“Winter at Sol Jandia Mar”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2014

Very hilly, no good if you have walking difficulty. Apartments were adequate. We stayed All Inclusive and the food is good. Mainly German Clientelle. Entertainment every night but WIFi expensive as are the computers. We didn't have good weather and found that 9 days was more than enough. Only 1 Irish bar where we could watch sport - others had the sport but were for German speaking people. Wonderful beaches but it was not hot and sunny, so rather limited on things to do. Tele not good enough for a place when you need to stay at base.

Room Tip: No Idea, it was too hilly to walk around. They did their best to find me a room not too far from the...

We had paid extra for a balcony and sea view. We did have a balcony, and we could just see the sea, but it was not what we had expected. First night so tired after the trip that we slept okay. However couldn't sleep second night because of air-conditioning of a building in front of the hotel. When we complained about the air-conditioning we were moved from the Palomas to the Aguilas. Here we had a much better sea view and peace and quiet.
There are no lifts in this hotel. There are some ramps, but you cannot totally avoid having to use stairs. Half the apartments are up spiral staircases.
No microwave. No Kettle, although they will hire you one for 50cents a day. However when we asked they did not have any available. You have to ask in reception for the TV remote control which requires a 10 Euro deposit. Don't bother, as there is only one English channel - BBC world News, and this gets a bit repetitive.
We were self catering. We tried one snack from the pool bar - it was disgusting, and bought a cocktail from the pool bar which was overpriced. Lots of people here on all inclusive, and it was the smell of the their BBG which got me going to the bar and ordering a hot dog. Unfortunately what we got didn't come from the BBQ. I think it came from a tin.
They have entertainment on all the time, but we didn't join in and it didn't disturb us at all.
Lots of loungers by the pools.Very handing location for town, shops and beach.

Room Tip: There are three groups of apartments.Try to avoid Palomas and to get in Aquilas or Dogos

We don't expect 5 star luxury but to get 3 stars for us a Hotel needs three things, it should be clean, friendly and provide good food. The Sol Jandia Mar gave us these three things. I think our appartment although obviously fairly old was the cleanest I have ever had on the islands. Someone even came round after the cleaners to check, even running there finger along the top of Picture Frames.
There was a good selection at both the breakfast and evening buffet and it was always possible to get a table whatever the time which has not been the case in some other hotels I have stayed in. Were there any negatives, yes a couple. We didn't get very lucky with the position of our appartment which was P112 on the ground floor facing a wall with large fans running all day. But every Resort has appartments in good and poor positions, and the resort was full. Some Food items could have been hotter but I'm being picky, the food was in General, very good.
Would I visit again, yes certainly, as long as we didn't get appartment P110/111/112.

We were not pleased with our holiday in February 2014 at Sol Jandia Mar.
We were initially offered a room with a 'Sea View' - but you had to peer over the extremely noisy air conditioning plant to get a view of a sliver of sea. After some arguments with the reception staff we were changed to a different apartment.
The weather was rather wet the week we were there - now the hotel cannot do anything about the weather, but the rain did bring out the fact that there was very little to do apart from the beach. There were very few activities laid on. The evening entertainment was in German. The pool was very cold.
We took the half-board option, which allowed us to have a buffet breakfast and evening meal. The salads each day were fine, but the hot meals were very monotonous. Every day there was greasy fatty bacon and eggs, along with reheated chips left overfrom the previous evening. The evening meals were much the same every day. The food itself reflected German tastes with savoury meats and cheeses in abundance. The evening meals did not include any drink of any kind - not even water.
We will not be returning to Sol Jandia Mar again

Room Tip: Rooms with sea views are not a good idea

I generally never write critical reviews but took an exception on this one as I think they really deserve it. Having been to the Canaries Island now 6 times in span of 4 years, this hotel is worth giving a miss.
They claim some many things on their website and non of them is true.

The room were dirty, toilet was so dirty and had leftovers from previous guests when we checked it. We asked for another room they would not let us have it saying their hotel was fully booked.
Yet I saw many rooms unoccupied.

I was told by Mgmt before I booked it that their children's swim pool is heated during winter but the water was cold and my 5 yr boy just could not enjoy the pool. When I complained to reception they took no heed and when I asked to speak to their Gen. Manager they ignored my repeated requests claiming he was busy.

Their website says rooms are cleaned & linen changed twice a week, none of this actually took place and it was only after complaining did they get someone to change the linen & clean the room which happened only once during our stay.

Website also states Children's Mini Club Activities, all they had was a event at 8.30 PM for children daily except Sun. and during day it was more for adults than children! I hardly saw any children participating at 8.30 PM events. Obviously they got their timings wrong, instead of having children's activities earlier in the day or early evening and night entertainment for adults, they had it the wrong way around!

The location is good but the service is very poor & staff are rude & don't want to listen to you. I don't think they like English guests. We the only English guest as all others were Germans & other EU nationalities.

I would not recommend this hotel, it's a hotel from hell. Avoid it even though its on a good location but they were many other hotels nearby so you do have a choice.

Booked directly with the hotel (two weeks full board) and got it about £100 less than the cost shown by internet travel agent. Best rooms are those with a pool view, but not at the ground level (poor view over hedge). Access to floors one and two of all rooms is by rear stairs - so not suitable for disabled access. Very poor entertainment on an evening, but this may not matter. Food & drink was a good average for the price. Trouble with 'full board' is you tend to eat and drink too much!

Room Tip: Pool view, first or second floor

Well, did not expect too much.
Two room apartment with tiny kitchen and bathroom.
Paid extra to get direct view to sea side.
Rooms were ok, cleaning moderate. In hotel rules said bed linens to be changed twice a week, none was done if we did not ask. Also was stated that towels to be changed 3 times a week, same happened as with bed linens.
In princip hotel was ok, no problem with that.
Don't expect too much out from their kitchen....sometimes good, sometimes not, after 1 weeks got bored as everything was tasting all the time same!
If your neighboor is having TV set loud, you'll here it.
No noice isolation.
