“Great hotel, friendly staff = great holiday. 28 august to 4 september 2011”
Reviewed 4 October 2011

We have recently come back from santa ponsa. I decided to book the playas del rey after much review reading and so glad i did. We had a lovely clean, and beutifully decorated room facing over the swimming pool . The hotel reception and restaurant were tastefully decorated and very clean and we always received a pleasant hello from the staff and very helpful information. The cleaners came into our room daily with fresh towels and made the beds. The pool was clean and tidy and the sun terrace was a lovely place to sunbath. Breakfasts were great with lots of choice, toast, cereals, sausages, scrambled egg and bacon, and of course yogurt, cheeses and ham. The evening meal was a set menu each evening. Although as mentioned by other reviewers the choices on the menu were limited but you could not fault the quality and the presentation of the food served to us. You have a choice of one starter perhaps the hotel could reconsider adding a couple of choices to the menu. Both my husband and daughter dont like fish so they didnt eat some of their evening starters. For us the main courses were tasty meat or fish dishes, and lovely deserts. The restaurant staff were great and it was a pleasure to dine. The hotel you could tell has had a lot of money spent on the refurbishment over the winter.
santa ponsa is 20 minutes away on the bus to palma and you can catch a bus from the plaza for 2.95 euros each. We headed of to palma, a beutiful place, one day then went back to palma again to catch an old wooden train from palma to soller a lovely town for about 17.00 euros and later we took a tram to the harbour for 4.oo euros. well worth it a must if you like to explore. the week we arrived in santa ponsa there was a festival going on for two weeks with music and entertainement which gave the place a great atmosphere. Also we took snorkels as we found a point as you turn left out of the playas del ray, a little cove where we could swim and see a multitude of fish and even an octupus. We even walked to the top of some steep steps on one side of the bay which was well worth it for the views. enough said hope this helps you decide.

Room Tip: we had a pool view room which was great

First class hotel which has been tastefully refurbished, with very helpful and friendly staff. We stayed on a B&B basis and the food was of a very high standard, but I must say if you like a full english breakast the nearest you would get would be scambled egg and fried bacon, but saying that we asked for fried eggs most mornings and they cooked them especially for us. Nice pool/pool area even though a little on the small side but there is also the sun terrace. Great location, 5 mins from the beach and on the bus route too. Would certainly recommend to anyone and would also like to return at some stage .

hotel had changed hands since we had booked the holiday whilst it was very clean and the people were friendly but it lacked atmosphere, not enough sunbeds for the size of the hotel,no music by the pool. when woke up the first morning we had ants near the wardrobe and some inside which i wasn't too happy about but it didn't spoil our hol, would go back to santa ponsa but not to the playas del rey

stayed at the Del Rey from 18th to the 22nd september, having never been there before couldnt comment on what the Del Rey was previously like anyway its very nice now, stayed in room 408 (having asked for a higher room when booking) and found ourselves on the forth floor with excellent views over the bay, we stayed on a b&b basis and found the breakfast very good, those people who have complained about the breakfast well, what more do they expect other than, egg, bacon, sausage, juice, several hams, several cheeses, various breads, yoghurts, fresh fruit, cereals? perhaps oysters and champagne? if so go to the 6 stars in dubai.

Room Tip: ask for an upper floor as the views are great

We have just returned home after spending a week at the Playas Del Ray small and frendly boutique hotel, Santa Ponsa Majorca. On half board basis. we stayed in room 105, which suited our needs very well, as we are both disabled. The hotel has an excellent situation just a few mins walk to the beach, The hotel has its own roof top private sun bathing area., on the ground floor a swimming pool with another sun bathing area.. From the moment you arrive you have to be impressed by the efficient and friendly welcome you receive from the Manager and reception staff, who go out there way to make sure your stay is a wonderful experience, and it was.. .

Breakfast at the hotel was excellent with sufficient choice to satisfy the most ardent critic. Every evening dinner was a gourmet delight from a most imaginative and creative chef . All the staff, dining room, bar and reception were extremely helpful and polite and could not do enough for guests. The hotel room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and cleaned every day with regular changes of bed linen and towels. The cleaning staff were fantastic. We have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world and this hotel was on par with all of them, .

I have no doubt that we will return here in the not too distant future. our score out of ten, has to be 10. well done.

I have been going on holiday to this hotel for 38 years as child through to adult. I was aware that there were to be changes as the previous owners have sold the hotel, but i was horrified at what had happened. The money spent down in the bar restaurant and reception is very obvious for all to see but i can assure you there is no money been spent on the rooms, changes in rooms are all original furniture from previous years have had a coat of grey gloss paint ( which means i had to fight to open my drawer every time, due to them all being so tight.) 2 stripes painted on main wall in room, 1 red and 1 grey to match curtains, top covers and a scatter cushion. During my stay we had 24 hour with no hot water, when reported to staff they informed me "it sometimes happens" when the weather is 36c and you have been on the beach (as you cant get a bed at the pool) the last thing you expect is freezing cold showers/baths. In all the time i have been going to this hotel i have never heard of this happening for this length of time. (possibly an hour or two). Staff were arrogant and the staff on reception at night were always asking return guests there opinion of the changes but did not like when you gave your opinion. I normally meet up with 7 other couples for the last week of August and the first week in september but we all decided this year we will be going to another hotel next year as we were so disgusted in the hotel this year.

Room Tip: try to get a room to the front as side rooms either look in to the side wall of hotel next door or i...
