Just returned from 10 day stay and it was one of our best holidays ever. The hotel staff are all very friendly and the rooms were spotless. The animation team was excellent. Hardly saw my five year old daughter Ava as she was constantly at the mini club with the wonderful Marcella who ran it. The work that the animation team put in was brilliant with little performances and the disco every night. They were all full of enthusiasm and constantly cheerful. could not recommend this hotel highly enough. Will definitely be back in the future.

Really enjoyed our 2 week holiday in Sol Barbacan this month. Facilities for kids and adults are excellent: kids club and entertainment staff are really good, clean and comfortable apartment, (our apt. was cleaned every day), lovely big veranda overlooking pool. We had one buffet and one a la carte meal and both were really good although the a la carte was a little expensive.
It would be hard to fault this place as it is of a very high standard and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday but the following is worth noting:
Wi-fi is free but non-existant, pool is quite small (sunbeds always saved early but we always managed to get beds anyway), place really quiet at night for adults, beach a good 15/20 mins walk away and finally, very few guests spoke English as most were from Holland so it was a little more difficult for our kids to make friends.
I would highly recommend this place though and would return if I wasn't the type of person who likes to go somewhere 'new' every year...

Room Tip: Our room was on fifth floor overlooking pool - view was beautiful and sun shone on balcony for most...

Firstly, thank you so much for your 100% rating! I am very glad that your 2 weeks with us were satisfying. Thank you for mentioning our entertainment team, the apartment and the restaurant. Referring to the Wi-Fi: We have installed fiber optics to improve the connection and speed. We are also testing various wireless systems to find the one that suits the needs of our clients and the hotel. Although we try to have it as soon as possible, it is taking us some time as we want to find a definitive solution to ensure the highest quality service possible. We hope to see you back in the future!

Stayed here with a group of friends (25 year olds). Was very impressed with the hotel. There is one main pool, an outdoor jacuzzi, kids pool and another smaller pool. All are equipped with numerous sun loungers and there is also a lifeguard on duty all day which was great to see! Room was spacious and clean, towels were changed daily if we wished. Only downside is the 10 minute walk to the beach and strip area but overall its a great hotel to explore the area. There is a taxi rank right outside for those feeling tired and sun burned!!

Just returned from a fortnight in the Sol Barbacan. We had a two bedroom apartment which was beautiful, almost luxurious in comfort. The two bathrooms helped massively as we have two children; the patio was private and the roof-top sun deck was a pleasure to use. The cleaning was excellent, the housekeeping staff a pleasure as was all the staff in the hotel at all times - even when it was very slow to be served at the bar - they always smiled and were very courteous. Everything worked well, was provided in immaculate state and when we had a very minor concern - it was dealt with immediately. The bungalows are beautiful to stay in and so quiet at night with very quiet air conditioning.....beautifully maintained in grounds that were a pleasure to use.
The location of the hotel is fine - it is good to walk around the resort and see other places - we walked to the beach promenade almost every night (15 mins) with some reasonable places to eat with good entertainment in a number of bars - a taxi back at night was about €3.20. We avoided the Yumbo after the first night - it in our opinion was dreary, like a car park and didn't feel safe to us.......sometimes aggressive shop keepers hassling us to buy things which were massively over priced in our opinion from looking elsewhere.
I agree with a review posted earlier about the animation team - in our opinion they weren't great, were selective and repetitive and did focus almost exclusively on a single nationality - other than during the dreary daily cocktail game....which did consist of no more than catch or hitting a ball with a bat and catching with a net, or rolling a dice, catching tennis balls in a tube etc...........insufficient time to keep completing these tasks also often left a final question (like guessing ages, or rolling dice etc) which defeats the point of the 'challenge' in the first place. Would recommend a review of these.
We laughed at the congregation of guests every morning from about 7.30am reserving sunbeds when they were 'released' at 9am........I may post pictures of empty 'reserved' sunbeds an hour after they were all 'reserved' at around 10.00am on one day - there is not a single guest occupying them other than our family - the sunbeds were often never used and selfishly held by some guests who may only stay a few minutes or an hour. The hotel in our opinion does not enforce a no reservation rule and this had a huge impact on our enjoyment and pleasure in staying in the hotel.....we went to the beach and spent most of our money there which would have gone in the hotel otherwise. I don't blame the hotel for stepping away from this - it does lead to conflict and that is the last thing needed during a holiday. One day a member of staff saw my wife without a parasol (only sunbed available) and without asking he brought over a brand new one from a box and set it up for her....this is a reflection of the high standard the hotel provides to the guests and I acknowledge and thank them sincerely for this simple gesture which meant so much on that day. The lifeguard was always polite, respectful and diligent every single day and a credit to the hotel staff. Towel exchange a brilliant idea and bonus of staying there.
Didn't eat in the hotel - preferring to eat out - the offers worked out more expensive than eating elsewhere......but the standard of the catering looked high when walking through the restaurant.
WIFI was fine - sit by the pool (if you can get a sunbed) and use it - it works well there.....but best to leave the phone and laptop at home.....you should be on holiday!
We had a great time at the Sol Barbacan - what a great place to stay...with such lovely staff and facilities........many thanks - would highly recommend.

