“Would definitely return!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 November 2012

Stayed for a week in October as a grown up family.

At check-in the Hotel take a scan of your passport. My birthday happened to be during our stay and without any of my family asking the hotel organised for a bottle of fizz for my room with a letter from the hotel wishing me a Happy Birthday. This was completely unexpected and so generous!

Hotel location is great. Only a few mins walk from the beach, a 10 min walk to Kasbah and 15 min walk to the Yumbo centre. Taxis are also incredibly cheap in playa del ingles.

Although the hotel was busy, we never felt it was too busy - always finding space by the pool or a nice table for dinner.

The food was fantastic. Such a great mix. We stayed for a week and really didn't find it repetative at all. There's a fantastic sald bar, a huge selection of cooked and cold meats. There's something for everyone. Dinner staff were exceptional.

The maids did such a good job. Our rooms were always immacuately cleaned every day and the hotel itself was absolutely spotless.

I'm really embarassed that UK travellers have commented there were too many Germans at the hotel. If they'd looked around properly they'd have seen that there was a huge mix of different countries in the hotel - it is an international hotel. We loved this, the staff are all talented at speaking a variety of languages and it was alot of fun playing bingo in french, english, spanish and german!

Only now realised reading other peoples reviews that there was no air-conditioning. Really suprised to read that as the hotel was always nice and cool!

Can't give enough praise to IFA continental. We'll definitely return.

Thank you.

Just got back from Ifa Continental and had an enjoyable stay. Regarding the lack of air-con or fans. We were aware of this from the brochure and so, went armed with a small fan - sorted! I did think that there should have been drinking water available more readily. I need water every night to take medication and it doesn't seem right that I had to buy it from a machine on my room floor when I've paid for all inclusive. You are not meant to take drinks to your room and obviously can't drink the tap water??
The Germans didn't bother us. If they stared, we stared back. If they pushed in, we did the same. They seemed to have early dinner sitting and so, hogged the pole positions in the entertainment room. It didn't bother us because we chose to go out each evening. We are all born under the same sky but we're all different.
The hotel is spotless and it's nice to have some culture and standards of dress code and etiquette. We would definitely go back to this hotel and the staff are spot on

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for your time on doing this report!
We appreciate your comments on your views because you give us the opportunity to know how we did and how we can do better.
All Inclusive service works from 11.00am to 11.00pm, as you know. It is true that this is not a 24h all inclusive hotel and we also do not provide mineral water in bottles. Although, you can have a glass of water from the bar before going to bed, I am going to pass your suggestion to the hotel management with pleasure.
At the other side, I congratulate you on your open-mind. In my opinion, it is very important in current times to understand or at least to accept that we are all different in the eyes of others.
Yours sincerely

We stayed for one week all inclusive October 2012. Average temp 28C all week which was great with a nice breeze. The hotel reception staff were kind and helpful as was every maid we met in the corridors. They never stopped cleaning! Pool area is huge with three separate areas surrounded by trees. The main pool and kids pool get the sun first, but the smaller pool warms up quicker and, as we went at the end of the season, we had no trouble getting a sunbed, even in the afternoon. Food is plentiful - yes some dishes appear every day, but there is always something new - loads of fruit and salad. Fish and meat being cooked fresh in front of you. Limited drinks options on all inclusive, but the lager was good, plenty of coke, 7up, sparkling water etc and some wine plus hot drinks - I still think for what most guests actually pay, you get a pretty good deal. You could eat and drink all day if you wanted to. Take a left out of the hotel entrance and there is a short road to the beach; turn right out of the hotel entrance and across the zebra crossing you have the bus station to pretty much anywhere and a small shopping centre (buy water, postcards etc here - much cheaper than hotel shop). From here you can walk along a promenade by the beach to Playa Del Ingles beach. It's a huge beach with loads of shops and restaurants. Beware - as you head along the promenade (takes about 20min - great views) African ladies will try to engage you in conversation and shake your hand - they then put a bracelet on you and demand money (we saw this happening to men too!). Just keep your hands in your pocket or hold something. If you ignore them they'll leave you alone. Don't let it put you off heading to playa del ingles beach. We walked everywhere, even to the Yumbo shopping centre, about a 4 mile round trip. However the hotel will call you a taxi any time and they're very cheap, as are the buses. Head to the Yumbo in the afternoon - we went at 10am and of course not many shops had opened yet! Rooms at the IFA Continental are dated but we didn't spend much time in our room. It was very clean and the balcony was lovely. Men must wear trousers for evening meal. Only downside is that the evening entertainment is pretty rubbish but worth a laugh. It depends what sort of holiday you're after, but we're a couple in our mid twenties and just wanted to relax from work, read, sunbathe, do some swimming, shopping and strolling to the beach and it suited us perfectly.

