We stayed at the Rey Don Jaime for 1 week all inclusive in August 2013. We are a young couple who just wanted a cheap all inclusive holiday by the beach. On this the hotel really delivered.

I have found most of the reviews on here to be accurate. In brief this is our honest opinion -

Rooms and hotel -
Very clean, maid service every day, staff are brilliant, all speak good English and are always smiling, quick clearing of tables in dining room. Bedroom was fine, we had a road view but it was very quiet.

Food -
Overall it wasn't great. Breakfast was a big selection of English fry up, toast, cereals, pastries, fruit and continental. Lunch and dinner very hit and miss. Food sometimes cold. Puddings were mainly weird jelly creations.

Pool and entertainment -
Nice pool, the sun bed queue was ridiculous. Pool doors open at 8.30 and we were told some people queue from 7am!! Not enough beds for everyone. Entertainment good for the kids, very loud and constant.

Location -
Very nice beach literally 5 mins walk. Beautiful views. Lots of little shops, chemist, supermarket etc.

Be warned - there is a disgusting sewage smell from the hotel next door which wafts across from time to time. Horrible.

We would go back to Santa Ponsa but not this hotel. However, it's cheap and cheerful, good drinks selection for all inclusive and close to lovely beach.

Went back to Rey Don Jaime for our third time and was a little disappointed with the food this year as the quality had dropped a little but is still above a 3 star all inclusive.MAX and ROS are the stars of this hotel without them we would not go back there, they work so hard each and every day as do all the team and always have a smile on their faces and always will stop and talk to guests the areFABULOUS.if you don't enjoy The Rey it will be your own fault

Room Tip: 472 has a good sea view

We have been to this hotel 4 times and each time we go there seems to be less space around the pool. The last time there we were unable to get a bed around the pool on any of our 7 days, so was left with no option but to spend 12 euros per day on sun loungers on the beach. The hotel has about 450 rooms and there are around 60 loungers around the pool, You do the maths ! The activities for the kids are good but constant, so if your looking for 5 minutes quiet time around the hotel forget it...
The food is good and plentiful and the rooms are sufficient.
The resort of Santa Ponsa is clean and still quiet compared to neighbouring Magaluf and has some good bars for that glass of sangria. Overall still a good family package.

Room Tip: One of the rooms overlooking the pool if you can, weve been 4 times and never had one. They are refe...

Myself and my partner are just back from a wks holiday in this hotel, what a lovely hotel, we were all inclusive, its in a great location, quiet side street, but only 5 mins walk to the beach, the hotel staff were friendly,if you have kids its great as the "monster club" was really good with the kids entertainment, the food was ok, plenty of choices, but the salads and fruit was really nice, our room was overlooking a roof on a side street but very quiet and we had the sun on the balcony all day, the rooms are a bit small but clean and comfortable, the maid was in every day and changed the towels, we also had about 5 British channels on the TV, we had to hire our small fridge about 10 euros per wk and hire the safe which was about the same, there was also a hairdryer in our room, we would definitely go back to this hotel, ohh and on the day we were leaving the hotel we were all inclusive up til 3pm which was a bonus

Room Tip: We had a room near the front of the hotel, the reception, which is quieter, as the entertainment is...

Just returned from a weeks holiday in the Rey Don Jaime and cant fault the hotel.
Only one small problem, when we arrived around 1pm our room wasnt ready and when we got into our room after an hour it was a single room with an extra bed put in, we complained and were moved straight away

Now for the good points

Rooms are lovely, clean and spacious with comfortable beds and good air con
Rooms cleaned and fresh towels every day
Good selection of british channels on the television
Best food i have ever had in a hotel abroad, plenty of choice and eveything warm and fresh
Lovely staff and Reps
Pool area lovely although very but you would expect that in august

All in all a gem of a hotel and highly recommended

Great family hotel. The staff are a real credit to the organisation. The entertainment is outstanding. The all inclusive is good value for money, although I did not rate the beer or the cocktails. I recommend drinking spirits and mixers. Also I recommend buying bottles water as the bar do not serve this and the restaurant will not let you take drinks out.

Room Tip: I would recommend staying on the 2nd floor where we stayed, to save queuing for the lifts.

Night flight out was ok apart from a lengthy wait for the bags at arrival.
Apparently a belt had broken that had affected all 5 conveyors for all the UK incoming flights, some had been waiting for 90 minutes.
Finally got the bags and set off for the hotel. No rep on the bus.
Check in at the hotel was quick, only 4 parties.

As other reviews have stated, you pay extra for fridge, deposit box, etc. A deposit is required for the TV remote but you can operate it ok by the front buttons.

Reading other reviews

Yes! the bed sheets are small,
so are the pillows,
the bath towels are small and threadbare, (presumably so they dont end on the beach).
and the decor is dated and!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So What!!!!
Its a room, its clean, has a shower and a bed, and has a friendly and hardworking housekeeping staff, thats all you need!

We were all inclusive, adding it at the time of booking, we paid £70PP for the week.
Upgrade when you arrive its e20 per adult, e10 per child per day.
Food was ok, choice of meat, fish, salad etc across all meals apart from breakfast which was fruit, meats cereal, and a full english breakfast?
Dinner was better, especially Thursday which was Spanish Night with tapas, paella, etc.Very nice!.
I went to Spain to try all different foods and would like to see more adventurous and authentic foods served and suspect so would the chefs, but as usual the meat and 2 veg, burger and chips brigade, with brown/red sauce was well catered for, SAD really!!!

Pool area is too small for a hotel that size and opens at 0830 so dont be late to queue with your towel for a sunbed!!!,
These are crammed like sardines with loud music and limited parasols.........
We used the pool once and then went to the beach two minutes away.
It is fantastic...With a fine white sand, sunbeds, pedallos etc we happily stayed there for the rest of the week.
There are sunbeds for e4.50 a day but to be fair the sand is that soft we put a towel down.
There are trees lining the beach where you can retreat when it gets too hot.
Facilities on the beach are toilets and free showers.
The supermarket opposite the beach does excellent baguettes.

There are a large selection of shops, bars, restaurants etc...that should keep you entertained easily for a week.
Irish town has bars that are open to 4am and is lively.

'International' eateries, McDonalds, Burger king & Subway are available.

The hotel bar is well staffed, and has adequate seating, pool tables, tv room and pinball & arcade games.

On the last day, as we had a night flight, we paid for a late room to check out at 6pm instead of midday. As you have paid for the extra ,e50, WHY cant you keep the room till the transport arrives???

THOMSON????

The 'all inclusive' finishes at 1500 on the day of departure BUT you can still have an evening meal but NO drink unless you pay extra... WHY!!!!!

THOMSON????

On departure, transport back to palma airport was 30 minutes late, No rep to tell you why.

Word of caution. In case you dont know Palma airport is huge!!!
On departure, from the duty 'free' shop, its a good 9 min walk to A Gate, allow for it.

All in all after last years visit to Ibiza, (see my previous review), I was reluctant to give the balearic islands another chance but was impressed with Santa Ponsa. I would go again.

Rep attendance /assistance was great and they could not do enough for you.

I Gave this a four because of the staff, the Service was excellent and all staff from housekeeping to reception to catering/bar were helpful and cheerful.

I would recommend Hotel rey don jaime as a good place to stay, with a few tweaks it would be fantastic.
