“ok, but very noisey”
Reviewed 15 August 2008

We have just come back from a week at this place with two children aged 5 and 3, we were situated on the fifth floor on the roadside which was extremely noisey all night and being on the fifth floor with the ballcony was worrying with two small children. the rooms are clean and basic and the cleaners do a good job, the reception staff and the thompson reps are helpful and polite. the food is average but we agree with the other reviews that it is not hot, luke warm although there is a good selection for breakfast and tea but the staff in the restaurant are so quick to remove your finished plates its uncomfortable so dont put your folk down to have a drink or your plate will be gone......... The shows for the kids are repetitive but the children liked them although our children are very shy the reps made no effort to try to get them to join in nor do I think they even spoke to them the whole week. The biggest laugh of all is the BRITS who queue up every morning at 9am to do an olympic run to the sunbeds its ridiculous got some great video clips...however if you cant get a sunbed tell reception and they will remove some towels.

The Avenida suites, offer exactly what you would expect, from a family friendly hotel.
The rooms are fairly basic ,clean but comfortable and with the added benefit of having a kitchen ,great if you are travelling with young children. The hotel is not to large and the reception staff are very friendly and helpfull.
All of the Thomson reps are great and the entertainment team made our stay at thisHotel brilliant!!
The location is good, close to beach, shops, bars and eats.
The nice things about this aparthotel are the lovely swimming pool, the shop which is very handy, the snack bar which is good value, all the extra things such as playstation and games ,the family focused activities, the kids clubs and the lovely food which is perfectly edible and plentifull (some people just cant be pleased !!)
The only negative thing i can mention is the lack of sunbeds and the fact that if you dont get down to the pool by 8.30,youve no chance !!!
But all that said, I would recommend this hotel to those wanting a great family hotel where kids are contented and parents get a chance to relax .....that is only if you were lucky enough to get a sunbed of course!!!!

We stayed at this hotel for first 2 weeks of July. Had booked Autumn last year. We requested 2 pool view rooms on 3rd floor and we got exactly that. Rooms of good standard, other reports said rooms were dirty or beds uncomfortable. We had no concerns about cleanliness of room or beds. Would not have cooked in the kitchen, only prepared sandwiches (as half board). The lady that cleaned our room was very nice and loved talking to the children.

The public areas in the whole hotel were very clean and all the staff were pleasant, especially the reception and bar staff.

Ana in the restaurant was very nice and always welcomed you. Other staff were pleasant and found service very efficient. We were disappointed with the food, was expecting 5 star food from the reviews but we got pretty average 3 star buffett food which was always luke warm or cold.

We found reps pleasant and children's entertainers very friendly. We did try and take our children to the Tots club but they would not stay but our 3 year old who can go to the toilet with help was left to take herself to the toilet while at the club and we found her crying in the toilet. When we asked they are not insured to take children to the toilet - so make sure your younger children go to the toilet before you leave them and hope they do not need to go again for 2 hours.

David was excellent and full of energy, the children loved him, my children loved seeing him dressed in a spanish dress with make up on! Most children seemed to like the one hour of entertainment in the evening but this was very repetative. The entertainment that followed the bingo was far too noisy, and you could not hold a conversation with other guests without shouting. We just went for a walk. The hotel is around a 10/15 minute walk to beach or 45 minutes if you have young children with you who don't walk very fast (we hired a seconded from hotel at a cost of 30 euros but worth it).

The resort was pretty average, level and suitable for a pushchair. Normal assortment of gift shops. Beach nice, very shallow and suitable for children.

Would I go back to the hotel - not my first choice but if the price was right. I feel we did get value for money but only just. We had a nice holiday and the children enjoyed themselves.

This is the third time we have stayed at a Thompson Superfamily hotel and all the entertainment reps were at hand to offer the usual games and activities that you would like, including basketball, football, shooting etc.

Our children who are aged 3 and 5 really enjoyed the tots club and asked to go everyday, they had a drop in club in the afternoon which they went to as well. They were looked after really well and always enjoyed themselves.

The restaurant always provided a good selection of food, which was plentiful and theres something there for everyone, with very nice puds!

We were in a room overlooking the main road on the fifth floor, and on the whole werent worried with the traffic, just the odd noisy motorbike and they do love to beep their hooters.

