“Great Hotel - Great Staff!”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

We booked on the basis of the reviews on TripAdvisor and we were not dissapointed!

We have done all inclusive holidays before and we are realistic in our expectations - so although the reviews were good, we were still a little apprehensive. However, when we arrived, we were immediately struck by how quiet it was (due to the adults only policy) which was great for us. We were greeted by friendly staff; we arrived early so as our room wasn't ready we were told to get some lunch and they would look after our luggage. The food is buffet style and each night there was something different, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, Italian and also a range of salads and meats - all good quality and standard. The drinks were standard draught wine and beers, however the cocktail bar in the evening prepared fresh fruit cocktails such as Dauquiris and Mojitos that were simply stunning. It is not often that we contemplate returning to the same place, but this place is worth it. The rooms are fair sized with contemporary styles throughtout and there was a dressing gown and slippers for us which was a nice touch.

The evening entertainment is mediocre (background accoustic style) but this is not something that usually interests us anyway. The pool area always had available beds (we went July 2012) and there is a 50/50 split between British and Netherland guests. There is a Spa onsite that offers a good range of products (mud massage / hot stone massage etc), however, in my opinion it seemed expensive - a basic massage started at around 45E. Special mention to the staff who were consistently friendly and helpful :-)

Had a lovely week at the Sunprime. We booked through Lowcost holidays and stayed on an all inclusive basis. We found the food and drinks to be of a high standard. However our room still had a fully equipped kitchen. We did find the all inclusive bar a little confusing though, one night we were served drinks up to 1am, the following night we were told we would have to pay for drinks after 11.30pm, we didn't see any notices regarding this anywhere. The evening entertainment was very low key (dull) and would have been better off just to have some background music. The rooms were cleaned every day and it was up to you whether you had your sheets or towels changed (you had to put them in a washing basket if you wanted them changed.) They supplied slippers and robes as well as pool/ beach towels which was a nice touch, although you had to pay 2.50 euros if you wanted clean ones. The pools and sunbed areas were clean and tidy and there always seemed to be enough sunbeds, although I don't know if this would always be the case. The staff were generally very friendly. The beach courtesy bus ran hourly to the beach in the mornings, and hourly back up to 5.30pm. It was quite a long walk to the beach otherwise, and cost about 4 euros each way if you went by cab. A nice touch was the packed lunches that the hotel supplied if you were going to the beach for the day. They were enormous and really handy! All the rooms faced the pool.

What an amazing holiday, the pool was beautiful and clean, the staff were so friendly....
The food was lovely with plenty of choice, a lot better than any other all inclusive that I've stayed in!
The entertainment is very average, but it can be what you make of it... We were up dancing any making the most of it!!
Plenty of cocktails to choice from, in fact too many to try them all!!
I would stay here again, and hope to return next year!

We have just returned from 2 weeks, 21st july-5th August, self catering, in the sunprime hotel and was quite disappointed with the hotel, because not only did the rooms not have a toaster, our room was overlooking a road and the night time entertainment was very poor! we had to go out every night to find some other entertainment! thankfully it was just a 5 minute walk to the ymbo centre and there were always taxis outside to take you to the kasbah for more clubs and better food. there are four pools, all very clean (as was the whole hotel) but you were only allowed lilos in one of the smaller pools and same with ball games. at 12 every day there was aqua aerobics for 20 minutes, we looked forward to this just to hear some music! as the pool is extremely quite, and after a few days it started to become boring, this was one thing in which also let us down and other couples also agreed with us saying there was no atmosphere around the pool. There were a lot of sunbeds around all 4 pools, enough for everyone, but you had to be up at about 8:30 to put your towels straight out because otherwise you will be left with the really bad sunbeds which were saggy and a few were really uncomfortable because of the bar at the back. the receptionists were very friendly, apart from one who was extremely rude and called our rep a liar! and would not give us a courtesy room, as our flight was not until 23:55 and we had to checkout at 12. this was very disappointing that they did not have any for us to use or would not allow us to keep on our room. luckily another couple let us use their room. if you want to hire a car out there like we done, we recommended the rent a car place which is next to the spar, at first we weren't too sure, but when our rep told us she hires her car from there every week we gave it a go and had a Mazda 2 for 3 days for €12 a day, whereas the hotel wanted to charge €30 a day! The maids were amazing! they came everyday, even when we didn't leave our room until about 2! and they also cleaned the dishes for you. I would also recommend you taking a taxi or driving to the local resort of meloneras, which is a 5 star resort! their are a number of shops, bars and restaurants along the sea front and we found the food to be the best! and not too expensive either (€12.95 for steak, Chips and veg), as the food in the yumbo centre as Kasbah are not the best (do not eat the burgers in the restaurants in the Kasbah!) finally, I would also recommend you go to sparkles drag show in the yumbo centre, it's happy hour from about 9-10:30, then the show starts... very funny! if you do not like to be picked on, i would suggest you sit near the back!

Stayed at this hotel for a week with 2 friends. We could not of asked for more, fantastic food, beautiful hotel and great drinks. Very close to the town and beach but to be honest we were more then happy to just stay around the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to everyone who wants a quiet, relaxing and peaceful and child free holiday.

Reception:
Very swift check in and friendly staff who were happy to help with any questions about the area (bus stops etc). The charge for the safe in the room was very reasonable.

