So we booked as a family of 4 with 2 kids under 10 yrs. in anticipation of a themed holiday packed with fun. Wrong! Let me make this clear: It is not a real themed hotel. Only some of the hotel has been done up and the rest of it ( a lot of the rooms) are old and smelly. Our room was gross. Dirty sofa, stained mattresses and smelly pillows. Yuk! Now, I agree that the pool looks good and the Pirate show was entertaining for kids, but the unfortunate thing was that most of the other holiday makers staying here were the dregs of society. I am not being rude, but when you end up avoiding the swimming pool from midday onwards purely because of the foul language and drunk antics of fellow guests, then it's a bad day. I caught young teenagers relieving themselves in the garden one night and we lost count of how many rows we heard between couples. Also thought the bar staff need to buck their ideas up and actually start serving their guests with a bit of
courtesy; I imagine expecting a smile is pushing it too far. Having said that the reception day staff were very polite and professional. Overall this could be a good place if they finished it, but it's not somewhere we would want to go back to anyway.

Dear Irish10534,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post us a review, we take good note of your feedback. Our apologies if you found the manners of other guests were inappropriate.
Pirates Village is a very family oriented hotel and put great effort in keeping a family appropriate environment for the wide variety of nationalities that we host. Those teenagers that you are mentioning were tracked down and invited out of the hotel if they repeated this action.

Regarding the bar staff, you are right, there is no excuse for the lack of courtesy even though August is the peak of our season and there workload is tough. We have mostly received good comments on the bar’s staff but we will look into it and take action upon your comments as smiling is a must.

Overall, we really hope you had a great stay at the beautiful resort of Santa Ponsa and we hope you give Pirates Village another chance.

Best regards,

The Gran Isla Hotels Management.

We booked our stay at Pirates Village direct and organised our own flights. We took a taxi from the airport direct to the hotel which only took 30 mins costing €40. On arrival the receptionist (male) checked us in. He really needs to work on his greeting of guest, after a good few hours travel it would have been nice to received a better welcome. The hotel looks great from the outside really well done and the reception area is fantastic looking. The theme continues through the bar and the restaurant.

Options: We choose the self catering option which worked out really well for us. I know they offer an all inclusive option which might suit guest that don't intend to leave the hotel all that much. We prefer to get out an about. They offer a kids club daily but we did not use this during our stay.

Rooms: The apartments are fine, they where clean but need updating. We where disappointed to see that our apartment had a massive whole in the bedroom door where a previous guest had obviously put their foot through it!!! The door had not been changed before we checked in. Poor form really as it does not look good and also is pure hazard for small children as they keep trying to place there hands inside with sharp wooden edges. We were on the ground floor and the balcony had a safety guard so that the kids cannot leave the apartment. The pool view was nice and there are canopies that can be lowered when the sun gets too hot. The apartment had a new flat screen tv with loads of channels on it. It had BBC channels and kids channels in English which is great.

The Pool: AMAZING!!!! we loved it......... It looks great, plenty to do, loads of slides and different pool depts for all ages. The pirates attack show was great fun and our small kids loved the excitement of it. The pool gets sun all day so it was lovely and warm and there was plenty of sun beds available all day. This hotel will suit families with children of all ages.

The town: The beach and the town centre are only a short walk away from the hotel 10mins. Plenty of bars and places to eat. Buses to other towns are available just a short walk from the hotel also.

We really really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The children loved it, they loved how close we were to the beach and the pool and pirate show, discos at night were fantastic for families. I know the room had some issues but I believe they are in the process of upgrading these too. We will return again!!!

Went all inclusive for a week here and found the food quality well below par. Tasteless dishes and over cooked cheap meat. The dining room was always busy and we always had to wait to get served and twice had to wait just to get a table. They obviously need more staff! Our room was old and very worn so we tried to just use it as somewhere to sleep and shower and spent most of the day down at the pool or outside the hotel. They have marketed this hotel as a theme type of hotel and we booked it thinking it would be a big impressive complex. It is in fact just a smallish regular hotel with yes, a great exterior but little else, apart from an enthusiastic entertainment team. To be honest it isn't fair to market it as a themed hotel as even the rooms do not have any type of pirate theme going on. I'm giving 2 stars due the entertainers around the pool who tried their best to keep the little ones happy, otherwise it would have been 1 star.

Dear Kelly N,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, we really appreciate.

We try to provide an international buffet that is to the satisfaction of the great majority of our guests taking into account the many nationalities that stayed at Pirates Village. We are sorry that the buffet was not to your satisfaction and we will look into it.

