we got a 3rd floor room with no view only a laneway and a brick wall, when i asked to have a room with a pool view as i had two children with me i was told there were none available, then a different staff member told me id have to pay an extra 10euro a night for a pool view which meant another 140euro on top of what i already paid, the staff are not helpful or friendly at all.there is no entertainment on init at night,i personally wouldnt recommend it,the pool is a good size thats about the only good thing.

We were a little concerned about the hotel having read some bad reviews but found that the Jardin del Mar was a descent hotel for the price we paid. Rooms were well used but clean and comfortable with enough space for the three of us. Pool area was nice - don't hang about in the morning if you want a sunbed however as these get snapped up as soon as the pool opens at 9am.

There was some noise from teenage guests but this was dealt with very quickly when we complained. Lots of comments have been left regarding thefts. We hired a safe deposit box in the reception area which provided peace of mind.

The little cove next to the hotel was a bonus and lovely for swimming and snorkelling.

The hotel is very close to the square where there is live entertainment and lots of shops selling the kind of tat that all kids seem to love! The nicer restaurants are round the other side of the bay but it's a pleasant walk. We avoided the Irish Quarter as felt this was a bit rowdy for our tastes. My only criticism was that the hotel could have made more their bar area in the evenings. It lacked in atmosphere somewhat, but other than that if you are on a budget then the Jardin del Mar is fine.

This hotel is a 3* basic hotel.
Rooms are adequate we were a family of 3.
Tv's in rooms- seperate bedrooms. Our room looked out onto the pool area and the sea.
Hotel was noisey at night seemed to be full of younger holiday makers. We are only in our 30s but found this so bad we complained.
Overall holiday was fine .

After reading the negative reviews I was quite worried but I have to say was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are clean and adequate for a self catering base. Maid came every day except Thursday and Sunday and the kitchen has all the basics though you do need to hire a toaster for 10 euros a week. The staff were friendly contrary to other peoples experiences and were prompt in mending the air con when requested and providing extra pillows. The food at the pool area was good and reasonably priced.

Enjoyed Santa Ponsa with no shortage of bars and restaurants. The square is great for families with younger kids and plenty of lively bars for the older ones. Check out Fat Sams restaurant at the other side of the bay for fantastic steaks, burgers and ribs. Huge portions at reasonable prices.

Now the negatives......
Sunbeds! I have never in my life seen such a ridiculous pantomime as the "sunbed run" that occurs every morning at 9am. The doors are locked until 9am and people queue up with arms full of towels from at least 8.15. When the doors open grown men and women sprint across the pool area to bag the sunbeds. They take no prisoners, jumping over beds, grass and around trees. It is hilarious but quite sad. Basically if you want a bed, you have to run.

Theft! I was extremely concerned about the number of reported thefts at the hotel prior to our stay and we took extra care to be vigilant. While we were there I spoke to a lady who's room had been entered, no break in and 100 euros taken from a pocket. Also the family next door had some taken though I am not sure how much. A couple of days later I was at reception and a man was complaining that 200 euros had been taken. Again no sign of a break in. These are just the ones I heard of, I am sure there were more we don;t hear about. The worrying thing is that the hotels does not seem to be addressing the issue. There is obviously a thief operating here and the hotel booking agencies need to be asking questions on behalf of their customers.

Overall we had a great time though might have been different if we had been robbed.

I stayed here May 2011 with my boyfriend we went self catering. We chose this Hotel because of its location, price and mostly the internet pictures made it look gorgeous. We cant really complain for paying £200 for 6 nights… but I will say it didn’t really live up to the pictures online.
Location is right beside the busy “square” area were you get family entertainment on stage surrounded by bars. Beach is 15 walk away. The outside pool was open, however the indoor heated pool closes in April all through the summer months. You can ask reception for a key to use the sauna, although they want you to pay extra cash and for very short use of it.
It is one of those energy saving Hotels, where you need to put your key in the wall at the door to turn the electricity on, so once you leave the room, all electricity turns off, plus reception ask to keep your key for you every time you exit the hotel – as it is the only key they have, apart from the cleaners…

Apartment was clean, nice bathroom, very small kitchenette with only cooking hob and a fridge. Some cooking pots/utensils supplied but were very old, used and stained…we paid extra for a sea view from our balcony, which although it was actually a POOL side view and the sea was away in the distance, I would still recommend paying extra for it, otherwise you will be looking right in to the next wall of balconies, likewise they will be looking over at yours… decent bedroom and living space although walls are very thin in this hotel, I’ll leave it at that… oh there is a tv but only of use to you if you speak German, yip… German channels.

We went in the first week of January and it was I would say a very clean 3 star, room was good with separate living room and kitchen. The indoor pool was fantastic and we had it all to ourselves. The food was okay - perfect for the kids. Bit boring for the adults but lots of it. The puddings were brilliant. We went half-board. There is a supermarket (good prices) about a 2 minute walk away. There is a hob in the kitchen so you could easily go self-catering. The sea views are gorgeous. The drive from the airport is about 1 hour. Off-season the town is pretty much dead as a dodo. The walk to the main beach (the coastal way) is very rough and you can't do it with a pushchair - it is like mini mountaineering. The road route to the main beach is very long. There is no shade either way (for the kids). We didn't think much of the beach - it is long but the sand is the dirty grey type with lots of pebbles and bits of rubbish. People let their dogs poo all over the beach and there are also lots of stray dogs.

You can only get wifi in the main reception area but it is free.

Please don't pay too much for this place, don't think it is worth more than £40 a night. It is okay if you hire a car otherwise you are stuck in a tiny town (village) in the middle of nowhere. There are buses but not frequent ones and it all seemed too much of a gamble with small children.

Off season you can get great deals here for a budget break. Note that it was mainly full of German pensioners who stay for the whole winter. They were very polite and friendly (the Germans) - actually nicer than the Spaniards.
