much less entertaining from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
As a base for touring it is well positioned. Get the local bus to Tarragona it is a beautiful City. We booked the guided City tour with Thomson and although it was expensive it was well worth it.
The promenade at Salou is very pleasant for an evening stroll.
All in all a nice stay but dont make the costly mistake we made if you are travelling as a couple looking for a quiet relaxing break. Entirley our error, not a criticism of the Hotel.

Stayed at the Golden Avenida in June 2013 and had a brilliant family holiday. We travelled with friends so our party was my wife, me, our five year old son, our friends and their two young children. The rooms are a good size and very modern in design with small kitchenette and two bedrooms, each with a large TV.

The hotel restaurant is good and has a nice selection of food on offer at meal times. The service offered by the staff was friendly and efficient. The pool area was nice with a splash pool, toddler pool and kids playground around the main pool. We had to get out early though to secure beds. But the best thing which this hotel offers is the entertainment for families especially kids. The Thomson crew work their socks off all day to keep them happy, and when they are not having to do games they are busy talking to the guests ensuring they are happy etc.

Our kids loved the kids clubs and were always sad when their session finished, and if the kids were not in the evening sessions the entertainment in the main bar was for kids up to ten o'clock in any case. We loved it so much we are giving serious consideration to going back next year. Well done Thomson your team at this hotel couldn't possibly do anymore to put your customers first and are a real credit to you!

Room Tip: Try to get a pool view room

Stayed here 5th -12th October and what a fantastic hotel. Our room was pool facing as requested and got the sun all morning. I would think in high season it would be sun all day! Our room was huge with a separate bedroom with twin beds and the main room had a double bed and sofa. There was a kettle, microwave and fridge which was great! The staff here are the most helpful and friendly we have ever encountered and are a credit to this hotel. They helped us with bus times, train timetables and even the weather forecast when we went by train to Barcelona.
We stayed full board and though the food was nice it often wasnt very hot so we usually heated it up in the microwave. This would be my only slight downside but wouldnt stop me booking this hotel again. We travelled as a couple so didnt really stay in for the entertainment but the kids there all seemed to be having a fab time with the reps round the pool etc.

Room Tip: We had corner room 409 facing pool and it was great!

Just got back from 1 week (7/10 to 14/10) at the Golden Avenida Suites (Salou) what a great stay, food great, rooms superb, atmosphere very family orientated - just what we were after. But the real credit goes out to the hotel team from Sarah to Ana, the Thomson reps (Johnny, Shanice, EJ and others were A1 you all deserve a special mention, my son (4), hasn't stopped smiling and re-enacting the dances, treasured memories. If you are looking fir a relaxing yet entertaining break in the sun then Golden Avenida Suites, Salou should be a confident competitor.

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor facing pool(s)

Just back from an 11 day all inc holiday at the Golden Avenida and I have to say it was one of the cleanest and friendliest hotels we have stayed in. The Thomson staff really go out of their way to make your holiday enjoyable, a special mention to EJ, Jonny Rocks and Shaneece who did most of the shows and quizzes. They are a credit to Thomson. Receptionists and cleaners and Ana in the Restaurant very friendly. The bar waiters actually talk to you unlike other hotels we have stayed in in Spain, they are very friendly. The rooms have been refurbished and are kept very clean by the housekeepers, beds are firm but the rooms are very nice with good showers and hairdryers. Two TV's. We ate out towards the end of the holiday as food was getting a bit repetitive can recommend Uncle Sam's to the left by Burger King.
Quickest way to get to the shops is turn sharp left and first right out of the hotel in front of Jaime I hotel walk for about 3 mins and you are in the main shopping area, or just turn left out of hotel and walk down to burger king more shops here and if you turn right this leads you on to the main shops and beach.
You can purchase a bus ticket in the bus plana shop opposite the Red Lion it gives you 10 single trips for 14 euros and more than one person can use it and when it is running out you can top it up in the shop, you just get on the bus and swipe it in front of the driver and he gives you a ticket. The machine lets you know how many trips you have left, when going to the shops or markets beware of pickpockets, even on buses and trains.
The small tourist train is 3 euro a trip and worth doing at the beginning of your hol to get your bearings you can get it outside the Calypso hotel which is turn right out of the hotel and its the second big hotel towards the roundabout, the train stop and bus stop is outside the Union camping place opposite the Calypso or you could walk down to burger king turn left at the bus plana walk to outside the spar and get it there. There are four routes L1,L2,L3,LH these are shown above the funnel of the train all routes go into Portaventura theme park.
We would definitely return to this hotel, all inc stops at 11pm and anyone sitting outside drinking has to come into the bar at 12 so they do not disturb other guests which is a good idea as a few guests let their children run about making noise with no thought to other guests getting up for early flights.
This hotel and staff deserve the good reviews that are posted.

As good a hotel as you will find in Salou. Our 1 week stay in October 2013 was wonderful. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful (they organised a wheelchair for my wife's dad at 35 euros for the week). Our room was road facing (we hadn't registered any special request) but very accommodating for my wife and me and my father-in-law. Cleaned every day by cheerful housekeepers, we had twin beds in bedroom, permanent double bed in lounge, bathroom, small kitchen, balcony. Flat screen tv in both rooms, including Sky Sports!
Stayed half board, the food at breakfast and dinner was excellent choice and quality. Restaurant staff were brilliant, all worked so hard, always welcoming, smiling, and caring for everybody's needs. Chefs were cooking some of the choices in full view.
Bar staff just the same, especially Sarr, who seemed to know all guests within their first couple of days. Drinks and snack prices were very reasonable, there was even a Golden Hour at 20.30 when drinks were half price!
Overall, 5 star performance in a 4 star hotel. We would highly recommend this gem.

Room Tip: We would request high floor, pool facing>

Exactly like everyone says a fantastic hotel, we really enjoyed our stay at Golden Avenida :-)
The staff on reception are extremely helpful especially Sarah, she went the extra mile for me & my husband. Ana in the restaurant was always happy & cheerful every time we visited the restaurant. The food was fab, something for everyone plus there was always a lot of variety. As previously mentioned the hotel was aimed at families but myself & my husband enjoyed our stay, we would recommend it to both couples & families :-) the entertainment was good especially the Beijing acrobats! We had a room on the 6th floor which had amazing views of Portaventura, we were also lucky enough to get a 2 bed roomed apartment, which was very clean & comfortable. The showers are great, very powerful. Plus are room was cleaned daily which was great. The hotel is in a great location, only 5-10 minutes to the beach, shops & bars/restaurants. Will definitely be returning to Salou & the Golden Avenida.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 6th floor have fab views
