After hearing reviews about this hotel from other Brits, my boyfriend and I were a little sceptical at first...
However, we had an amazing stay at the IFA Beach Hotel.
Yes we were stared at on the first night we arrived and yes we were the only British couple there for the first few days but quite frankly none of that bothered us at all considering the hotel is of such an amazing standard!

The hotel is less than 20 minutes away from the airport which made us the first stop on our transfer, we were the only two to get off the coach which is something we really aren't used to! But we were so happy and pleasantly surprised, from the outside the building looks really grand and modern and many of the others on our transfer were commenting on how nice it looked! The inside of the hotel is as good as the outside, modern, glass fronted, light, airy and a bit posh - which is nice for a three star hotel! We arrived rather late (10.30pm), so the receptionist wasn't as helpful as what we have been used to at other hotels. We didn't get shown to our room, no map and not even directions on how to get to our room! But to be honest, it was all really quite self explanatory so it wasn't too much hassle! When we got to our room we were really pleased, incredibly modern, spacious, balcony, decent sized shower room with all modern fittings! The cleanliness of the whole hotel was 5 star! The one criticism of the room we had was the bed being really firm and only having one pillow, but we found brand-new extra bedding stored in the top part of a cupboard which alleviated the pillow issue!

The pool bar was lovely to sit at in the day time and evenings. The all inclusive drinks were of a good standard, the cocktails come from a machine so were very strong, the local beer was great and the wine wasn't too bad either! However, I did have to try the special cocktails (the ones you have to pay for between 4-5 euros) simply because they had sparklers and decoration streaming out of them - these were actually really nice as mixed properly by a human...not a machine! Not many people seemed to sit in the main reception/lobby area where there was a bar and we barely ever saw bar staff at that one so we just stayed round the pool area!
One criticism I have is of the all inclusive drinks lasting from 11am-11pm, when I read this before I thought it sounded like a long time but when you are actually there you find yourself getting really thirsty in the morning before drinks are available and then when you are enjoying your evening and chatting to new-found friends 11pm comes round rather quickly!!! However, there is an on-site shop where you can get all essentials, so we would often get a paper and a bottle of water every morning!

The food for breakfast, lunch and dinner was of a really good standard and was served in the only restaurant in the hotel with the option of sitting outside as well.
The selection of food on offer was like no other hotel I have stayed in. During our stay, we had chicken, pork, gammon, beef, turkey, fish, pastas, potato dishes, lots of vegetables, pizza, chips, chicken nuggets a massive salad and fruit bar as well as lots of pastry deserts and ice cream! Breakfast selection was also great from continental to a full fry-up! You can also get snacks from the pool bar during the day time 11am-12pm which often consisted of bread rolls/sandwiches filled with ham/cheese/salami and they also had pizza/chips/chicken nuggets as well as fresh fruit. You are also able to get snacks (bread rolls/sandwiches) late at night from 10pm-11pm from the pool bar also, which we did a couple of times but you have to ask the bar staff personally to go and get it for you, it isn't just laid out for you to help yourself.

The weather during our stay was great, a little cloudy towards the end but we still had temperatures of 30 degrees and went through four bottles of suntan lotion in a week! The pools are really nice, clean and refreshing. They have two 'jacuzzi' style parts in the pool with jets in which are nice and relaxing but they aren't heated. We never struggled to get a decent sun bed during our whole stay! The main activities that are run by the lone fitness instructor consisted of water aerobics, water polo, aqua balance and yoga/pilates which were all good fun. The beach is literally on the doorstep of this hotel, you can access it by walking through the pool bar. The sea is lovely, not too cold and great sand - barely any seaweed in the water which (if your like me) is a bonus!

There are a fair few things to do around Gran Canaria which the hotel gives you good information on, we went on this holiday purely to relax so I can't say what the activities are like but we heard from others that Aqualand and the zoo's are pretty good! We did venture into Playa del Ingles for an evening with some friends which was a great laugh if you like having a few drinks in the bars and watching the local drag acts! It was only 12euros to Playa del Ingles and back as it is only a 10 minute drive away! Also heard that the bus service is really reliable and cheap!

