“Amazing Hotel”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

We stayed at this hotel for 14 days and when we arrived at 11.30pm after missing one of our cases at the airport we were greeted by TONI. Left all the details with him and he was amazing! 1st class service!! The suitcase arrived the next day thanks to him! He always seem to be there from early morning till late at night. The hotel staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble from them, you can tell they enjoyed there work. At breakfast our waiter ENRIQUE was brillant and also JOSE PENQ our evening waiter were excellent, and GLORIA IBIS who serviced our rooms to a great standard! The food was amazing, so much choice!!! If we ever come back we would love to stay here again!!!! Thank you to everyone for a brilliant holiday!!!!

We stayed at this Hotel for 14 days, the hotel was very clean, the staff in all areas were excellent, they were always polite and happy, The only problems with this Hotel are the attitudes of the guests, they are mainly German and if you can't speak in German you get ignored and treated as if you are from another planet ! Sorry but we will not return to this hotel, there are far more places to enjoy your holidays

I stayed many times in the hotel and its really the best place so for. I tried also other hotels and the RIU palace maspalomas is the best.

I agree, they should refurbish the hotel but its still a very nice place to stay.

When i ll go back to gran canaria i ll stay there again for sure.

In general, good value for the money holiday resort. Let me flesh out my observations a bit.

Rooms. Mine was not very big but adequate. It was furnished with a small TV, full bathroom and a terrace. Floor is with a carpet which I personally don't like very much. No bathropes or slippers provided. Bath gel + shampoo in a common doser attached to the wall over the bathtubs. Rooms are clean and generally quiet except for the noisy cleaning which starts VERY early in the morning (cleaning ladies talk loudly in occasions and of course make noise not filtered by the walls so you will be woken up) . Beware if you are among those who like to wake up late while on holiday.

Facilities. Well furnished for a holiday resort: swimming pools, Jacuzzis (exterior), wet and dry saunas, tennis court, hairdresser, small gym, massages, etc.

In the pool areas (two main pool areas) is very difficult to find free sunbeds and parasols. And everybody simply ignores the instruction for not reserving sunbeds, which is not at all enforced by staff.

No WiFi in hotel except in a packed area near the reception (this can be a nuance or a bless depending on how you look at it). Other than that there is a small room with 3 computers (one of them connected to a printer) costing 1 Euro for 15 mins connection. This is a holiday resort and not by any chance a business hotel so don't book here expecting it is in any way (I.e. if you try to work remotelly at times while your family enjoys the holidays, as I''ve done sometimes).

This is not a beach hotel. Beware of it. To get to the beach you need to walk a long way (20-25 mins) through a promenade overlooking the dunes until you reach a stair that leads to to the beach area in one extreme of the Maspalomas beach. The alternative is to cross the dunes, which takes also 15-20 at good path and is definitelly not suitable to everyone. Both options are very challenging or simply not suitable to handicapped people. Maspalomas beach is nice, if you are ok with nudism.

Buffets both for breakfast and dinner are abundant and varied and of pretty good quality.

Waiter service in pools is ok in the larger swimming pool area but less frequent in the smaller area (more far away from the bar). In general, cost is quite adequate and variety is ok.

If you ask they will tell you they have a free parking, but actually parking area is very limited with just a handful of parking slots and most likely all will be occupied when you try to park.

Riu chain brags on the friendliness of their staff. In my experience I would say staff is generally friendly, but somehow inconsistently: some are friendly, a few barely answer to a "Buenos días". Some make an effort to be very friendly with some hosts and pretty much ignore others. In general, most are at least correct and a few excell at their customer-orientedness.

Most of the hosts I would say are foreighners (many german).

In general a nice resort with good ratio quality vs cost.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from an 11 night stay and although we are in our early 20s this hotel suited us perfectly. We wanted a peaceful and relaxing stay with good food, nice pool and a surf beach close by. This hotel exceeded our expectations. The pool is lovely and the waiter service makes it extra special. Although a sign says no inflatable beds, we had a rubber ring and non of the staff seemed to mind. The only negative would be as most other reviews have mentioned, people do put their towels down early in the morning so it is almost impossible to find a nice spot if u arrive casually after breakfast. However, we usually went to the beach in the morning, and found plenty of beds when we arrived back at the hotel at around 4.
The food is also great, make sure you try the freshly made omelettes at breakfast. There was also lots of choice at dinner and we definitely over indulged with about 6 different courses each night. We dined at 8.30 which was fine although we were rather hungry by 8. We visited the Krystal restaurant once and although the food was nice, it was the same menu as when we visited a Riu hotel in fuerteventura last year.
The overall hotel was a little out dated but it didn't bother us. The internet was also fine, we didn't mind that we only could use it in the lobby as holidays aren't for internet really!
All the staff were so polite and helpful I can't describe how fantastic they are, the only downside was that when we arrived we did not get the champagne as expected and our bags were not carried to our room, but it was about 1am so I can understand that. The rooms are perfectly cleaned every morning, beds are not crazily comfy but I have never stayed at a hotel abroad and found the bed really comfortable. The majority of the guests are older and German, I would say we were definitely one of the youngest, but this made the hotel stayed so peaceful I suppose. However, I found that people do like to stare at you.
The entertainment was pretty poor but the football was on so that was okay. Although a circus act were quite funny!
The beach is definitely not a 40 min walk away as a previous review stated, it is literally a 15 min walk, down the path and then across the dunes, you just need to spot the flattest way to go over them. The views are amazing! Although the sand was rather hot so don't try and go in the middle of the day!!
If u like surfing this hotel is perfect location, waves were disappointing first few days but the rest were clean reaching 5ft, good for interim date surfers or beginners as we noticed a couple of surf schools. My boyfriend brought his board but u can hire one for €15 for the day!
I would say if u want to go out the hotel get a taxi to maspalomas rather than playa del ingles. It has nice shops and bars, playa del ingles is rather tacky.

Overall the hotel was great with some minor minor negatives, the staff were exceptional and the views were beautiful :)

Having read the previous reviews you worry that you will land in an internet-free, faded, geriatric version of fairyland crossed with Baden Baden and the Yellow Brick Road down the middle! Whilst the majority of the clientelle may be slightly older and often Germanic, please do not let this put you off - this means it is quiet, often well dressed, efficiently run and immaculately clean. This hotel is superb and has probably the finest location on the whole island – with it’s manicured palm filled gardens giving way to views of the dunes and sea!

We stayed in June and had a fabulous room facing the dunes. Everything is kept so clean from balcony to bathroom to the pool areas and the public parts of the hotel.

Food is buffet style and first class with so many choices at both breakfast and dinner. On two nights we ate in the gastronomic restaurant, Krystal (at no additional cost) – again, excellent food and very pleasant staff. In fact, as other reviewers have noted, the staff throughout the hotel are extremely professional and diligent in all their duties and they always seem to smile!

We ate at the second sitting of dinner which is 8:30pm in Summer. Gentleman cannot wear shorts and most people do make an effort to smarten up – a new experience for me, but I enjoyed it! Breakfast is at any time and we managed to eat on the terrace each day. The hotel is large, however the staff are so efficient that we never waited more than ten minutes for a table.

We thoroughly recommend this hotel and will plan a return trip in 2015. Most clients seem to have been there before so it shows you how highly they rate it!

Room Tip: If you can afford it get sea view on a higher floor
