Just returned from a holiday in Hotel Punta del Mar in Santa Ponsa. The hotel is situated at the northern end of Santa Ponsa and has excellent views of the sea and surrounding coastal areas. It is about 15/20 minutes walk to the centre of Santa Ponsa although there is a very lively square a short walk from the hotel which has live entertainment every night until about midnight. You can then enjoy a drink in one of the many bars in the sqaure until the early hours. The hotel was fantastic. The restaurant staff were very friendly particularly a waiter called Juan. His friendliness made us enjoy our meal even more. The food was first class and there was a magnificent selection of food. Breakfast was equally as good. We were on half board (ie Breakfast and Dinner), but you could change dinner with lunch provided you gave notice. The food selection for Lunch was not as extensive as Dinner but was still within an acceptable standard. We asked if they were going to have Gazpacho any night but we were told that the majority of the clientele preferred warm soups. Notwithstanding that they made a jugful of Gazpacho just for us.

There were 2 pools and there were always sunbeds available irrespective of what time of the day you went to the pool. The room was roomy with a fantastic terrace area to enjoy the views. The sound of the waves gave the illusion we were on a cruise. There was a television but you need to pay a nominal fee for it to be operational. About 10 euros for a week. The rooms were cleaned every day.

The hotel is thorughly recommended and I would have no hestitation in staying there again.

Our fourth time at this hotel, and once again, we had a very enjoyable stay. This year we took my wife's elderly parents and they were well looked after and found the hotel easy to negotiate and the food to their liking. The resort itself was relatively quiet but we had some good nights in the Square and Auld Triangle. Very little to complain about apart from the smokers in the public areas - the weather was fantastic and the views from the hotel are exceptional. Will definately be going here again next year.

Having checked the reviews of the hotel before we booked we had quite high expectations of the hotel which the hotel fully met on some and didn't on others. As stated by other reviewers the view on arrival really lifts the spirits - sea on all sides - and while this is probably the hotel's biggest plus it could do with some general TLC for it to match this standard. In this rerspect the 3 star rating for the hotel is about right.
Our room on the top floor was functional but quite basic and some of the general finishing was frankly a bit poor - noisy air con, cracked floor tiles, leaky toilet, shower screen that leaked. Whilst none of this really detracts from our holiday in general it left me with the impression of what the hotel could be with a bit more care.
Good points - location; hotel restaurant was very good, bar snacks also.
Bad points - Pool area very slippy (saw quite a few accidents): entertainment (limited).
Top tips - 1.We hired a fridge for the room (about 40 Euros for the week) . This also meant that we got an extra card for the electricity which enabled the aircon to be on continuously - very nice to come into; 2. Some reviewers mentioned a hill on the walk back from the Square . If you make sure you go right out of the hotel then there's no hill at all.
Finally, Santa Ponca itself caters very much for the British abroad. If you seek and like this then you'll be fine. If you want a more of a foreign flavour then this may not be the resort for you.

just returned from 2 week stay, and the hotel was great, it was close to the square where there is a different act on every night, also took the bus into paguera next resort round which is predominantely german, but it has a superb beach. We went self catering but opted to upgrade to half board just because eating out was expensive. the food was lovely and there was loads to choose from, one downfall of the restaurant is a very angry looking waiter but everyone else very helpful. the views from this hotel are amazing. We had a huge room, it had two bathrooms, 1 bedroom, lounge which had 2 single beds also and dining area the kitchen was hidden in a cupboard, with fridge and hob, plenty cups, plates and utensils for snacks, i mean its no good if you want to prepare a sunday roast, but who wants to cook on holiday. the pool has a waterfall, and it has astroturf around it, which is a good idea as the kids dont slip if they are running.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The first thing that hits you when you walk into the Punta Del Mar is the stunning sea view through the attractive arched windows which afford the reception area a light airy feel. The hotel is built into the headland at the northern tip of the bay about 1km walk into the centre of the resort. Although the bay of Santa Ponsa itself is beautiful and very picturesque, the centre of town seemed to me a little overwhelmed with British bars and cafes for my liking and could have done with more of an international appeal.

The hotel itself more than makes up for this. The attractive rooms are very comfortable (the air conditioning proved a god send while we were there), our very pleasant maid visited every day, the ample-sized bathroom had a shower over the bath. The main dining room where we ate breakfast and dinner (lunch was also available if required) was basically decorated but attractive all the same and had plenty of windows with views of the sea and across the bay to Paguera. Breakfast had something for everybody. Fruit and cereals for the health concious, continental options, plenty of hot food including english sausages and bacon, eggs however you wanted them, and croissants and pastries for those in need of something sweet. Dinner also provided plenty of choice with salads and soup for starters, meats, fish, pasta and vegetarian options and for those with room left, ice creams and a variation of desserts available. The staff, like those on reception, and wherever else you came into contact them, were friendly and courteous. The hotel has an indoor pool (for during the winter months) and two pools, plus a kids pool, in a spaceous and attractive sun terrace. Although there were the usual guests who insisted on reserving sunbeds and parasols hours before actually occupying them (the Brits are as guilty of this as the Germans these days), we had no trouble getting our sunbeds daily. Light (and affordable) snacks were available from the bar. Massage and reflexology was also a feature under a gazebo beside one of the pools. The hotel also has organised games and activities for all ages and nightly entertainment.

Go to this hotel if you like a quiet spot and don't mind a bit of a walk (we don't), and if you like good service, comfort and good food.

While I probably wouldn't go back to Santa Ponsa in the near future, I would certainly remember the lovely week I spent in the Punta Del Mar.

I would just start by saying if you don't like walking and like your room to be totally spotless then this is not going to be the place for you, however if like us you love to walk and want a hotel in a beautiful location and can accept a little bit of dust then go for it. The views are amazing the food is great (varied and good choice as well as good starting times of 7.00 for breakfast and 6.30 for dinner) and the 20 minute walk into town is good. Its in a nice quiet location too so a definate bonus if you like to sleep to the sound of the sea and not blaring music. The rooms were cleaned daily and new towels left, ok so the room wasn't totally pulled apart and every scrap of dust cleaned up but lets face it do you do that at home every day! Its not like we paid a fortune to stay so totally acceptable. I didn't see one cockroach in the resort let alone in the hotel although there were a fair few mozzies about so take the insect repellant. Overall the holiday was amazing the staff were friendly and helpful the food was great and the location superb.

Stayed here for 11 nights half board during June with my wife of 21 years ,i thought the views on arrival were fantastic looking over the sea from reception the staff were more than friendly if fact some of the friendliest i have come across , our room on the ground floor was clean and tidy the views from the balcony were just great and as for the food i thought the food was really nice something for everyone hot carvery every night, too salad bar and desserts too die for.Entertainment was great something for everyone every night and during the day too and if it,s not for you then there is always the square which has free entertainment every night of the week from Motown too ABBA but would like too recommend the Auld triangle just up by the square which has a great guitarist on every night who will play anything you like until 3 in the morning (great stuff). The beach is about a 20-30 min walk but there are plenty of shops and restaurants on the way. So too sum up i think for a 3 star hotel this more than exceeds expectation and would not hesitate to go back tomorrow. .
