Please ignore negative comments. I have just returned from a week at the Don Rey Jamie with a mixed group of family and friends consisting of adults and teenagers. I have stayed in a mixture of accommodation over the years from private villas to 5 star hotels in Dubai and I would definatley recommend this hotel. Firstly it was clean - very clean, the staff were pleasent, the food was good and offered a variety. There was always a chef carving a roast joint of some sort, along with soup, salad, cold pasta, cold meats. Breakfast was good always fresh bread, hot buffet choice, cereal and pastries - yes people were using the microwave to warm milk. The bar was good and drinks were reasonable price with comfy sofas. Entertainment was on every night although this was geared more this time of year to the Spanish Saga group but they enjoyed it! Only negative was the outside pool wasn't open in April oh and the indoor pool is very small and off reception where everyone can watch you!! All in all the hotel was good can't comment on what it would be like in August.

Just stayed for a week at this hotel. The hotel itself is clean and nicely furnished, and walking into recepton we thought it would be great! Wrong! The food was almost inedible, it was always either cold or only luke warm and there were queues of people waiting to use the microwave to heat it up. A typical breakfast consisted of fried eggs, (cold) hardboiled eggs (cold) and tiny choritzo sausages (didn't try) Bacon or tomatoes was on the menu twice (lukewarm). There were only 8 British people staying there, so although our rep did her best to help, she couldn't. The hotel was almost full, (it was apparently the Spanish Pensioners winter break) and even they had to heat their food in the microwave. Wouldn't go again if I won a free holiday.

Have been to this hotel 3 times and each time was lovely. Rooms were always cleaned. Staff were always nice especially Natalia who would always stop and talk to you. No more than a 2 minute walk to the lovely Santa Ponsa beach. Food was nice, yes sometimes it does get a bit repetitive but as it was always lovely at least your eating the same nice food rather than rubbish food. A kids area every night with burgers, chips etc also a toastie maker!! Last time I was there the entertainment was good for the kids and the team were always running round keeping the little ones entertained. The pub is open til 3am and the guy in there is lovely! Going back here in 7 weeks with my 3yr old and 11mth old-CANT WAIT!

Third time in gorgeous Santa Ponsa but last visit I pay to this hotel. Chose this hotel because it was one of the only ones available at the time and it´s definitely nothing special.

The hotel could be more friendly towards the guests and not so hung up on hotel rules and regulations. Food is very repetitive and with the same budget you could easily eat outside and much better in a different restaurant everyday. Entertainers are friendly but no proper schedule is followed and really they are just a couple of underpaid kids running around.

Hotel is in good location, only 5 mins from golden sandy beach with Parakeets nesting in the trees along the promenade.
Our first impression was that the hotel reception was very modern, but the rooms were a bit 'tired looking'. However, our room was cleaned daily, with fresh towels provided each day.
I imagine in high season the lifts would be rather cramped as, although there were 4 of them, they were only big enough for 2 people with suitcases, but they did have a separate lift for the disabled and I noticed there were a few people in wheelchairs staying. Actually, when we spoke to other guests several of them said they came back every year so that's a good sign!!
Restaurant food was all buffet style with a HUGE choice - something for everyone.
Pool area is not so big as it looks in the brochure, but very nice, with plenty of sun loungers and a bar serving snacks and drinks with seating either in the sun or shade. Indoor pool is quite small, but warmer at this time of year!
Evening entertainment with Max and Ollie was very good, with free quizzes where you could win a bottle of chilled champagne and bingo EUR5 for 6 cards with a cash prize for a line and full house - sounds tacky, but was actually great fun!
Also, the Blues Brothers show was excellent!

We stayed 16th-23rd October 2009 on a Thomsons package.

The hotel has recently been refurbished in a minimalist style, which seems very austere to start with but it grows on you after a couple of days. All the public areas and bedrooms were kept very clean and the building generally was in very good condition. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful which was in contrast to the restaurant and bar staff who just didn’t seem too interested in anything, especially serving you.

On the plus side the hotel has a good location down a quiet side street with plenty of parking but it only takes a genuine 2 minutes to walk to the beach. It’s only a short transfer from the airport and is off the main flight path so although you can sometimes see aircraft in the far distance we could never hear them.

This hotel has an official 3 star rating and has applied for 4 Star status and in all the brochures it’s rated as a 4 star. However in our experienced based on hotels rated similarly by the same tour operator it falls far short of 4 star and is only a low 3 star. The main reasons for this are the food and the pool area which are simply not good enough.

The best way to describe the food is works canteen, it was edible but very boring and predictable. Stake and kidney pie and chicken and mushroom pie are hardly 4 star menu items. There was usually just one vegetable provided apart from potatoes and chips and invariable these were pre-processed and not fresh. The show cooking was a halfhearted attempt and mostly consisted of warming something up or carving a meat joint. The starters were a salad selection, with the same cheese and meat every night and two different soups both of which were dishwater. The breakfast was identical for 7 days with the hot breakfast items being very poor quality and the pastries limited to the same awful croissants and prepacked fairy cakes.

The photographs of the pools can only be described as a masterpiece of illusion. The indoor pool is little more than a footbath, one stroke end to end! The outside pool is portrayed as a lagoon surrounded by palm trees, in reality it is lost in the middle of a grey concrete yard with a few trees around the hotel perimeter. It’s all functional but there is nothing attractive about it at all.

If you are looking for a clean hotel with easy access to a very good beach then the Rey Don Jamie fits the bill but if you are expecting a 4 star experience which corresponding service and restaurant you will be disappointed.