*The hotel wifi is free in the main reception area, however you need to pay a fee to gain access to it elsewhere. The room safe was only 12 euros for 1 week which was really reasonable and worth having*

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to have a relaxing break in the sun, the location is really chilled out and calm and there is always the option of travelling to the more lively parts of Gran Canaria via bus/taxi if that is what you're looking for.

PS - don't be put off if you're younger, we thought that being an adult only hotel and from reviews we had read that there would only be older families/couples but there was a real variety of ages!

4 of us (2 couples) stayed here for a week from 18 July 2014.

Location - 15 min from airport, 5 min taxi to playa del ingles (€5), the hotel is right on the Beach. Couple of bars/shops in San Augustin but not much, very quiet resort.

Rooms - great, modern bedrooms, tastefully decorated. We requested a room high up and got one. Showers were a bit temperamental going hot to cold sometimes. Beds a little hard but got used to it after a night or two.

Food - all meals were buffet but always a good selection of freshly cooked items too e.g omelette at breakfast, steak at dinner. A little repetitive but plenty for even fussy eaters! Snacks in the morning and afternoon were good - sandwiches, cakes, fruit.

Drinks - tropical is the local beer, self service in the daytime, try a vodka sun in the pool bar at night!

Entertainment - a bit basic but ok for something going on in the background during the evening. The pop vs rock night was particularly good, as was the Spanish dancing.

Not many Brits here but that didn't really bother us.

Overall - a very good 3 star, vast majority of staff were outstanding and very accommodating, pool area was brilliant - and not too cold!

first of all do not book the all inclusive you will be dissapointed. for all inclusive you only get a very limited variety of drinks and if you wand a cocktail ( you have 4 options included ) it will come from an machine and it will taste mainly like toothpaste mixed with water. if you want a good cocktail that is not included in the all inclusive package you will still have to pay 4.50 euro so all inclusive is a bad ideea.
second major issue is the staffs friendliness or better said the lack off it. we have incountered snappy and rude employees both at the dinner buffet and att the pool bar. they made us feel unwellcomed and unconfortable. one of the waters at the pool bar grabbed my friends hand and yanked it off the juice machine yelling att him that the all inclusive was over 2 minutes after 11 . we were shocked. and this is not the only example of how rude the staff was.

My husband and I stay at IFA few days. We got engaged in Gran Canaria so in general my stay here was unforgettable :). We didn't have breakfast included which I found weird for the price we paid, but there was a restaurant right next to the hotel and it was very good for cheap prices.

Overall we had a great stay at this hotel the pool area was amazing so clean we always found a sunbed even if we came to the pool later in the day.
The food was nice we went out for a change a few nights but hotel food was nothing to complain about. The snack food went pretty quickly so you had to be quick to get it.
The staff were lovely always smiling most of them. Very helpful when we were looking for somewhere to go on the night. The rooms are spotless clean, modern, great bathroom and a English movie channel which had some great films on 24/7 it came in handy for something to watch while getting ready.
The entertainment was good most nights just a singer but they were always good the spanish dancers one night were excellent!!!
Downsides.....
The beds were very hard I did get used to them after a few days
The german guests pointed at us, talked, stared and generally made us feel uncomfortable, dont even think about laughing or all eyes will be on you.
The towels in the bathroom were really small fine for us but I imagine if we were bigger it would of been a problem.
Remember your all inclusive stops at 12pm the day you leave we didnt relised this so were not allowed any food or drink from 12 til 10pm when we got picked up. It would be useful if you could pay extra to keep on your all inclusive.

Excellent Hotel. Very clean throughout. Food plentiful. Although if you dined later, food tended to be only Luke warm. Microwaves would not go amiss. As with most hotels we have visited, mattresses hard. Not enough sun beds for everyone unless you got to pool early and put towel down, as our German friends always do.

We had amazing time in IFA Beach hotel. Location, value, rooms were perfect. Just a little minus for service in the restaurant, many times we get our drinks after we finished dinner and there was no specific waiter sering us during same evening ( who can I give tip to?) One of the hotel's description was non smoking and people can smoke just in designeted area, unfortunately people were smoking on pool's area where deckchairs are very close to each other and also on the restaurant's terrace during serving meals. I prefer smelling food not a ciggarette's smoke.
