“Sunbed Bedlam - Quirky Hotel. Won't be returning.”
Reviewed 1 September 2014

Fact - Sunbeds - Queue until 08.30hrs to claim sunbeds ( people queued a lot earlier to be amongst the top half of the queue). Sunbeds are so scarce in comparison to the number of hotel guests wanting them that lots of people queued as if it was for the Harrods Sale. See my photo of the queue. The queue snaked back to the lifts at the back of the Bar.
Fact - All Inclusive - No Bottled Water available ( unless you pay for it) - you only have the choice of glasses / plastic tumblers of water to carry around.
Fact - All Inclusive - Limited drinks available at Lunch / Dinner ( photo of Drinks Menu attached) Beer only available in a wine glass.
All Inclusive - Pool Bar, you must ask for Gordons or Bacardi or Bells or Smirnoff to get them otherwise you'll end up with very very cheap local Spirits. The Thomas Cook Rep. will tell you this but you have to keep an eye on the staff as they will 80% + of the time give you local spirits even though you've pointedly asked for these Brands.
The lifts are dangerous - we and other guests were caught in the lift that's second from the left. The Doors do not recognise when someone or something is caught in it, the door closes pretty quickly. The next door lift jammed with the 3 of us and another person in- for five minutes , with us pressing the alarm bell (for 4 minutes) which we heard ringing. Other guests on the other side of the lift managed to open the lift doors. We had heard from other guests that they had been stuck in the lift and no one from the Hotel came to help them.
We complained about this to the Hotel Head Receptionist / Manager, she said it was nothing to do with the Hotel but it was fault of the Lift Company. A couple of days later a Hotel Technician tried unsuccessfully to keep open the Lift door but very nearly had his hand caught in the door.
we heard from another couple that they complained about their room phone not working. They were told its nothing to do with the hotel and that it was an outside problem. Three days later they had their phone made operable.
Our Sink was blocked and we called reception, they sent a technician, he cleared it but next day it was blocked again, another technician managed to unblock it.
Air conditioning was smelling of tobacco smoke during the evening and night, I reported this. They would look into it but no one ever did. The smell went after the next door residents left the next day.
The Sunbeds are ridiculously close to each other unless you manage to get a real Double SunBed - I've attached photos of the close proximity ie elbow to elbow and head to toe of the sunbeds, added to this are the SunShades that if open by the people at your feet then that shade will block the sun from you.
We never saw the pool being cleaned properly, only a person with a net clearing any visible
debris.
The food on offer was very good and the Italian and Spanish nights were particularly good, with a wealth of choice and good quality.
The Entertainment was fine - Thomasz was funny and entertaining. Craig, the more experienced rep. was funny and sung well.
The A La Carte restaurant was a delight as was the Chef and the wonderful waitress.
Wi-fi is free but due to guests not being able to access it, either in their rooms or around the Hotel, the hotel changed the Wi-Fi protocols at least three times in two days.
Added to this poor Holiday, my wife had a chest infection on the 4th day of our stay. Upon returning home, she has been to the Doctors twice due to the seriousness of the infection and has been prescribed strong Antibiotics and Steroids, she is still suffering.

Room Tip: Higher the room the better the view - obvious but worth the money.

We have waited four weeks now before writing this review. We went for 11 nights returning home on the 2nd August.
We have been to "adults only" hotels now for the past 3 years ,in Greece, Turkey and Cyprus. This year we did not want to fly so far so chose the Sentido Punta del Mar.
On arrival and entering the reception it is obvious the hotel is in a fantastic position overlooking the bay. However we did not feel that the hotel utilises the large reception area enough. We felt that due to the fantastic views through the big picture windows that a small bar would have been an improvement.
Our room was ok, but that was it, ok. Nothing special. The toilet and shower are a bit dated and even though it was clean, its age made it look "grubby". The towels provided were not of a particularly good quality, and as much in this hotel, showed their age.
One disapointment was the fridge. It was empty. If you wanted anything in the fridge, you had to pay extra, even for water. Strange seeing we were on a all inclusive holiday.
There were 2 sunbeds on our balcony. However we came back one afternoon to find they had been taken. Probably to make up for tha lack of beds around the pool. If we had been asked if we minded losing the sunbeds it would not have been a problem, but to find they had just taken them was another disappointment.
Lastly with the room. The way the bed is positioned means that the lights from the corridors shines all night through the door gaps and can be seen from the bed while sleeping. Not a big problem, but again disappointing.
The pool was good and the management of the sunbeds went well.
On an upper floor is the Blue Bar. A lovely bar with views over the bay. However....you could not get the full compliment of all inclusive drinks at the Blue Bar! We never understood this.
The bar by the pool, where you could get the full compliment of all inclusive drinks was alright and most of the staff there were good.
The food was ok. There was enough choice and you will not starve, but there was never anything that really made your mouth water.
The dining room itself was very much of its time, the 80s. Reminded me a bit of Butlins dining halls.
Whilst I personally do not enjoy hotel entertainment, I would say that the 2 guys that ran the entertainment, Tomas and Craig, were both very nice and engaging people.
All in all, the hotel is ok, but it lacks something and is not as good as the more modern hotels. It certainly felt like that this hotel grasps the all inclusive style ot todays holidaying very reluctantly.
We will not be coming back to this hotel and in fact have booked the Commodore Elite in Turkey again for next year. A bit further to go and a bit more expensive but definitely a 5* hotel and the Sentido Punta del Mar is no more that 3*

