“Top Hotel And Helpful Travel Rep”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2012

I stayed in this lovely all inclusive hotel for 2 weeks in early June. The hotel was currently undergoing a refurbishment. We asked if we could change our room as we had a room on the side of the hotel. We asked for help from our travel rep Melissa and were able to swap our room after 2 nights. Whenever we needed any help or advice we always found Melissa very pleasant and helpful. The pool area is the best I have ever known, as it has plenty of sun loungers, and there are plenty of participation activities going on. The food was excellent, and as we were all inclusive, there was always plenty to choose from no matter whether it was breakfast, lunch or evening meal time. There were also snacks available in a poolside bar with a good choice or sandwiches, burgers, hotdogs, cakes etc. You can help yourself to drinks up to 11 pm. Would definitely go back to this lovely, well maintained hotel. There is also a nice walk along a pedestrian walkway down to the beach near Maspolomas, although for those who are not into walking, it is around 25 minutes away, there are a choice of steps or a lift down to the beach at the end of the pedestrian walkway.

wanted some sun after rubbish summer without costing the earth, considering the price we paid i expected a lot worse and was very suprised at how nice the hotel was, i'll start with the negatives nothing major really 1. no air con(open the slats beside your doors onto balcony solves problem) 2. it is a bit further out than i thought ie from yumbo(but taxi's are very cheap £.2.50 each way)3. entertainment so so at best. 4 you cant refil water bottles at drinks dispencer( i took a glass of water to my room each night no one said anything and a litre to buy from local shop = 50p)
now the positives 1. the pools are really nice. 2. food pleanty of variety prime cuts of meat fresh veg and fruit cheeses and sweets. plenty of choice alchol wise red wine suprisingly good premium brands at a cost but really no difference in taste, cocktails available as part of a i.3 the rooms are spacious and although not uber modern are tidy bathroom is better than average and always plenty of hot water.4 our room was cleaned every day and could've had clean towels each day if we wanted too.
to summise this hotel is very good and would have no qualms staying there again and would give it 7 out of 10

Having just returned from a 2 week break at the hotel, all I can say is that I feel I was totally mis-sold a holiday. There was a group of 18 ages ranging from 5 up to 64. The hotel its self was clean, pools beautiful, the problem started with the entertainment for adults and children alike there was NONE! Unless you like making paper aeroplanes which the children are not allowed to take part in. It seemed that smiling and having fun was against hotel rules, also AI hours are beyond belief once you have visited the breakfast room you couldn't get a coffee or drink until 11 and breakfast finished at 10:30am. My partner one day thought he'd take a coffee out onto the terrace and got called into the hotel manager’s office and then spent the rest of the holiday being victimised by staff. FOOD diabolical unless you’re German, our party spent a great deal of time and money eating out and going to find entertainment! If you have young children or enjoy a good time do not go to this hotel at any cost, also I have spoken to many families who felt the same whilst there. You have been warned.

Room Tip: Request a high room so you can sleep with the balcony door open as there is no air con.

Dear guest,
we regret that you did not find the hotel as good as you expected, altough we tried to do all we could to make it better. After the conversation I had with you, I guess that you finally reserved the wrong hotel for your holidays and I would like to express my point of view in this sense.
The Ifa Continental hotel provides some kind of entertainment but it is not the typ of hotel or resort where you can enjoy a huge sort of sport activities and shows.
As you could see during your stay, we offer 4 sport activities for adults in the morning and 4 in the afternoon, although the activities for children are only available during main school holidays (Easter, Christmas and summer -july and august-), as you could read in all catalogues of the hotel. In the evenings, we offer some live music or shows and short activities like bingo or quiz for about 2 hours. The hotel entertainment consists just on this.
I have to say that we tried to make your holiday as pleasant as possible by offering you some options: changing the hotel or staying in Continental changing some activities of the programme. One adult activity in the mornign and in the afternoon would be cancelled to be able to open the miniclub for your children two hours a day (we had at that time 10 children in the whole hotel, 7 of them were yours) but you did no accept this offer as you though was not enough. Taking all these things into account, I guess that, as I said before, you selected the wrong hotel as we could never offer the services you would expect to receive.
Regarding the incident of your friend when he took the coffee out of the restaurant, I would like to clarify that I just wanted to explain him the reasons to not be allowed to take coffee or other food out of the restaurant. I regret the stressful situation caused in the moment you went out of the restaurant and I hope you will be able to excuse us.
Finally, I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to show my view in this sense.
Yours sincerely

