“Fantastic Hotel, Ignore the moaners!”
Reviewed 18 January 2011

We had a brilliant time at the Waikiki!

Food- International foods from all over Europe, great choice, great quality! We were there for Christmas and had an amazing Gala dinner on Christmas day....Amazing!

Rooms- Typical Spanish hotel rooms, very clean, comfortable, new towels and maid service every day, International TV channels ranging from German TV to Sky news.

Pool- Very nice, big Pool, get up early for a sunbed though!

Hotel service- The staff at the Hotel will go out of their way to be helpful and are very friendly.

Guests- The clientèle of the Waikiki come from all over Europe, all very friendly, I did notice some British guests grumbling about the Germans, but I think they were just being petty and small minded, If you don't like foreign people go on holiday to Butlins!

The Resort- Plenty to do, loads of clubs, bars and restaurants. The Maspalomas sandunes are amazing!

The Beach- The Beach is amazing, miles and miles of golden sand.

All in all, this hotel is lovely, it's 3 star but I would say it was closer to 4 star. I highly recommend. Great value for money. I cant wait to go back!

Stayed at this hotel over the Christams peroid and although it stayes 3 star out side
the hotel the service is 5 star, althrough the hotel.
Will defiantley go back. they have the all inclusive off to a tee. If you need wine soft drinks
ot beer they are all on tap for you to help your self. Food good and plenty of chouce for every tast. Only donw side no air-con only a ceeling fan which may be a broblem in the summer heat.

Not as described in other reviews. The food is very ordinary, plenty of it yes, but not good quality. The drinks, including lager, are served in what are best described as wine glasses. Breakfast is a proper bun fight, busier than Oxford Street during the sales. Entertainment team, very poor and on one occasion very risque considering there were kids in the audience. I have been to other hotels and paid a similar price and have to say that as far as value for money etc is concerned they all knock the Waikiki into a cocked hat !

The Hotel is very clean and typical Riu hotel. Staff really nice and room clean but basic.

Good points:
Nice Pool, help youreslf soft drinks wine and beer. Maid every day. Really clean all over. Excellent steak house accross road. Good location

Bad Points:
Very few UK, . Food absolutley catered for non uk tastes so fed up of same food after 2 days. Not very helpful Hotel Manager who looks at you like dirt, throws evryone out of restaunt that has shorts on, even if they are dress shorts. INSECTS in bar area. guests grab all the sunbed before sunrise and pinch all the cushions for the bar seats.

Before picking this hotel we looked at trip advisor and most of the comments were fairly positive which made us pick this. The hotel is in playa de ingles which is the party part of the island and the hotel is virtually in the perfect position. It is close enough to the kasbar (approx 3 mins walk) that you can stumble home easily but far enough that you can't hear any of the noise from it. The beach and the irish centre are both about a 5min walk and the yumbo centre about 10mins. Taxis here are also really cheap though!
I would call the service at the hotel top class and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. To be fair the rooms are only basic and don't have air con (fan instead) but gran canaria is not overly hot.and they were cleaned to a good standard every day. The entertainment throughout the day was good. There was something going on all of the time but if you wanted to just have a lie down and sun bathe the staff wouldn't bother you either so you got the best of both worlds. The all inclusive bar was always well stocked and getting served never seemed to be a problem. Soft drinks, lager and wine were also on serve yourself taps if you wanted. The pool was large and plenty of sun beds but you may have to look for one carefully as this hotel is very busy!
There was always food on the go somewhere in the hotel and plenty of it. A massive selection and it did change slightly each day as well.
This was the second time i have been to gran canaria and the culture of it has changed a little. The first time it seemed like everybody was british (90% roughly). This time around it was hard to find british people. We were definitely the minority which was a little disappointing but is not the fault of the location but more the recession. To give an example the waikiki was completely full with every room taken but had only 3 other small groups of brits. It was mostly germans that were around but to be fair so was egypt when i went there recently as well. The spanish and other europeans that spoke english did seem quite friendly and the germans were not bad but just a little strange in a comical way.
The pro's, clean, large hotel, excellent service, probably best all inclusive food and alcohol i've had, some sort of entertainment every night, busy hotel giving a good atmosphere.
Con's, not enough brits around but this isn't really any fault of the hotel, rooms could be a little less basic.

Very good quality All Inclusive hotel for a 3 star.
Negative point are petty like bacon is only available at breakfast every 3 days, alternating with sausages and fried pork strips that the Germans like. Also there is no carvery roast available at dinner.
Everything else is a good point. All hot meats and fish are cooked openly at the serving stations. Massive choice of salads and lovely fresh bread and rolls. All wine, beer and soft drinks are serve yourself which means very small queues at the bar for spirits and cocktails.
Rooms were cleaned every day and shampoo and bath gel were topped up daily.
You could always get a sun bed although angle of sun and biuldings meant you needed to keep moving around,
Entertainment team try hard but evening shows are not that good. Underground entertainment room is a poor shape and unless you get down early many seats are off at an angle away from the stage.
All in all a stay at this hotel is very good value for money.

Was recommended this hotel by a Thomas Cook travel agent and have to admit it was exactly as she said it would be. The hotel and its facilities where just as it said in the brochure ; Clean, friendly and lots of activities for both young and old. Have read some reviews criticising the food but they must be very picky eaters as we found there to be plenty of choice and in abundance with lots of the food cooked in front of you by the chefs, so expect to put a few pounds on by the time you leave. The hotel staff where cheerful, pleasant and very helpful. The only negative thing I could say is the furniture in the hotel room could do with up dating but that apart a great time was had by all.
