“Superb Service”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

This is our second stay at this hotel, and yet again the service and food are of the highest standard.

Reception staff are friendly and efficient.

The choice and quality of the food on the evening buffet is excellent, this coupled with efficient service from the waiters makes for a pleasurable dining experience.
The cheese course which was provided by the waiters as a trolley service has now been introduced onto the buffet, however this is compensated by a greater choice of cheeses being available.
Many of the waiters seem to have been employed at the hotel for years, as have many of the repeat clients who seem too treated as friends.

The rooms are traditional in style but comfortable, with good quiet air con and an overhaed fan if need. There is plenty of wardrobe/storage space.
Bathrooms are roomy with a supply of good towels, the shower is over the bath, but the force of the shower is good. Shower gel is provided.
There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but a minibar and safe is provided for an additional cost.
The TV has four English language channels - BBC World, Sky News, True Murder & True Films.
Email the hotel in advance and request a bed with a mattress topper - these give you a good nights sleep, however as previous reviewers have commented the sound proofing in the bedrooms is poor - this probably due to the age of the hotel.
Some rooms' views are impeded by the palm trees in the gardens,so if you want a clear view request a room on a higher floor.

Pool towels are provided at check in and these can be changed daily from the pool boy in the morning if required. There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols available around both pools and in garden areas. A drinks waiter service is provided round the pools and there is also a snack bar albeit with a limited menu is available for lunch.

Wi-Fi seems to be an issue for some, however there is a coin operated internet room (3 stations & printer at a cost of 1 euro for 15 mins) just off reception where you can access the net and speed here didn't seem a problem!

There is a mini supermarket just across the road if you want to stock up on drinks etc.

If you have a late flight home the hotel will provide you with a room in which to shower and change, which again demonstrates the standard of service given to its clients.

Playa del Ingles is not the most attractive resort on the island, (Meloneras offers more designer shopping and sophistication), however this hotel looking over the dunes is an oasis of calm and serenity, offering a high level of customer service with superb food and is highly recommended.

Great hotel with very good food and facilities but the main attraction of this hotel is the staff. From the top to the bottom all are friendly and efficient. We have stayed in many hotels and usually only find this level of service in a 5 star establishment. In fact many of the features of this hotel are of 5 star quality. As other reviewers have stated however, WiFi is not good.and needs to be updated- it is only available in the reception area and is not great quality even here.

Would definitely stay again- as long as I didn't need WiFi.

Thus was our 7 th visit to Riu Palace Maspalomas, over the years nothing has changed, the standards are still as high and they Don't come any higher.

We flew with Tomson Holidays on a paltinum package from Manchester. This used to Platinum Premier but the premier seems to have been dropped alomg with the little extras that made the holiday special.

What have Thomson holidays dropped from the package?

Gone the meal on the plane.
Gone the reserved seating at the front of the plane
Gone the first drop off in Resort ( the guests on our flight were dropped off last 1.5 hours after pick up)
Gone the complimentary bottle of cava and fruit in the room.( tui europe guests still recieve it)
Gone the 25 kgs extra baggage allowance

We like the option of day before check in which is now day before bag drop. To use day before bag drop we had to reserve seating at a cost.

My reason for posting this is not to complain but to alert other travellers that the premier benefits are gone.
As for Riu Palace , it is still the perfect holiday hotel as always.

Thank you Riu for an Amazing stay.

See you December 22nd

Lets start with the negative we arrived at Gran Canaria but no Thomson rep at airport or on the coach which unfortunately due to penny pinching by Thomson allowed several passengers on the coach to behave with obscene and vulgar language regardless of the fact that children were on the coach ( would have been prevented if a Thomson rep was present) after a trip from hell we arrived at our hotel, The room was excellent however our view from our balcony was of a big palm tree only ( we laughed) The staff at this hotel are friendly and helpful and the food is plentiful and of a good quality. Pool areas are good and staff who attend you there are excellent .Holidays are what you make of them and this hotel was a great start to making our holiday a good one

Room Tip: Don't book room 2036

Stayed 17th-24th May

The good :
Relaxing pool areas
Beautiful beach and sea views
Food
Service
Happy smiley staff
Very clean, homely feel hotel
Front desk accommodating with requests
Adam on the front door - a cool guy

The not so good:
Poor soundproofing in bedrooms (we were unlucky - hope for quiet neighbours)
Poor selection of english/american tv channels (sky/bbc news only - a music channel would have been great)

Would definitely stay again. If you're going here - you in for a treat!

Room Tip: Ask for no neighbours and floor 2/upwards for that sea view

Returned from this Hotel last week. What a lovely hotel to stay in. The staff from the cleaners cooks, waiters pool attendants, reception are all FIRST CLASS. Myself and my wife met many good friend s on our return visit. If you are looking for peace and quite well you have hit the jackpot with this hotel. Gay Straight, German English French etc whatever it doesn't matter everybody mixes. Not many children though but it still caters brilliantly for everybody.

I would recommend this hotel time and time again. The food is First class. Drinks are large compared to some of the bars in the town, but maybe a little more expensive. Use the local supermarkets scattered around the area and stock up with Water, drink, crisp etc so that you can have snacks before dinne.
All I can say is that you cant please everybody but they have certainly pleased us time and time again. ENJOY.

Room Tip: If you want the sunshine in the evening get rooms 3030 TO 3040 on the 3rd floor
