“Good hotel, great location”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

We got back from holiday last Thursday (3rd July) after being very worried due to some of the poor reviews I read just before we went away.

Needless to say, hotel was great with a fantastic location just a couple of minutes walk from the white sandy beach (which was always clean) and calm sea fantastic for swimming.

There was a good selection of food to choose from - we were all inclusive. Wine was great (can sometimes be rubbish when abroad) and snack bar by the pool was very handy with tasty fresh rolls, burgers etc.

Hotel was clean and fresh but the room did let it down a bit - hence the 4 instead of 5. The beds were twin. Normally we would have used these as a double but they were different heights so this wouldn't work. Just a few improvements would make this hotel better - the sheets weren't changed during our stay and didn't seem to fit the beds properly (mattress was exposed most mornings after being asleep).

Pool is good too - a bit smaller than we expected but still very nice. Plenty of sun loungers with parasols.

Be prepared to spend a bit even if you are all inclusive - we paid for a safe (3 euros per day) and 3 days of wi-fi (15 euros for 3 days). We didn't bother with the fridge or kettle (also 3 euros each per day).

On the beach, you can hire 2 sunbeds and a parasol for 13.50 euros per day - we only did this once and used our beach towel the rest of the time (loads available from shops near by). We loved the pedalos 15 euros for 1 hour - brilliant.

A bit of advice - in the restaurant you need to walk to the back right hand corner to get drinks if all inclusive (took us a while to suss this out).

We don't like hotel entertainment so can't review that side. Was a bit noisy at first but only lasts 9.00pm - 11.30pm so easy to avoid.

Room Tip: Our room was 482 overlooking the side of the pool. Noisy during entertainment but fine apart from th...

Stayed with 2 friends for 1 week at the end of June. Really good hotel! Very clean and spacious rooms, very modern lobby, excellent pool and outdoor area. All facilities were good. There was a large selection of food with something for everybody and it was good quality. Staff were very friendly and provided good entertainment every evening. Only thing I could fault is the lack of plug sockets in the rooms. Overall a very pleasant stay and will defiantly be returning in the future!

Stayed here for a week, hotel is lovely, situated well, so close to the beach and the town...only a few minutes walk from all amenities. Hotel is very clean, room was nice just pity that it was 2 single beds put together for a double bed, bit uncomfortable.
Unfortunately the food was not nice, very disappointed, we were here on a half board basis. In the restaurant, there was no one to seat u, so if my husband or me didnt sit at the table picked, someone else could sit at it too,as there was no way of people knowing the table was occupied. There seemed to be very few waiters either as u had to go up to the bar urself to collect a bottle of water or a drink. ..maybe this is the way its done in santa ponsa but ive never see it done this way before! The only disappointing part of the holiday, we ended up eating out everyday..wud have been better if we got a room only and forgot about half board!

Just back from a weeks all inclusive stay here, everything was spot on. We went with 3 Grandsons 15, 13 & 10. We arrived late so took the rooms we were given, but the next day, as we were split up, we asked if they could put us closer together. We were very pleased that the manager gave us a fantastic family room on the top floor, with great views across to the sea. The manager did this in a enthusiastic way and made us feel it wasn't a problem although I know he had to juggle things around to accommodate new arrivals. All the staff and the Thomsons reps were lovely, but I have to give a special mention to Peter the waiter from around the outside bar, he was always smiling and friendly to everyone. Also Carlos in the restaurant was also chatty and very nice. Sometimes when I read poor reviews I think what do pepole want regarding food.... the food was fantastic and they have a lot of variety (we all like different foods and we all found good food every day (even 2 fussy vegetarians) The room was cleaned and beds made every day, again what more could people want? Last mention about the entertainment, we didn't always stay at the hotel at night but the boys enjoyed water sports at 4 o'clock and we saw a good comedian (Goerge) one night, very funny and a fabulous opera singer. My husband was disappointed the kareoke night had changed to Monday and there was not much on on the Saturday night, but he got 2 songs in before we left on Monday!! Probably the lack of entertainment on Saturday night is the only thing I could complain about. (Plenty of entertainment around Santa Ponsa through) So please ignore poor reviews this Hotel is great and if you like Santa Ponsa you'll love this hotel.

Room Tip: I have stayed here twice and rooms overlooking the quiet road are my favourite as the road is quiet...

Had another great holiday at Rey Don Jamie and we are frequent visitors 15 year plus. Hotel changed hands and we saw alot of changes which is to be fair new owner's make changes. No change on staff who are always very helpful especially Abdul on recepcion he helps everyone rest of staff on recepcion are very helpful too. Food drinks and way hotel was kept no change as it was always spotless. On the down side we always hod pool towels and as they no longer available so we had to buy ones.Bed sheets were awful towels were very poor in my opinion some days we had ones that were from the Marina hotel who are gone a long time. The pool area is lovely but far to many sunbeds put far near each other very difficult when you have a disability also new rule you cant leave for more than 40 minutes or towels are lifted not good hope by next year things will have changed. Good to see Monica still there and these changes are new to her also not easy job. We missed Maria on recepcion. We hope to return next year and things on the up hope this helps people going on holiday for first time and are reading negative review's.

Room Tip: Rooms at front suits us.

Positive
Amazing location for a beautiful beach holiday just a few minutes walk away. Great variety of bars, shops & restaurants in close proximity. Pool was a lovely size and plenty of beds to choose from. Rooms cleaned daily to good standard & towels changed upon request. Hotel restaurant provides a good variety of dinners and offer the best English style breakfasts I have ever had outside of the UK. Lovely shower, endless hot water and good pressure. Great price.

Negative
Initially booked into a room without balcony as advertised, however changed without too much fuss (to room 154). Rooms lacked sound proofing (bring ear plugs) with lots of noise late at night / early morning from surrounding guests. Bed is a small double, with disappointing linen / pillows, and the bathroom towels were poor quality. Just one power socket available. Air Con struggled in the day time, but very effective at night. TV was a waste of time with poor quality signal, buttons missing and a remote control that didn't work. You have to pay an additional daily charge for wifi, fridge & safe. Terrible smell from the sewers just along the road, which has to be endured each time you leave the hotel.

Conclusion
Good standard 3* at a great price

Just back 03/07/14 from a week at this hotel with partner and 6 yo. Was quite worried by some of the overly negative reviews but they turned to be unfounded. There was no free WiFi and if I'm being over critical the food was quite repetative. The chef guy was always fun and the meat on the bone served was always delightful. Rooms adequate for what I expected, no better or worse than other 3 star hotels I've stayed I. Unfortunately no pool view from our room but on 5th floor overlooking the front of the hotel and a partial sea view so not too bad at all. Sunset over the hills from the front also so nice at night. The one thing I will say is that the entertainment team were wonderful, especially with the children and there was always something to do for all ages. Thompson Reps also very helpful in the hotel and the staff all very friendly also. I would definitely recommend this hotel as it is very central to the beach and town centre. The entertainment teams and night entertainment are due credit and made for a very enjoyable holiday for us all. With a few tweaks here and there I would have given this 5 stars as it met my expectations and more.