It is very important for our future guests and for us to know how you have experienced your stay with us, as our guests’ satisfaction is our main priority. That´s why I would like to thank you so much for writing such an extended review about Sol Barbacan. As you say: ¨one day a member of staff saw my wife without a parasol (only sunbed available) and without asking he brought over a brand new one from a box and set it up for her....this is a reflection of the high standard the hotel provides to the guests¨ This is an example that reflects how important we find the well-being of our guests. I am very pleased to read that our luxurious comfort apartments and bungalows, the silence at night, very quiet air conditioning, the cleaning and our staff and facilities were satisfying. Many thanks for recommending us and we sure hope to see you back in the future.

Three of us stayed at the Sol Barbacan during July and August - and it is pretty hard to fault the hotel, but there are one or two minor irritations that are worth being aware of, so that you are really happy with your stay. We stayed in a two bedroom villa (55) towards the rear of the complex - ideal for us as it was a little way from the bar and pool which made it easier to sleep in and made for a more peaceful vacation.

The villa is nice and well equipped but with one or two things to know. Bedrooms are air conditioned, but not the living room, which meant that sitting up in the evening was not as comfortable as we might have hoped. Whilst well equipped some things are not available, such as an iron and ironing board, you can get one but only by paying to rent them. This seemed a little excessive. Also whilst free wifi is available, the signal often dropped out making connecting impossible in the villa.

The site is extremely well maintained and is well located with easy access (15-20 minute walk) to both the dunes and the Sea front, the area is very popular with Germans and has a great many shops and restaurants within 5 minutes of the hotel. We felt that the pools were a little small when the hotel is fully occupied making swimming difficult, and of course by 930 every sunbed had a towel on it, even though the hotel has a policy of not allowing reserving beds.

Staff are great - fluent in English and several other languages. all in all a good place to base yourself - but hire a car or you will miss out

Room Tip: Villas are quieter than hotel rooms - the site is an oasis within a town center :)

Dear FamilyMK,
Thank you for rating us on Tripadvisor. I am happy to read that you find it pretty hard to fault the hotel. The reason that, on the moment, we don´t apply air-conditioning in the living room is because the living room counts with terrace doors. Because of this terrace doors the air-conditioning will not work. Regarding to the Wi-Fi: We have installed fiber optics to improve the connection and speed. We are also testing various wireless systems to find the one that suits the needs of our clients and the hotel. Although we try to have it as soon as possible, it is taking us some time as we want to find a definitive solution to ensure the highest quality service possible. I hope to welcome you back in Sol Barbacan.

Stayed there in January 2014. Nice hotel, good attentive stuff- high quality food. The only major critism- bit far from the beach. Wi Fi was rubbish- free, but didn't worked properly almost every day. Sofas in the living room could be more comfortable.

Hello maxxcell,
Thank you for rating us on Tripadvisor and name us a nice hotel. Since your stay in January, we have improved our wifi. We have installed fiber optics to improve the connection and speed. We stayed for ten days and loved the hotel! The apartments were amazing and had everything you'd want an apartment to have! They were cleaned everyday by the cleaning staff who were extremely friendly. The only down fall to the room is a double bed is two singles but you're going to get that in most places abroad and they were comfy! The showers were brillant and the pool area was lovely but it is hard to get sun beds and they played the same songs everyday for ten days straight! Also if you like to sleep in make sure you put a do not disturb sign on your door each night as the cleaning staff start early. The wifi is also disappointing, but on holidays you don't need it!
The hotel is slightly out of the way but its not a bad thing its only a 20 minute walk to the beach and all the restaurants! Would recommend El Rancho in Kasbah the food is amazing and also get a taxi down to the lighthouse some night as the restaurants down there are lovely and its only 5 euros in a taxi!! Grand d'italia is lovely
unfortunately even though the hotel was amazing i wasn't impressed by playa del ingles it's very dated and for this reason I wouldn't return but if i was going too i'd without a doubt stay in sol barbacan! The holiday wouldn't have been good without the beautiful hotel! Receptionist on arrival very helpful, asset to the hotel! I think his name was gullimero?
Taxi from the airport to the hotel is about £36 euros
well done sol barbacan!

Dear Lucy M,

First of all, I would like to thank you for your extended review and your 100% rating! I am very glad that the apartment, every day cleaning, the pool area and the reception staff were satisfactory. Regarding to the early cleaning: the rest of our guests is very important. It is always possible to request cleaning at a later time in our reception. Regarding to the wifi: We have installed fiber optics to improve the connection and speed.
