“Almost heaven...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2014

End of January I spent 7 days at Bohemia Suites on Gran Canaria. It was my second visit at this fantastic hotel and again I had a great time there. As mentioned in earlier reviews, especially the friendliness of the staff is really overwhelming and definitely makes the hotel unique. Service is absolutely top-notch - from the very first moment when you arrive at the hotel until check-out. Everything was almost heaven…

Everybody who loves contemporary design and modern elegance should feel comfortable at Bohemia. The rooms and suites are beautifully designed in three different color schemes: gold, orange, purple. This time I had a double room with ocean view on 5th floor with golden colors. Really nice, although I preferred the purple one I had in November. For me as a single traveler the double room fitted perfectly, equipped with a very comfortable bed, spacious rain shower and entertainment system based on an Apple iMac with 27“ monitor. For two persons, the narrow rooms might be a little bit cramped, because one side of the bed stands very close to the wall, so that you can only enter from the other side. So, if one can afford, better to choose a junior suite or even a suite.

Another highlight for me was the daily breakfast. It is true, that the choice is a bit limited, but who really needs ten different sorts of cheese? Everything on the buffet was fresh and of great quality. I especially enjoyed the salty rolls and the self-made raspberry jam, very yummy! Also the egg specialties, served to the table, were really delicious as well as the cappuccino or the press coffee. Last but not least, the spectacular view over the Dunes of Maspalomas and the Atlantic Ocean from the panoramic restaurant made every breakfast special. The perfect start to another sunny day on Gran Canaria.

Again I booked the room only to include breakfast, because I don´t like the daily routine of half board and prefer to eat in different places in the evening (and there are some really good restaurants at Playa del Inglés). For me that was definitely the right decision, particularly because Bohemia offers half board dinner on daily basis for 35 euros. Twice I made use of this offer and both times the 3-course-dinner (no buffet!) was absolutely delicious. Especially the banana cream with pineapple puree was a dream! But to be honest, on special occasions I enjoy this kind of „haute cuisine“, but not every day. Sometimes I prefer a juicy steak or a crispy pizza. Therefore, although the dinner was really delicious, I would never book half board at Bohemia

All in all Bohemia doesn`t come cheaply, but the hotel definitely has much to offer, for example:
- Adult only concept (only bookable for persons 18+).
- Complimentary wellness area with two Finish Saunas, steam bath, ice fountain, shower experiences and outside lounge area.
- Professional fitness area with state-of-the-art equipment from Technogym (3 ergometers, 3 cross-trainers, 2 treadmills, multifunction machine, etc.).
- WiFi with free high-speed internet access at the entire hotel.
- Free video channel on the entertainment center.
- Free room safe.
- Daily turn down service with free bottle of water.
- Daily newspaper of choice delivered to the room (Spanish, English, German, French).

Furthermore, the Bohemia has a very impressive Thai spa, the Siam Spa. But treatments are really expansive, so I didn`t make use of it.

Would I return? Surely, in a heartbeat! But only if the price is right. There are other excellent hotels nearby, like for example the Lopesan Villa del Conde at Meloneras. I would accept a certain premium for the fantastic service at Bohemia, but it should not be too high.

P.S.: Special thanks to Stephanie for her kind assistance regarding my reservation and Juan for his excellent breakfast service!

Have just returned from a 10 day stay & will be rebooking ! The Bohemia team are professional , efficient but above all one of the friendliest & helpful teams we have had the pleasure to experience . Nothing was too much trouble for anyone no matter our requests .The top floor restaurant & bar views are outstanding . The Breakfast choice & quality was excellent with an extensive mix of cold buffet, artisan breads & hot food freshly cooked to your requirements . We booked Half Board & were pleased we had done so . However the evening menu was very limiting with an emphasis on shellfish , seafood & meats . This suited me perfectly but my husband struggled , however , chef provided alternatives for him .We felt the menu choice " let down " the hotel - the wine menu however was extensive . We stayed in a standard room which was rather on the small side but had some unique design features to make best use of the space . A nice touch was a birthday cake from the team on my special day . Overall a thoroughly enjoyable & comfortable stay for a relaxing Winter sun break . We will be going back !

