Having read the latest reviews before arrival we were expecting the worst. However things were not too bad, there were 3 couples traveling and we were all put on the same floor (not in the main complex) The rooms were basic but we knew this when we booked!. Our rooms were opposite the Kasbah centre which comes alive/noisy from midnight so if you have a family you need to request a different block as it was difficult to sleep (without alcohol lol) The rooms were cleaned every other day and were fine, however one problem was the bathroom shower screen was far to "short" and this resulted in the floor becoming really wet. The security of the room was also not great, the patio doors were easy to break into if needed (although we never felt uneasy in the block). There was a kettle/toaster/hob/fridge and cutlery provided and even though there was no air-con in the room, if you opened the patio door and front door the room quickly cooled down. The TV - wouldn't bother, the only Chanel was BBC world news and that didn't have any volume on it - so you were only reading the headlines by subtitle! (beware there was hardcore porn - not good if you have a family)The pool area was very nice, never struggled to get a sunbed and they get the sun all day, although you cant put any towels out before 10.am otherwise they get removed (it is only 2.5 euros to hire a sunbed at the beach anyhow) We ate in the poolside bar and the staff were really friendly and prices really cheap. The location of the apartments was good as well, 5 mins walk and you are at the beach .So the question is - would I go to these apartments again, if I was on a budget - yes, don't be put off by the reviews, there were lots of people staying at the complex - we never heard anyone complaining - remember - not everyone puts reviews on tripadvisor!

I stayed at the Koka in Playa del Ingles fro the 21st - 31st May 2014.
Playa del ingles is having a lot of EU money spent on it just now .... the streets and pavements are being over-hauled and trees are being planted ..... that is what you will find when you arrive at the friendly reception desk of the Koka.
Check in was super friendly, the young lady on the desk was very helpful, courteous and had a welcoming manne. She also proved to be extrenely helpful when I was trying to print off my flight tickets off ..... a big thank you X
I was staying on the 3rd floor of block 2 which is around the corner opposite the Kasbah centre.
The building is accessed through a secure locked door, there is an elevator to all the floors.
When opening the door of the studio I was welcomed with a clean area which comprised of a brand bew shower room, laminate floored living area with twin beds, TV, brand new kitchen and a balcony overlooking the pool. I felt pleased and contented and ready to start my holiday.
Being there or gay pride the hotel was full of LGBT people from around the world as well as everyday families and owner occupiers.
Being close to the Kasbah centre you need to keep in mind that the party kicks off there around 8 in the evening and does continue into the middle off the night but I found that by closing the bathroom door that the sound was considerably diminished.
Every day except on Sunday the apartment was cleaned and fresh towels every other day.
My only gripe about my stay was my noisy neighbour through the wall ... a single woman who obviously met people there and who decided that every night her apartment would turn into party central. The conversations coming from her room were entertaining but the loud Glasgow boy who was always there and chanting "here we, here we, here we F..ing go every five minutes was verging on gettin a slap. Grow up sonny boi ..... you were an embarrasment to our gay community.
Would I stay at the KOKA again? - Yes I certainly would .....
In short the place was friendly, clean, welcoming and good value.
A big thank you to all the staff.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor

I understand that this is a budget apartment complex and that you get what you pay for but there are definitely better quality places for the same price nearby!

Upon arrival I was told by the member of staff on reception that I was in another building around the corner. When I arrived, I struggled for 5 minutes to get the front door to open as the key wasn't a very good cut. I had a similar issue with my room key.

The apartment was extremely basic, however I did have a roof terrace which I could access from a spiral staircase on my balcony.

The bathroom looked brand new, however the shower screen was not nearly big enough to cover the shower and as a result, the floor was flooded everytime I had one.

At night, prostitutes hang around the centre which is opposite the building I was in. Its really not a nice experience coming home with them hanging around!

On my last day while drying my hair, I stepped back and heard a crunch...when I looked down, I saw a massive cockroach that I had just stood on...not happy!

It's cheap. But there are other cheap places in Gran Can. This one is postivley grotty and the rooms are desperately in need of renovation. This is by far the worst apartment I have ever stayed in, it was dirty and I would never consider booking it again.

I can say that this hotel is not best I've ever been in, but when you only want to use your room for sleeping,it's a perfect place. The buildings and the rooms are pretty old, and our room was small, especially the bathroom. But it was also well equipped, although we had two single bed whcih had different sizes, but anyway it didn't matter at all. Anyway the room was clean and luckily we didn't have any cockroaches or other animals in the room. The best thing is absolutely the pool! It's big and there's also a really cool pool bar. Our room was just a few meters away from that, so we were very happy with that. Anyway the hotel has a great location, it's right next to Kasbah, and everything what you would need (shops, beach, etc...) when you're on holiday is in the near. The staff who we met was nice and friendly, although in the mornings they were working sometimes a little bit too noisy, but if you're a heavy sleeper, you definetely wouldn't wake up for that. I think, it's a good place if you're young and want to have a holiday with your friends.

Room Tip: If you have the chance, ask for a room close to the pool!

Stayed in Koka Apartments last month. The room it was on the 4th floor with a nice view, pool and the sea. So really nice view. The staff is to die for. Really rude! The night staff, they won the competion and i dare to called them the rudest in Gran Canaria. I even asked for a manager. And of course I got no manager. The cleaning staff you can seen them in pictures. So if you are lucky and you meet them in person dont forget to ask them for toillet paper.
The WiFi is a bit expensive, 20euros for 7 days (for 5 days plus 2 days free). No WiFi or no good WiFi signal in the bedroom.
In general the place was OK, not the worse, not the best. 2 lifts. A coffee bar by the pool. Good selection of sandwitches and friendly italian staff.

Great location, terrible apartment. The minute we opened our door we had a visitor (cockroach) not exactly something you want to get off a long flight to, and had many more visitors through our 10 day stay. Receptionist didn't even care when we told them either. Had to pay 1 euro to watch tele in your own room and porn was on it.. Staff at pool very friendly but all in all was not a holiday don't waste your money