Stayed at the Punta Del Mar from August 9th to 23rd with Thomas Cook, all inclusive and had a very mixed but enjoyable holiday. As mentioned in all reviews, the setting and location of the hotel is stunning, overlooking the bay of Santa Ponsa and the Mediterranean. The reception on the sixth floor unashamedly maximises these views, drawing you into the Mediterranean Sea on your arrival.

Unfortunately from then on our stay did not live up to our expectations. We had booked a junior suite on the top (7th) floor and enjoyed stunning views with a good size balcony and 2 sun beds (unbearably hot from mid morning onwards). The room was a decent size, but the air conditioning was a joke, simply not adequate for a room of this size. The cold air that was pushed out, barely reached more than a couple of feet. For many of the evenings, the sweat just poured off us whilst we were getting ready for dinner. We complained 3 times, first two visits from technician absolutely no difference, so third time actually stayed in room to see the guy, who did his best (cleaning filters, adjusting vents etc), resulting in just a very slight improvement. Apparently on speaking with other guests, other rooms were experiencing the same problem. Note to hotel management, having complained 3 times, some explanation would have been nice.

The bathroom had no bath or bidet, just a walk-in shower, sink and toilet. Designed very much to be a wet room, however when showering, the water went everywhere, soaking most of the bathroom floor. Towels simply not enough and what there was, very old and worn. On one occasion, one was left with a massive hole in it! The maid service and cleaning of the room was nowhere near what we would expect from a 4 star hotel. Surfaces not cleaned, glasses and tea cups not being washed up every day. More complaints, responded first time but after that no dramatic improvement, so gave up! Fed up with complaining and did not want to think that we were habitual complainers, which we are not!

Which now brings us to sun beds and dress code for evening meals. I could not believe it!

The hotel has a sun bed policy to stop people reserving beds with towels at 6 in the morning. Access to beds is at 8.30am, meaning doors to the pool area are locked until then. So us holiday makers patiently turn up and form an orderly queue at the doors. Undeniably the hotel has ample sun beds, all be it a little compact in spacing and very much your normal run-of-the-mill sun bed, but, teasingly, around the perimeter of the hotel grounds, overlooking the sea are the crème of the crème sun beds, double sofa beds with head rests and cushions. Extremely desirable, hence those first in the queue will bag these first. However not a given, as soon as the doors are opened, people from way behind rush forward, elbowing their way to the front, leaping over sun beds and sprinting to their sun bed of choice. Total mayhem, how no one got hurt, I honestly don’t know!

Briefly, literally, is the dress code for dinner. As most hotels abroad, gentlemen must wear long trousers and shirts, yet women are allowed to dine in little more than swim wear! How long will this total disparity go on for. All hotels really must need to review this.

OK, so Victor has now got all this off his chest and reflects on the more enjoyable experiences of his holiday. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and cheerful, especially in the restaurant and the young guys and girls in the bar. Beware though there is a very strict drinking up/ closing of the bar at midnight. Fair enough, but on a couple of occasions the more senior bar staff were somewhat abrupt and a little rude on asking us to leave. Stop it Victor!

Could not complain about the food, plenty of choice for all courses. Particularly liked the fish and pork dishes available on most days and the Chinese that was served once a week. Lunchtime snacks good, hot dogs, burgers, toasties, baguettes, salads etc. and everything comes with chips.

If you have booked with Thomas Cook and all inclusive, you are allowed one free meal in the ‘a la carte’ restaurant and is well worth taking up the offer. You are served 8 courses (taster size, but still good portions), superbly cooked and presented. Wine from menu and bottled water will be charged though. A very enjoyable couple of hours (spent with excellent company).

The hotel provides daytime and evening entertainment. The format is very much similar to Thomson Gold, but a little scaled back. Usual morning water aerobics, a fun but somewhat physical game of water polo, lunchtime quiz and an afternoon activity, interspersed with cookery, cocktail demos, Spanish and line dancing lessons. This is followed in the evenings by trivia (mostly music/film) quizzes and bingo, ending with the usual (somewhat cheesy) tribute acts. Remarkably all this is run and hosted by just two entertainers – Craig and Thomasz – who absolutely work their socks off for six days a week.

Well done guys, we loved your quizzes, Tom’s physical approach to the water aerobics and Craig’s more dance inspired routine. Do try and catch Craig’s evening one-man show. He is very talented, lovely voice and very entertaining.