We stayed here for 1 week from 24th September this year. We didn't really know what to expect from reading the Tripadvisor reviews, so thought we would go with an open mind.
The plus's are that the hotel is spotlessly clean, we went for the all inclusive option (which we had never tried before), and the food was very good and in plentiful supply - the all inclusive option is between 11am - 11pm. You could be the pickiest of eaters and always find something you would like. Yes, as some reviews have stated, there were usually chips on offer - but that doesn't mean that you HAVE to eat them! The weather was also brilliant, the beach was a short walk away and was nice and clean, however, as we'd paid for all inc, we didn't see the point in spending €5 for a small cup of lemonade at the beach! plus paying for sunbeds, therefore majority of the time we stayed by the poolside. We stayed on the 4th floor and although the room was a little dated, the balcony was huge and kept very clean every day by the maid. As everyone has already mentioned, we had no aircon, but we were fully aware of this before we had booked and during our stay we left the balcony door open during the night, so sleeping was not a problem - not really sure how this would fair during the hotter months?
Now for the downsides......The hotel was overrun by German tourists, we are not anti-German in any way, however, it was geared very much toward pleasing them. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them were quite rude, particularly during mealtimes and sunbed hogging - you needed to be down queueing at the door by 7.50 if you wanted a particular spot by the pool.
We did find that the hours of the all inclusive were restrictive, with the final evening servings ending at 9pm. Maybe this is how all inc's work? but we would rather have a little more flexibility - then again, like we said we hadn't done all inc before this trip.
The evening entertainment was not the best, seeming to cater for the more elderly customers, apart from our last night, when there were some tropical birds bought in. There was also no fridge or tea and coffee making facilities in the room, this wasn't ideal as if you purchased bottles of water from outside the hotel, these were warm by the evening.
All in all, for the price we paid for our holiday, it was good - however, we probably wouldn't rush back.

Room Tip: if you need to sleep with the balcony doors open as we did, you will need a higher up room

Aggree with other travelers coments you are dictated to in this hotel all the time. Worst hotel we have ever stayed in,,, No drinks out of dining or pool area,, Trousers in restaurant although women can wear hot pants,, No fans in restaurant or air conditioning made it impossibnle for me to enjoy my dinner sitting in trousers in a 3 star hotel that thinks it is 5 star. The main food was good but snacks were terrible unless you like Tuna,, tuna at every snack time with no butter on the bread,,You cannot have tea and coffee at lunchtime in the dinning hall as they close the machines off... Alcohall in the All Inclusive was disgusting,, Wost I have ever tasted,,, The entertainment was terrible and always finished very early,, if you were lucky enough to get in and get a seat because all teh germans get in first,,, they get the sunbeds first too,, and there were very few sunbeds actualy in the sun,, most were under shade of buildings or trees.... Pools dont get sunshine until around lunchtime so if you want to come here in morning you sit in shade for the duration.

You are not allowed balls, sunloungers in pool, even if you pull yourself up onto the jetty area it is not allowed,, felt as if we were kids being told to sit on naughty step all the time..

We felt we were treaed like prisioners in this hotel with all their rules,, Never ever again wil we visit IFA hotels Worst Hotel we have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Our room faced the main road dual carriage way and the noise was non stop,

Dear guest,
I would like to thank you for the time taking on writing these comments based on your stay in hotel Ifa Continental at Gran Canaria. First of all, I would like to remark that we are aware of our hotel category and so that, we try to adapt the services to that.
I would like to comment briefly about the rules that they help us to ensure the coexistence between the 700 people that could be staying at the hotel at the same time. With these rules we can try to avoid disturbes from a client to another (balls in the pool) and even accidents with irreversible consequences (spinal injuries on bad crashes). At the same time, with these rules we optimize our internal organization.
We always will try to avoid risks in our facilities as this is our responsability.
At the other side, if you have any suggestions or comments regarding different services of the hotel, I will be pleased to attend you by mail or phone.
Please, do not hesitate to contact me on continental@ifahotels.com or 0034 928760033.
Thank you very much for your time!
Yours sincerely