The hotel is a few minutes walk from the main strip in Salou, which is lined mostly with all the normal tourist shops and restaurants and is only about a 10 minute walk from the very crowded beach. When we went to the beach we found it quieter to jump on the bus to the next resort of Cambrills, which was only about 1.5 euros each and took about 20 mins.

It is also well situated for Barcelona. We made our own way there by train and for all of us it cost around 40 euros and took about 1hr 30 mins. Once you get to Barcelona you can get around easily using the metro ( very cheap) or get a tourist bus which costs around 20 euros pass which you can hop on and off of all day.

We also went to Aquapolis for the day which we found quite expensive but if you child is over 1.2 metres tall there are lots of things for them to do.

We did think about going to PortAventura but were told by other travellers that our children were too small but apparently for older children its brilliant.

Now for the bad bits; the hotel is looking a bit tired and looking at the awards on the walls it hasnt won anything for about 5 years.
The children had lovely beds in the bedroom but we had a sofa bed which was really hard and the pull out bed which you could feel every spring.

We asked for pillows after the first night and had to wait 4 days because they had run out.

I found one of the receptionists very rude, but on the whole most of them were very helpful.

I also dont understand why they have to leave the doors locked to the pool until 9am. I think they must find it funny to watch all us brits queue up and then run to put our towels on the beds, it definitely put a dampner on the holiday.

Overall just ok saved by excellent Reception,Housekeeping and Bar
Disappointed with the Restaurant where food variety generally good however hot food was never hot!.Service in the Restaurant very poor you lay your own table fully for breafast and on 2 occasions twice for dinner.Staff more interested in clearing vacated tables than clearing dirty plates from occupied tables
Lack of smiles from the staff in the restaurant meant overall a very poor Restaurant experience.

However of major concern was the main stairwell fire doors were pegged open and not on electromagnets so in the event of a fire and the alarm being activated the doors would not close and the stairs may not provide a safe exit route as there would be nothing to stop the fire spreading

To be fair previous holidays with Thomsons Family Club have been very good-Coma Gran and Bonnnaire in Majorca

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks and didn't get 1 night of uninteruppted sleep!. It is situated on a busy road and one block down from 3-4 nightclubs. The noise was from car horns and revellers leaving the clubs and singing. This went on all night until about 6 in the morning.
The hotel itself is a bit tired and in need of refurbishment. The food was excellent and the staff all very friendly. The pool area is nice with plenty of sunbeds but limited parasols. The evening entertainment is a bit limited. Definitely not somewhere I would recommend.

We stayed at the Avenida for two weeks, myself, my husband and two children aged 8 and 3. We arrived on the saturday night about 8pm, The reception staff were excellent, we were'nt waiting around for ages to get our keys. We then went for tea in the restaurant. There is only karaoke on saturday night for entertainment so we went for a walk to find our bearings, it is only a ten minute walk to the beach, other shops and restaurants. The restaurant was lovely, something different every night. The kids did not go hungry, there is always something for them to have. The service is the restaurant was great. Out of the 14 nights we only went out at night for two of them (both the karaoke nights). The entertainment was great. especially for the kids, they have a mini disco at 8.20pm for about an hour and then the entertainment starts. the kids loved the disco as they learnt all the party songs/dances. The kids club team were excellent, the only day they dont run is on a thursday. They were fantastic with the kids and we felt at ease when they were there. The pool was fantastic. There is a small baby pool and a larger pool which is divided into two areas, a really deep side and a shallow(ish) side. My three year old loved the shallow side, he could go as far in as he wanted. The entertainment team were great, sarah and david are worth their weight in gold, they took time out to ensure the kids had a great time. There were a couple of entertainers who were a bit abrupt with the kids and you just wanted to tell them to chill out, but you cant please everyone. The waiters by the bar and pool were fantastic, so polite and friendly.. Now the bad part, what is happening to all us Brits !!! The pool doors opened at 9am for access to the pool, people were RUNNING to the sun beds and putting towels on them, this is a real joke...... Do we really need to do this? some people were putting towels on beds, going to the beach then coming back to the pool, someone else could of used them beds for the day.... We really need to look at ourselves, it was like a donky derby !!!!

Overall i would def reccommend this holidays, the kids loved it and at the end of the day, if they are happy, then we are, enjoy !!!