hi there not much was wrong with my holiday in fact i would have gave if 5 out of 5 if it was not for the hotel.the hotel was very very nice the staff were pleasant the only thing that was wrong was is their wasn't much for the kids at the pool side.i have an eight year old girl and when we booked the holiday we were told & also shown kids slide's into the pool but when we got thier they were taken away and the kids are told not to take lilos or floats into the pool so it was a bit boring for the kids. now for the good side of my holiday the food at the hotel was very good i will give that 9 out of 10 because i am very fussy but i got something to eat everyday.now for the area it was great the beach and the waves unbeliveable. then u have a 5 minute walk to the kasba centre thier is plenty of shops and pubs and there was music being played and some of the local's were dancing it was quite good to watch and last but not least you have the yumbo centre only 3 euro 50 well worth a look

this was our second time in playa del ingles and our first at this hotel. on arrival the reception staff were efficient if not especially helpful, however we had arrived mid evening and the hotel made a cold platter of food available in the restaurant, which was welcome.

the rooms were spacious and well equiped except for the lack of air conditioning or a ceiling fan. at the time of year end august / beginning of september these are essential, even sleeping with the bacony doors open didn't make a difference. fans were available to hire in reception, but should this be an option only?

The restaurant food was great with plenty of choice and attentive staff and the bar staff were pleasant despite the hassle they had from some of the all inclusive guests (we were half board) who didn't read the bar menu properly and thought any drink was free.

the hotel is well positioned close to beaches, shops, bars restaurants, taxi ranks and the bus station.

overall this is a good hotel but i probably wouldn't use it again unless the rooms had had aircon installed

Room Tip: all the rooms are very much the same but i would recommend a sea view on a high floor

Just returned from a weeks break at the IFA Continental and having stayed ina round 6/7 All Inclusive hotels over the years of the same star rating I can quite easily say that the Continental is the best so far.

We arrived around 1pm and were given a very warm welcome by the reception staff who were extremely friendly and helpful in any initial questions that we may have had. It even made us comment as we left the reception desk that it was the best welcome from any hotel we had ever received.

We were on the top floor (7th) of the hotel as we had booked a sea view, there were 3 lifts to the floors of which you never had any problems getting straight into the lift. The room was extremely spacious with two single beds pushed together with small settee and living area in the room. Wardrobe was clean and had ample of coat hangers to ensure you could hang all of you clothes. Balcony was spacious with chairs and table and also washing line which was good and also helps the hotek aesthetically as people don't hang their towels from the balcony. Plenty of literature in your room providing you with all the information you need to know about your stay. Bathroom was clean and tidy with bath and shower. Beds were relatively comfortable. Although a lot of people mentioned their was no air-con, I did not find it unbairable during the night, leaving the balcony door open colled it down a little. Maids cleaned the rooms daily and were very friendly, we had a problem with our key one day and the maid was very happy to help us out. Towels were replaced if you left then in the bath.

Hotel clean in general, on many occasions you would see the carpets being cleaned, the pool area was cleaned properly daily, and cleaners were constantly in reception sweeping.

Food was really quite good, better than a lot of All-Inc's with plenty of variety to choose from, I personally just get a little fed up of the food when I stay all-inc but this year that wasn't really the case. Snacks available during breakfast and lunch, again a good variety, and again for an hour after lunch and before dinner. Drinks including soft drinks, local beer and wines were on a self served basis which was good as queues were never really that big, spirits were ordered by the bar, however cocktails were already prepared so you never had to wait long at all to get a drink.

Entertainment was quite good. The lady (apologies I can't remember her name) was really good and a credit to the team, she communicated well with people of all ages and nationalities and went out of her way to make sure everyone enjoyed the entertainment. Athough we didn't participate, activities were available throughout the whole day including Aqua Gym, Water Polo, Darts, Poker and much more. Evening entertainment was okay, few acts not so good as others but thats down to personal preference.

Locations was good, pretty much one of the first drop offs from the airport, around 25 minute transfer to the resort, this hotels is not in the centre of PLaya Del Ingles, however does have a couple of bars and a smaller shopping centre right next to it, just a little quieter at night which is not a bad thing. 5 minute walk to the beach and around 15 minutes to the centre. It is also flat so no climbing up hills or banks.

Would like to thank all the staff at the Continental for a wonderful stay and should we return to Gran Canaria we would definitely consider returning to this hotel!