Room:
We stayed in room 218. I was instantly impressed with the cleanliness and presentation of the room. There was plenty of size in the wardrobe for two people, with several large drawers.
The balcony had a great view over two of the pools, the dramatic mountainous landscape of Gran Canaria and across to the left was a sea view. The sun remained on the balacony until after 7pm, so a great room to request if you are a sun lover!
The beds were extremely comfy. Since arriving home I have been on the hunt for some new pillows that are as comfortable as those at the hotel... they were perfect!

Bar and food:
Good dining area, with space between tables and a nice view across the pools and mountainous landscape.

We always stay A.I but rarely each lunch and dinner at the hotel; However, Sunprime changed this! The breakfasts were delicious, with a selection of eggs, cheses, cold and cooked meats (including salmon), fruit (try the fresh fruit salad - very nice), pastries, breads and pancakes. Tea and coffee was served at your table.

We had a few lunches and found there to be a good range of food. I am a pescetarian and found that this hotel provided the best range of fish and vegetarian dishes for me. The chef's salads are very tasty, and there are a range of meats, fish &seafood and pasta. Wine, beer and soft drinks are available for self service and there wasn't ever a queue.

In the evening, there was a wide range of food again, with the occassional themed night (we dined at the hotel on the Mexican and Chinese night). Each evening there was a soup, starter style foods (king prawns, olives & cheese, calamari, jalapeno poppers etc), and a selection of pasta dishes, several meat dishes and approx two fish dishes. The desserts were great - try the creme caramels (the look like little bowls of custard, but when you pick it up you will see the caramel).

The bar area was stylishly designed and provided a good spot for pre-dinner drinks. We sampled every cocktail on the AI menu between us (over seven nights) and we liked each one; the cosmopolitan and sidecar were our favourites. We also tried a couple of the cocktails that you have to pay for and found them worth the money - Cava and strawberries was a nice evening treat.
After dinner we took our drinks out to the seats by the pool area, but ensured we took our glasses back to the bar afterwards as you are not 'supposed' to take drinks out there, although people did.

In the day, the hotel supermarket has sandwiches and salad pots in the fridge and a selection of cakes in the afternoon. Again, you can help yourself to wine, beer and soft drinks, and can ask for juices and spirits behind the counter.

Hotel and surroundings:
We only used the beach pool, as after experiencing it on the afternoon that we arrived we knew that we had experienced pool perfection! At first, I thought that it was too quiet but then I settled in to relaxation mood and can't imagine ever going back to a noisy pool. Heaven!

The other pools looked pleasing, but had more sun loungers around them and we preferred the spaciousness of the beach pool.

We used the spa after lunch one afternoon to escape from the heat and found the experience worthwhile for 5 euros each. You are given a robe and slippers and the changing rooms have free decleor samples! There is a sauna, experience shower, cold bucket shower (instead of a plunge pool), and the spa pool which looks out on to the outdoor pool area.

Local area:
We walked to the beach several times and it took 15-20mins depending on which section of the beach we headed to. We also walked to Maspalomas twice, which took about 50mins along the seafront - a great and popular walk, but there isn't any shade for a large duration so take an umbrella or go before/after the midday sun.

In the evening we got a taxi to the seafront (ask for Ciao Ciao at the beach front) where there is a range of restaurants and bars (can recommend Gorro Blanco, been to Gran Canaria a few times and always eat there - high quality of food). From here, it is a quick walk up to the Kasbah area where there are more bars and restaurants, with locals dancing to live music in the square!
The taxi is 3euros.

Overall, a great experience and we are already looking to book again for next year.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 218 and would request this room again.

We are a 20/21 couple and throughly enjoyed our time in this hotel.

On arrival to the hotel we were greeted by a lovely blonde haired lady in the middle of the day. She was both friendly and spoke brilliant English. When we got to our room it was cold, which was brill, and extremely clean. In the bed were 2 bath robes and 2 beach towels. There were also bath towels so there was no real need to take our own towels. There was also coat hangers in the room, a large tv (although no English channels) and an iron. We also had a balcony on the secon floor looking onto the pool (all rooms have pool views!) the balcony also had sun loungers which were great to soak up the sun.

The food was very much the same every morning, dinner and tea. However, although it is the same... It was very nice! We ate in the hotel every night but 1 night.

The pool was extremely clean although there was no music and only a fitness class at 12 in 1 of the pools. This was fine though because the weather was so nice and the whole hotel was extremely peaceful :)

The evening entertainment was diabolical! We stayed in the hotel for one night listening to a man on his keyboard and a woman murder good songs. Never again! We found a brilliant English bar called the windmill that had strongbow on tap and all beer was cheap. They also did a pub quiz and bingo! This bar is situated in the grande chaparral which is about a 5 min walk from the hotel! The yumbo was also a very good night out however after being chatted up by a woman we didn't go again... The place we most enjoyed was the kasbah. This is for younger people looking for a good night out. It has an MTV bar, a linekers bar and a pacca... But that was awful... Smaller than the dining area in the hotel! Go on the pub crawl! It's great me and my boyfriend went on it and for €10 it's a bargain!

The best thing about the whole holiday was the fact that we had a brilliant rep who was always around. She was friendly, bubbly and really easy to talk to!

I would Defo come back here!!!! Best holiday ever !
