Just returned from a lovely week long stay at the Riu Palace Maspalomas. I was a bit nervous travelling for the first time alone with my 15 year old daughter but I need not have worried. We arrived after midnight and were checked in very quickly and I loved our room which was on the first floor overlooking the pool and had a huge balcony with plenty of space for sunbathing if required. A few people have said the rooms are old fashioned but I liked the style and it was lovely to have a carpet which meant that there was no noise from above with people clattering about on a tiled floor. There was a varied mix of people in the hotel with couples of all ages and families and more children and teenagers than expected, who were all well behaved and this was great for us as I was worried that my daughter would be the only kid there. A few gay couples also but there were very much in the minority. The food was excellent and the staff were excellent as well. All seemed very happy in their work and were polite and courteous to all the guests. The pool areas and gardens are just lovely. The bigger pool is supposed to be the quieter one (the smaller one has got squirty bits etc and is more lively) but I preferred the bigger pool. It is so peaceful not having music blaring in your ears all day long so full marks for that. The usual issues with folk reserving sunbeds but you could always manage to get a bed without too many problems. The evening entertainment was a bit lame and the resident house band seemed to be on every night and played the same songs every single night. Got a bit fed up with them. The professional acts were ok ish. A lot of people were complaining about wi fi connections and that it was only available in reception but that did not concern me. The hotel is in a stunning location next to the dunes and you can walk over them to the sea but this is quite a trek. We were warned that there are a lot of nudists in the dunes near the hotel but we did not venture out there! I didnt really like the resort of Playa Del Ingles as its a bit tacky and dirty in places. The taxis are really cheap and we went to Meloneras one night which was lovely and I would probably prefer to stay there as its a bit more up market. So all in all, loved the hotel and would recommend it for a chilled out, relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Choose a high room.

After arriving on a late flight and missing our dinner, we booked in and were told a cold buffet had been laid for us with a bottle of water too!

We got settled into our room 0008 ground floor which consisted of a two large single bed (almost doubles, we booked a twin room) a bathoom with a shower over the bath with toilet and bidet and a large balcony that overlooked the pool.

The room was immaculate and we were very pleased in particular with the size! We did not have aircon however their was a room fan and we were comfortable, although I heard other guests on higher floors had aircon.

The hotel, despite being a fairly big hotel, felt quiet and small, with extremely friendly staff always saying hello when you walked past and it never seemed forced!

The hotel backs right onto the dunes which is an amazing site, and very hot during the day!! Best to go down in the evening!

Breakfast served 8-10:30 large choice: pancakes omelettes to order, fry up, cakes, fruit, yoghurt and cereals alongside fresh coffer and juices.

There is a little shop literally a minute walk from the front of the hotel where you can buy 4 litres of water for 1.30€ which is cheaper than the hotel!

We always managed to get a space near the pool, and as there are two sides you have a more active side with little fountains for children and the quieter side where we were, this did however get busier the last few days we were there!

Dinner is at 6:30 or 8:30 with a massive selection of freshlt cooked food, which varied each day, the prawns were huge and delicious!! We had duck, veal, paella with snails, calamari, plus they always had pizza for those fussy ones or children!

The entertainment was a bit old on some nights (we are 21 and 27) but lots of oldies up dancing! However the flamenco on one night were fab as were the Polynesian dancers on the other!

All the staff are extremely helpful and friendly and I have to admit I cried when I left!! It was the best holiday I have ever been on, and really didnt want to come home!

Just arrived back after a fantastic two weeks at Riu palace maspalomas . This hotel has the best location in this resort by a long way. Have stayed here four times before ,and must agree that the hotel is now in need of a major revamp to bring it up to date with newer properties ,as mentioned by many other reviewers wi-fi is really awful , this really needs to be addressed .Some people have mentioned due to average age of guests this is the reason wi-fi is not a priority , but many older guests we spoke to felt exactly the same as us about this. Anyway apart from these two issues everything else is wonderful, the service from every member of staff was truly exceptional . Food was outstanding in my opinion , with a wide choice for every taste , waiters are very attentive and friendly and also very unobtrusive as well. Front desk staff truly excellent , any issues dealt with quickly and professionally ,we opted for a sea view room at extra cost ,but really well worth it , the room was 3032 , if you are lucky enough to be allocated in this room the view is wonderful and you have the sun all day till sunset , fab!! Special mention must be made to our chambermaid who was Sofia , a real star . I still would advise anyone to stay here as it is still the jewel in the crown of playa del ingles even though it is in need of a makeover. Also was nice to have a thomson rep back in the hotel , and a helpful one at that . Fab holiday all round.

Room Tip: Opt for a room on 3rd or 4th floor , worth the extra cost.

Stayed in room 4044 - great views of the dunes, sea and grounds.

This is a really good hotel, well situated if you want a quiet relaxing holiday, or if you want to enjoy the party life of Gran Canaria!

Confortable rooms, immaculately clean with friendly housekeeping staff.

Stayed on half board basis - good variety of food and waiting staff and chefs cooking fresh food in restaurant were hospitable and friendly too. Food selection was varied with a Canarian corner each night - letting you taste local food.

Pristine, well maintained grounds makes this an ideal chill out hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms have better views

We stayed at this hotel for 14 days and when we arrived at 11.30pm after missing one of our cases at the airport we were greeted by TONI. Left all the details with him and he was amazing! 1st class service!! The suitcase arrived the next day thanks to him! He always seem to be there from early morning till late at night. The hotel staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble from them, you can tell they enjoyed there work. At breakfast our waiter ENRIQUE was brillant and also JOSE PENQ our evening waiter were excellent, and GLORIA IBIS who serviced our rooms to a great standard! The food was amazing, so much choice!!! If we ever come back we would love to stay here again!!!! Thank you to everyone for a brilliant holiday!!!!
