“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2009

We booked to stay for a week at the Plazamar apartments and couldn't have been happier. The apartment was adequately sized for 2 of us (the room sleeps 4 and would have been a squeeze with 4 adults), with 2 single beds and a sofa bed with another pullout bed underneath.
The Kitchen area (one end of the room) had a hob with 3 rings (no oven) and a fridge freezer, and adequate cutlery/crockery/pans/utensils.
The bathroom was one of the best we have had at a Mediterranean resort - very clean, simple, inoffensive colourscheme, good shower (plenty of hot water), no mould, good shower curtain.
We had a ground floor apartment (1003) overlooking the pool, but separated from it by a hedge). The pools are great for families with a shallow pool and an 8-shaped main pool with a deep end and a shallow end - with a lifeguard 10am-7pm.
As an added benefit, the lovely beach is only 7 mins walk away.
After reading reports of other apartments elsewhere, and from our own experience, we are fearful of bugs - mosquitos and ants, but we had no instances of either.
The aircon worked well and was welcomed!
The apartments are cleaned every day except Weds and Sun.
The reception staff were excellent and friendly.
There is a definite "family" feel to the place - not a "youths" hostel (I sound so old!).
We loved it and would go back tomorrow given half a chance.

We all disliked this hotel big time. Our expections were high after reading the glowing reveiws here but upon arrival all expections were destroyed. The "hotel" iteslf is in serious need of a total refurbishment and believe me it is a dump and no more than a dump. No minimum standard in this "hotel". Its the first time that even my two teenagers complained about the smell and hygiene of a place. Never again. Even if they paid for our stay and flights and I am serious about it. Do not stay here. You would be better off sleeping on the beach. If in santa ponsa, visit Mrs. Murphys kitchen and crocodile restaurant for a great dinner and great service.

Travellers are raving about these Santa Ponsa hotels

We have just arrived home from a great holiday staying at the Plazamar apartments in Santa Ponsa! We to had a nightmare first day when on arrival at the Plazamar at 11pm we were told that there was no room at the hotel and that arangements had been made for us to stay at the Sun Beach hotel for the two weeks. Upon arrival at the Sun Beach we quickly discovered that it was a club 18 - 30 hotel and spent the worst night of our lives having to put up with bottles being thrown at our apartment windows all night long with constant shouting and swearing. To sum it up, there was a number of 'Gentlemens' clubs directly under this hotel!! We went back to the Plazamar early next morning along with our luggage and having complained to the manager a room was allocated that afternoon. There were a number of people arriving who experienced the same problem and we are going to contact the travel operator to establish if its an issue with them or the hotel chain. From hear on the holiday was brilliant. The apartment we were given was very clean and equiped with all you need. The pool area is very clean and is well designed to keep an eye on the little ones. The bar serves a good variety of food and drinks and was very clean and well maintained. Staff are exceptionally friendly and the male receptionist along with being very entertaining is very helpfull and could not do enough for you. There is a free kids club at the Plazamar and the childrens entertainer Alex is brilliant with the kids and does a good variety of activities with the children. There is evening entertainment at the apartments on a daily basis which was very good if you decide to stay local. There is a sister hotel across the road called the Jutlandia whereby you can use the facilities at any time. The location of these apartments is perfect. It was very quiet in the night and the nearest supermarket was a two minute walk away, the beach about ten minutes. It took the same time to walk to the busy shops, bars and restuarants whereby you had ample selection to choose from. The local restuarants were very clean and the food was very good. There are a number of bars within the resort that provide entertainment for the children along with staff who monitor the children. These included bars with bouncey castles, trampolines and toys and games which are either free or one or two euros for the night. To sum it up, ideal location for families, very enjoyable stay at the Plazamar and Santa Ponsa has something for everyone. Already looking to return next year!

When we first arrived, i was very hot and the receptionist (miriam) told us she did not have room for us...we stood there for over 3 hours waiting for her to find us a room. She told us the hotel gets overbooked commonly and we ended up sating at Jutlandia for the first day of our stay. We argued the next day and we got our room and the manager (saskia) gave us a weeks worth of free eating at the very expensive hotel restaurant and free use of the room safe. When we checked out, we got 10 euros as it was the deposit, but we did not pay a deposit!!!!

But overall, the stay was excellent...staff there are very friendly especially the brothers Carlos and Javi with whom we had many funny conversations with!!
Cleaners only change towels if you leave them on the floor though. Anyway the room was very clean and has a balcony from where you can see the bar/restaurant
The room has air con but there is no TV. ONly one room that has a TV by the reception

All I can says is wow, what a place! I too must have been staying at the Plazamar around the same time as TheatreSouth who's review is below. And boy, ain't he right about those games. We too witnessed the sunbed game that started as early as 6 some morning's. Although we were only spectators in this game, just as much fun could be had just watching the various outcomes of the sunbed 'pinching'. Surely this should be a sport included in the London 2012 games??
And as for the wonderful 'Pool Gymnast" Amber, well, she was there during my stay as well. The shapes that girl threw in the air were nothing short of tremendous - the chanting fans surely thought so!
As for the actual apartments, they were spacious, clean and in a very reasonable location - 5 minutes walk from the center of town. And if you do make the walk you'll be welcomed by a host of glorious restaurants and fabulous gift shops - we too favoured the glorious Crocadillos - although Fat Sam's came a close second. The chinese buffet however should be avoided at all costs - especially if you don't want to have a close inspection of the Plazamar's WC's - spotless though they were.
All-in-all a thoroughly lovely location and perfectly lovely apartments. If Hans Christian Anderson had visited he would have surely declared: 'Wonderful, wonderful Santa Ponsa!'
PS TheatreSouth, what was the apron your brother bought? I saw one but it wasn't something I'd wear whilst carving the Christmas Turkey!

We had a week in Plazamar apts in July, as a last minute getaway.... we were certainly not prepared for the fun that was to prevail.

Our room was clean and large, with lovely air conditioning (which we needed after the daily games). Games started very early, with the morning event of "who could reserve the sun beds the fastest" - this game sometimes started as early as 6 am ! - If you were lucky enough to win some beds, you were in for a day of non stop fun. Keeping the beds was also a game of skill and strategy ! During the afternoons, there was entertainment a plenty - usually involving throwing balls in the air and children running, screaming and diving after them. We were very lucky to have extra entertainment courtesy of a lovely young lass called "amber" who delighted us daily with a display of water gymnastics, whilst her adoring fans chanted her name ! (during her display her mum would usually go around playing the 'reserving beds' game whilst the unsuspecting spectators cheers on !). Alternatively you can miss out on all of this excitement and head to the beach 5 mins away !

The evenings are nice, the town is a short walk away and there are several nice little eateries (including our favourite Crocodillos!) - the shops all sell the same type of tat, but there are a few interesting items, including a lovely apron which my brother bought. Its pretty quiet after about 11, we used to sit out and play cards till late, but it was very relaxing.
