“Second time here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2013

Once again here and nothing has changed from the last time.Excellent throughout!
This time we asked to be overlooking the pool and closer to reception and a high floor. What did we get? all what we asked for.. well done.

Room Tip: If you want to be near the night time life but away from the noise of it then this hotel is perfect.

Nice and friendly staff, well located and very clean. I recommend this hotel ... we stayed for 11 nights and food was a bit the same but my overall feedback is very good. I would suggest to vary meat and fish.

We chose this hotel for its location and the fact there are no children allowed.

The hotel itself is a short walk to the Yumbo centre, but far enough away not to hear it, we prefer this end of the resort as the area around the "kasbah" tends to be full off drunk teenagers.

The room we were in was fairly large, however another one in our group had a much smaller room, both overlooking the pool. The rooms, as the hotel on a whole were very clean, they did not have a kettle / cups etc, however that was soon remedied by a quick trip to the supermarket over the road. This hotel is a very strange layout with stairs and long corridors etc so if you have any mobility problems its definately worth mentioning this when you book so you can have a room nearer the pool / reception area.

There was a good choice of food available, with some slightly odd choices such as brussel sprouts and carrots for breakfast. As in all hotels they are catering for an international cliental so the food doe get a little samey after 2 weeks, however I think this is to be expected. My one little gripe is that the food wasn't always clearly labelled, so at times a bit of guesswork was involved, we made a bit of a game of this "guess the mystery fish" and one night the chicken was definately pork! (I was travelling with 2 chefs and they confirmed my suspicion) Again this was ok for us, however people with allergies etc might need to be a bit more careful.

Most of the staff were obsessively friendly, we soon discovered, (despite my husbands best attempts as it became a sort of challenge) that it was physically impossible to walk past a member of staff within a distance of 30m and not receive a cheery hello. The waiting staff were especially friendly and helpful. Reception staff were efficient apart from check in we spoke to them twice, not sure is something was getting lost in translation as they seemed a little abrupt and paying the restaurant drinks bill proved to be quite difficult.

As far as the hotel entertainment goes, I think this very much depends on your view, personally I don't like hotel entertainment of any sort, if I want it I'll go and find it, I appreciate that some older people do enjoy it as they can't maybe get out as much. Entertainment is held both in the external and internal bars. Due to position of our room there was no escape if it was outside, it was incredibly loud on our balcony and in our room (unless you closed the doors) I enjoy sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine on an evening, on more than one night the singer, was so loud the balcony furniture was vibrating, it was generally over by 11pm ish.

All in all this is a good hotel with very little to complain about

Stayed two weeks Early November. Overall this is an excellent 3 Star Hotel (it most definitely not of 4 star standard but certainly does a good job at its official 3 star level). The clientele are very international. During our stay we spoke with quite a few nationalities. Quite a few Scots, Irish, some English, many Germans, Austrians, Swiss, French, Dutch and a few Spaniards. With such a mixture of nationalities the hotel does very well to cater to all, particularly at meal times. The hotel has a well presented exterior, gardens and refurbished pool area with jacuzzi, day beds and sun loungers. Spacious lobby (with free wifi) and bar/entertainment area extending outside, perfect for a coffee of drink after dinner. Efficient reception with good check-in and out, minimal queuing and paperwork all pre-prepared.
By all accounts there are a variety of room layouts and sizes across the three blocks of the premises so there are many variations on a theme. We had a room on first floor, block 2, with balcony overlooking swimming pool. Peaceful, no noise, good view over pool and towards bar area. Rooms have had a makeover but are not fully refurbished as furniture, wardrobes and bathrooms are not new. However, rooms are well maintained, clean and comfortable with ceiling fan, air con, small fridge and TV (only four or five English language channels, also German, Italian, French and Spanish channels). Very comfortable beds, changed weekly or sooner on request. Bathrooms are slightly dated by todays standards but functional and clean. 3/4 length bath. Over bath shower with excellent water pressure and always hot water. Good lighting. Hair dryer. Adequate shelf space. Clean towels daily (towels could be of higher quality though)! Maid service daily.
Breakfast was of standard international style self service buffet. A good range of hot dishes and fresh cooked eggs (some dishes a bit different on occasion - brussels sprouts for breakfast anyone)!? Excellent range of breads cheese, cold cuts and salads. Some cereals, plenty fruit, natural yoghurt etc. Something for everyone. Pots of coffee (coffee on weak side), Espresso available from machine in back corner. Hot milk available next to juice machines. For tea drinkers- tea bags and hot water available.
Evening meal. Two sittings, take your choice. Men must wear long trousers at dinner. No shorts or tank tops ( a good way to keep standards up). Again international buffet style, immense choice from salad bar, soup, fish, pasta, grill, roast, various vegetables and potatoes. Deserts, fruit, cheese and ice cream. You can purchase a drink at your table. After dinner coffee at bar only.
Not everyone will be comfortable with very close proximity of tables in dining room however it is a good opportunity to meet others and strike up a conversation, albeit often in broken English or another language if you speak one. Waiting staff are extremely friendly and attentive. They do an excellent job at removing used plates whilst you are at the buffet and they get to know you. Really pleasant.
Staff hospitality is a big strength of this hotel. We found all staff, without exception, to be friendly and helpful and impressively multi-lingual.
The hotel is well located for the main avenue and Yumbo centre. it is a good half hour walk to the beach, though there is a courtesy bus. There is a good public bus service, including to and from Airport and to Maspalomas beach from the main avenue, next circle down from hotel ( in front of Playa Sol Apts).
Looking forward to returning here again next year.
Well done Riu Don Migue!

Our second stay at the Hotel Riu Don Miguel and have booked to come again! What more is there to say? This hotel ticks all the boxes!
Newly refurbished with an amazing pool and bar area, nice clean rooms and a nice restaurant with lots of different options and really lovely staff: our waiter Manolo was really friendly and the maître d' Ana Lopez was really nice too. Every evening the Hotel Director welcomes you to dinner and her shoes are amazing! We think she has the most amazing wardrobe in the whole of Gran Canaria!

Really Really looking forward to our next visit in just a few weeks!

Room Tip: Rooms that overlook the pool will have sun for longer

We stayed for a week in early November and had fine sunny weather. A great hotel, good breakfast, lovely pool, adults only, central location, and very friendly staff. Will go back when we can. Easy cash car hire nearby for trips up into the mountains.

This may only be a three star hotel but it provides all you need with friendly helpful service.

I was here in October with a Friend.
The room was a bit of a trek but my fitness improved
The buffet restaurant was ideal and the staff were all very friendly.
The Hot Black Cherry, Neapolitan ice cream covered in meringue was Fantastic.
I will return

Room Tip: If you fit then expect a walk, if your not fit ask for a room closer to reception. Its a long hotel.
