I have just spent two very pleasant weeks over Xmas and New Year at the IFA Continental Hotel in Gran Canaria. From Senor Martin on Reception through all the staff there is a friendly welcome where nothing is too much trouble. The rooms, pools, grounds and public areas are all very well maintained and there are excellent facilities for both couples and families. In addition the Entertainment team are very happy, friendly and good fun to be around. Obviously during December the rooms did not require air-con but in the summer months I would imagine this would be essential so this needs to be factored into the cost consideration. Overall though a very pleasant place to stay and if I were to go back to Gran Canaria I would stay there again.

Nice hotel with excellent cuisine (that´s important for me), large rooms, surpising pools and outdoor whirpool - and all this in quiet area of Playa del Ingles. I would like to come back again. (But I had a little problem with missing fridge in the room.)

we stayed at ifa continental over the new year period 13/14 on all inclusive basis. the hotel is clean but basic considering the all inclusive we didnt have water in room or tea making facilities you have to go down to the resturant for it where they tell you not to take drinks out of there. would be better if tea, coffee and juice was available in lobby area for early risers as machines are turned off in this area till 17.30.

food good can get repetitive,of ok standard, b/fast same everyday.

rooms cleaned everyday and towels changed but maids did wake us up every 2 days at 5am hoovering carpet in corridor dont know why they cant do this when cleaning rooms.

entertainment team olga and jono work very hard, but nighttime acts hotel bring in are not that great.. parrot show was good tho

pool is freezing and only a few brave people used it,also some cracks in smaller pool so watch where you put your feet and be careful pool area very slippery same with lobby area 1 lady fell and had too go hospital then spend hours at reception sorting insurance out

all in all hotel was clean, staff friendly and close to beach and shopping centres,10 mins to plaza and kasbar for nightlife, short taxi ride to yumbo

Room Tip: all rooms seem to be facing the road except 1st floor even then only a few face the pool

We stayed at the IFA in November 2013 and booked it as an all inclusive deal with First Choice. We chose this hotel because it was in a great location - easy walking distance of both the gay beach on Maspalomas and near to the Yumbo Centre but not too close to hear all the noise.

The hotel itself is not very pretty from the outside but once you go through the entrance things improve substantially - very large reception area with comfortable seating and plenty of hotel staff to welcome you. The reception staff were all friendly and helpful (later we found that even the morning cleaners would say hello and smile).

Our room was very large, immaculately clean and came with a small fridge - which was very handy. The beds were comfortable and the bed were made up every morning. The bathroom was large with a good powerful shower. We had a balcony which looked out on to the hotel gardens and the main road - but that wasn't a problem as the hotel is located away from the Yumbo Centre.

There was food available all day with sittings for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The range of food on offer was huge, everything was fresh and some food was cooked in front of you by chefs in a special food hall. Breakfast was definitely a highlight with lots of different breads, cheeses, hot food, cereals, and even cake on offer. When we stayed there the majority of guests were German so there were many dishes to satisfy their tastes.

The hotel has 2 pools with a pool bar which serves free drinks - beer, wine and some spirits. Branded spirits were extra. In the evening there was professional entertainment - when we were stayed there was a Queen tribute group, a Kylie/Madonna impersonator, another night a fashion show - it was all quite entertaining. I think some guests never leave the hotel.

If you want peace and quiet there are numerous spots in the hotel gardens where you can relax on a lounger. On the hotel roof there is a nudists' sundeck. For fitness fans there is a small gym which has weights and treadmills.

To sum up, this is a great value, comfortable hotel where you don't need to worry about what and where you are going to eat in the evenings. I have been to Playa many times and have always stayed in self-catering accommodation, however, I would definitely do all inclusive again. Having food provided in the hotel takes away the headache of looking for somewhere to eat and, to be honest, the quality of restaurants in Playa is not great anyway and the food in the hotel was better than most of the restaurants in the area. If you get a good deal from your travel agent then going all inclusive can work out the same as staying self-catering.

Room Tip: Rooms on the pool side are noisier than those on the side of the main road.

after arriving at this hotel which was sold to us by tompsons as disabled friendly be aware it is NOT no grab rails in bathrooms, we waited nearly an hour to get checked in, when we got to our rooms no kettles in rooms no extractor fans in rooms so if you get hot and open your patio door in the night it is very noisy from buses pulling up and taxis very loud germans food very bland food carpets lifting on the fitth floor where had water damage very rude receptionist and no hot water on and off for three days where there was a leak in a pipe. ants in rooms. You PAY for kettles wifi safe tv 8 euros and you only get 6 channels 5 in spanish 1 news channel in english, hairdriers. (Inclusive) but drinks alcholic/soft drinks after 11 you payfor if you tip the waiters and your on inclusive you are ok but if you dont they dont want to know they tell you it is self service ,very outdated entertainment not good and very cold on the night as it is open on three sides, the only good thing really was that the bedrooms were clean and had a balcony. (The tompson rep Hannah was next to useless but that is another issue altogether and being dealt with by tompsons). not cheap as over xmas period. had on average 3 hours sleep a night due to noise from traffic and german guests running up and down corridors playing knock on doors and drunk. outside is tiled and very slippy when raining althought he hotel when asked said to us that they are not "disabled friendly" "no baby changing facilities" the beach has a lot of steps to go down so not good and if u need a mobility scooter make sure you book well in advance as 4 day min hire and none available even though we were told to just hire when we got out there. would not go back !!!!

Room Tip: choose another hotel

Food good..staff friendly and helpful. Food very repetitive but they have to cater for all europeans. Pool area clean BUT a lot of shade...only limited number of sun beds in sun. Majority of time sun beds in shade. Quality of food good but not that hot....on a plus note there is a microwave available to use. Queues at mealtimes but what do you expect from a large hotel that is all exclusive. Not much to do at night at the hotel and very little to do outside. Near the gay area of Playa de Ingles so advised by reps to avoid this area if you were offended. Some seedy areas but get that most holiday areas. Wouldn't go back to that area again but the hotel was fine.