Other good points, hotel decor, TV in rooms showing BBC and ITV, Wi Fi, the all inclusive package, spa and gym. The Blue bar for the great views of the sunset and chilled out area, but not so much for the cocktails.

And finally what really put a smile on Victor’s face, the fantastic friends we made, couples like ourselves (but not so grumpy), mums and daughters, families and not forgetting the entertainers, Tom and Craig. All very good company and really did make our holiday.

Would not go back, hotel a little isolated and Santa Ponsa nothing special. The air con fiasco really did make our stay uncomfortable and if I had to fight for another sun bed, I think that both my feet would end up in a grave! Regrettably only a 3 star rating from Victor.

Room Tip: Most rooms have good sea views. Check to see which rooms have good air conditioning.

My wife and I needed to get away for a week in the sun to recharge after a busy year. We chose the Hotel Sentido Punta del Mar from a recommendation by the advisor at Thomas Cook's. This is a adult only hotel so no screaming kids around the pool. From the moment we entered the reception area, with its panoramic view across the bay we knew this was something special. The room was spacious, clean, a balcony overlooking the sea and offered everything we needed for our stay. We opted to go for all inclusive and was not disappointed by the quality and variety of food on offer. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and evening meal and had a snack around the pool for lunch. All drinks were included and the quality of the spirits and wine were very good. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much bother and they never expected a tip for any help they gave. The whole place seems to be like a large family run establsihement as everyone looked like they enjoyed there work, even when they were working extremely hard to keep the customer happy. INn the evenings the Blue bar was open which was on the 5th floor and gave a fantastic view over the bay while you reclined on a sunbed in the early evening sunset and enjoyed a few cockteils. I would recommend this hotel to people wanting to get away from the bustle of modern day life and relax.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top two floors have larger balconies and better views.

We spent a brilliant fortnight here, the last 2 weeks of August 2014.
The hotel is a clean, bright and well maintained place to spend your holiday. The adults only break we selected meant we had a much needed relaxing time in this most tranquil of places with no children.
The wellness spa is fantastic with cool water pool, steam room, sauna and various showers all free to use, plus they offer massage and similar treatments which do cost money.
The pool area generally is a nice place to be with some soft double bed style loungers that are highly prized and the usual one person sun beds, although a few more larger beds would be better. Make sure you're ready for an early start if you have your eyes on a particular bed, the doors to the pool are opened at 08.30 and there is usually a queue.
They operate a system where a member of staff will remove towels from beds that have been unoccupied for between 30-60 minutes depending on the time of day.
The pools themselves are adequate, maybe a little small but that's not a criticism.
The rooms are a good size, brightly decorated and clean. Air conditioning is installed and makes a massive difference. We had room 317 overlooking the pool area and the Santa Ponsa bay and we loved it.
The restaurant was great, if a little busy at times, where a good selection of foods to suit all tastes is offered. The main clientele are couples but all of the tables are sized for four, so most tables are only half occupied, annoying when you're waiting to be seated.
There is a small section set aside for people to eat outside, but this just encourages the smokers to light up 2 seconds after their last mouthful with no regard for others. The kitchen & restaurant staff are very professional, pleasant and courteous, if you arrive for your evening meal at 18.30 when the doors are opened you are greeted by a 'guard if honour' line up of all the staff with smiling faces and buena noches from all. Also, all you men must remember to wear trousers to dinner, no shorts.
The Blue bar is an outdoor terrace bar that is a wonderful place to be just before sunset. You'll be able to order your usual drinks here as well as the 'daily cocktail', but you'll have to accept the smokers are going to be there as well.
The daytime and evening entertainment staff, Craig & Tomasz, are both great guys, work really hard and will put smiles on your faces. Craig in particular with his song and dance background put on a brilliant show which was possibly the entertainment highlight of our holiday, will done!
The hotel is situated at the top of a hill, a five minute walk takes you into the local shops and bar area, fifteen more minutes and you arrive at the Santa Ponsa beach area with more of the same shops and bars.
We were happy with our choice and will definitely be considering an adult only holiday at a Sentido run hotel in the future.

First impression is a breathtaking view from reception with a welcoming drink followed by the delight of being upgraded to a junior suite 602. Our room greeted us with another spectacular view and the classic kissing swans modelled with bath towels and rose petals, we then has a series of visits from housekeeping to check room was okay, maintenance to check air com and a waiter with a bottle of champagne and some exotic fruits.
The facilities were very good and the food of a good standard. Close enough to the town without being impacted by hustle and bustle and a constantly changing view across the active bay. Poolside was generally very good, once we had worked out the sun bed protocol to became a point of amusement and study in human behaviour - morning stampede to get the best sun beds was completely unnecessary and said more about some of the guests than the hotel! Staff we great and could do enough to make our stay wonderful. (A bit disappointing that bike rental was not on site). Breakfast al fresco and the blue bar were highlights as were the Balinese style beds and local children jumping from cliffs in to the crystal clear water.

Room Tip: High floors - as this is where the suites are.south side has better view of the bay and all that goe...