We have had a very busy year and the All Inclusive was very popular, which might explain why it was very busy, however we extended the service time so we could manage to serve everyone properly. The issue in any hotel is when all guests want to have dinner at the very same time. We hope you understand.

We have marketed Pirates Village as a themed hotel because it is, however if you had entered our website you would have seen that for now only the public areas have been themed and how the apartments look like. We are very sorry you did not check the pictures of the apartments before booking. However it is in our agenda to theme the apartments as well in the near future.

Overall, we hope your family had a enjoyable stay at Pirates Village and at the beautiful resort of Santa Ponsa.

Again, thank you for leaving us your feedback. At Gran Isla Hotels we are always trying to improve our services as to provide our guests with the best summer holiday experience possible.

Best regards,

The Gran Isla Hotels Management

We spent a week in pirates village (2 children 5 and 7 and two adult's) . The hotel exterior is brilliant and started the holiday off with great excitement! We had a one bed apt with was ample for a family. It also had a full kitchen which is unusual for all inclusive but excellent as it meant we had a fridge to keep drinks cool. The cleaners came regularly and the rest of the hotel was kept clean throughout our stay. The pool is a kids paradise. Slides, ample shallow areas and pirates running around causing havoc! We got sunbeds no problem everyday and most seats were in view of the whole pool. The food was nice, always fresh and plenty of choice for both the kids and adults. The all inclusive menu was good, including pool snacks and a small choice of ice cream and lollies. The service at times was poor and could be waiting to order for 20 minutes and if you went to the bar to order they would sent you away! The entertainment was great for the kids, pirate shows, magicians and even the pirates invading breakfast. The animation team were brilliant. . I would high recommend this hotel especially those with a young family!

If I was reviewing the staff or the pool area this would have been a 5, but since I have to take into account everything I can only really give it a 3.

First off - the pool is amazing! My 3.5 yr old daughter loved it! It was her first holiday abroad and she thought everything about it was amazing! The waiters were also fantastic, 1 of the men in particular took the time to make a fuss over my little boy every day - I wish I could remember his name but he was lovely! They were worked really long hours too and he told me he got 1 day off per fortnight!! Some of the bar staff were not so good and were quite rude, but they were probably knackered!

The room was nothing fancy, but it did it's job for a week.

The food I have to say was not great! In my opinion the dining area was not big enough to cater for all inclusive. There was not enough tables/chairs and there was not enough space to put all the food. A few people have mentioned it being samey and they were right!

Some of the people that were there when we went were vile! So for this reason I could never return. My 2 children loved this place so we made the best of it. There was plenty of shops to see in the surrounding area and the beach was just a few minute walk away.

I don't envy the staff that run the children's club. They are always around! early till late with a trail of children following if they dare move anywhere. The child friendly hard sell was the only bit that was on the ball and my three loved every second. The redesigned old style hotel still has at least half to do, so the reception and pool is all new and the rest is twenty years young. Although our room was ok in size it lacked any chance of having a comfortable sleep. The food looked good and there was always the quantity it was just the actual taste, maybe some of the budget would have been better put to use for some better ingredients. We felt that the children were well catered for but our holiday was dull, dull, dull. The beach is good and you can still swim if you're made of strong stuff. Lots of local shops for souvenirs and coffee in the sun.

October Midterm break we booked 3 apartments for 4 adults 2 children all inclusive.

On arrival and all through our stay the lady receptionist was extremely friendly, courteous and helpful (top marks there) Room's clean and basic, just need upgrading. For a hotel so big you definitely need more than 1 toilet in your downstairs reception/restaurant area.

The hotel was fully booked while we were there and the restaurant staff and bar staff were rushed off their feet, from morning until late at night and always with a smile. The food was plentiful but at times the main meat dishes were below par, I think due to the volume of customers and quality of ingredients.

The pools are fantastic our children loved every part of them. The Pirates what can we say FANTASTIC a huge effort each and every time they were around. Loved the scary tunnel.

The Children's Club/Entertainers WOW now this is were ample praise needs to be given, 110% each and every day, Simon the manager a great people person with kids and adults . Robert kept all going through the day and evening a great guy :) Angie worked hard with the children. We are keeping Ellie for last, as she is the best asset Pirates Village has, and we would come back next year in the hope that she will be on the staff list, above and beyond caring to the children, kept them well engaged throughout the day and night, our children keep talking about what a fun time they had in the kids club with her (they didn't want to leave) She made this the best holiday ever for them.