On the plus side, this was a very clean Hotel, and the food was good , but a bit samey after a while. On the not so good side, no air conditioning anywhere. We went in October, so the heat was quite bad, but to go earlier in the year must be unbearable. Too many rules!!! You're not allowed to take your drink in or out of the dining hall. They would rather you waste it. So if you have a drink at the bar before dinner, you,re not allowed to transfer it with you into dinner. Daft! Many drinks were left wasted. It's not like you had bought them from outside. Same applied during the day. No drinks or food allowed to be taken to your room. Not allowed to fill your water bottle up from the self service taps, even though you are all inclusive. Trousers MUST be worn for dinner ( men only). My Husband had only taken shorts, as this was not mentioned on line or in the brochure. The dining hall had to lend my Husband some waiters trousers to wear for the week. We found it hard to believe in the 21st century that they make men wear trousers ( jeans accepted), but women could go in in hot pants. My Husbands shorts were smart worn with a shirt, so respectable, but they were very strict on this. A security guard would wait at the entrance/exit to the Dining hall, stopping anyone from leaving with food or drink. Someone tried to get out with a cup of water, but was stopped. We felt like we were treated like school children half the time. No lilos or any blow ups were allowed in the pools either. Someone was constantly watching to enforce the rules. Also, too many Germans. The hotel was majority German. For us this was another downside. The entertainment was rubbish. All inclusive ended at 11p.m, normally 12 p.m anywhere else we;d been. All in all, we were glad to come home, which was a shame as it Is such a lovely clean Hotel and the staff were nice too, but all these things ruined it. For us it felt like they purposely made the entertainment rubbish, so people wouldn't drink there. By 11p.m it emptied out. We were sitting outside chatting one night. It was only 11.45p.m, and they started turning the lights off. We felt we were dictated to too much. It was more like a prison camp than a hotel. We,ll never ever use IFA hotels again. Although my Husband was impressed with the self service beer tap. But, I liked to have a short with my evening meal. This was not allowed. It was beer , wine or a soft drink until you left the hall. Plus, you couldn't have tea or coffee with your lunch. They covered the machines over every lunchtime. Dictation again. You weren't allowed to take a tea in with you either. To cap it all, the beds were like sleeping on the floor. The pillows too were hard. My back started to hurt after a couple of nights. Hotel had 2 major roads behind it, and was very noisy at all times.

Dear guest,
It is sad to me to read that on 21st century, as you have said, there are still persons unable to share a few days during their short holidays with persons from a different country or culture.
When you go abroad, some aspects should be taken into account and one of them is this. This is an international hotel and we are really pleased that people from different parts of the world choose us to enjoy their vacations: chinese, britain, german, italian, russian, swedish, ethiopian, etc, etc, all of you are wellcome to stay in Ifa Continental.
Regarding the rules, we are working on improving the services to try to eliminate or modify some of them that bother our guests in general, but we won't be able to eliminate all, as some help us to guarantee a good coexistence between guests, avoid disturbes and to organize our own service.
We thank you for your understanding in this way and I put myself at your disposal in case you have further suggestions or comments regarding your last stay at Ifa Continental.

After having a really difficult year, we 'hubby and me' just needed a little winter 'sun'..... and we go it.!!!!!!!!!!!!
We stayed for 1 week at the 'Continental' and we were'nt disappointed with anything. Ok did'nt sleep too well first night ( not your own bed). but plenty of time to 'sleep' by one of the Pools. As the temprature reached 31 and more degrees the pools were very inviting.

Hotel was fab, food was excellent and plenty of choice :- from fresh salads, fresh fruit, choice of carved meats and fish.....All cooked fresh on the griddle as you were serverd. As I am Gluten Free - I had no difficulties......Just needed 'an English Sausage'....!!!!
The hotel was at the quieter end of the town but that wasn't an issue, as an evening walk after your 'dinner' was lovely.
Staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Would I return O M G YES.... searching the Web already..xxxx
My daughter will be coming next time..

Room Tip: no air-con did'nt miss it. First floor, corner, view looked down to the road to the promena...