Room Tip: If you prefer sunshine on your terraceivor sunrise , afternoon until mid afternoon then upgrade to a...

A quite magnificent stay in a beautiful property. We stumbled upon Bohemia while searching for somewhere relaxing for a week away sans children. And what a find!
The hotel is chic in what is otherwise not a terribly chic area, the fit-out of the highest standard, the spa treatments superb, the sauna and steam-rooms the equal of any top quality hotel chain and the staff not only helpful, smart and charming but all immaculate!
Breakfasts taken in the 360 restaurant were simply spectacular - the view over the dunes and the sea utterly breath-taking. Poached eggs, hams, freshly baked bread and freshly squeezed juices with home-made jams and curds. And a glass of champagne if you liked too - an added-extra for us on Valentine's day!
The other added extras like a bag with towels and water to go to the beach (the sea was lovely to swim in - even in early February) and the towels being on every lounger at the pool makes for a relaxed day. The staff around the pool, particularly one lady, were again charming, happy and always willing to help.
Antonio, Stephanie and Alessandro were simply terrific at the front desk booking not only local restaurants and taxis but our transfer and offering advice on local things to see and do. All in perfect English (but they also seemed to speak German as well as their native tongue!).
We did have one meal at the 360 which was not as good as we had hoped but I would not allow this to take the glister off what was otherwise a perfect 10 in every way.

Room Tip: Take the tour! We didn't (wanted to start our champagne!) and missed the steam room spa in the...

We've just stayed a week at the Bohemia Suites and were very pleased that we did. It would be more at home in Maspalomas or Meloneras but as it is, it has to be the jewel in Playa's crown. As stylish and well equipped as the hotel is, it's really the lovely staff that are its best asset. Everyone was charming, smiling and helpful; Antonio, Stephanie and Juan get particular mentions but really everyone was excellent. Minor gripes were the turn down service was a bit haphazard - one day it'd be 7pm, before we'd gone out, another it wouldn't be done by 9.20pm. We also had someone's else's dinner added to our bill but that was quickly and courteously sorted out and we were charged for a minibar item we hadn't had, also quickly sorted. A bin in the room would be useful too (there was only a tiny one in the toilet). Overall though, highly recommended.

We got a great offer in january with room upgrade half board upgrade and 100 euro credit this tempted us back to Gran Canaria. The hotel was everything we hoped fantastic staff, the outstanding guy was called Antonio he was super friendly always smiling and helpful as were the rest of the staff both in reception and in the restaurant. I adore the meals which were very eclectic my better half was not quite as enthusiastic but still enjoyed . Hotel fantastic and was the highlight of visit along with a trip to Mogan and a ride into the hills in our hire car. Yumbo centre is dire along with a lot of the other bars they seem to think putting football on tv is enough entertainment.......

Amazing, one of the best hotels I have stayed in. Fantastic staff, always smiling and very helpful. Location is great as it is a quiet area, but still close to everything including the beach. The pool area is great with heated pool (25 degrees) and spa (30 degrees). The restaurant (360) on the top floor is overlooking the hole of Playa del Ingles with great bar - fantastic!

The last time I was in Playa del Ingles was about 15 years ago and I decided not to go again as there was nowhere decent to stay. This has now changed with the Bohemia Suites and Spa and their excellent ans attentative staff. I had a junior suite with ocean view and it was lovely. The room measured about 20 feet by 30 feet and the front is all glazed to take full benefit of the view of the dunes. I had wondered if the curtains would cut out enough light at night but they are very well fitting blackout material and the room was in total darkness, apart from the 12 standby type lights ! I soon covered them up !
I also counted 24 light switches, completely over the top and I never did work them all out !
The television, that I had problems with that were efficiently and cheerfully sorted out by Antonio, had many channels including British news, which was good.
The wellness centre is amazing, with numerous exercise machines and 2 saunas, steam room plunge pool and ice. With no requirement to wear a costume it was far more relaxing than the stuffy spas in the UK. I enjoyed the hotel so much that I am returning next month !
Other postings have mentioned the number of steps that have to be negotiated to reach the beach, although this is correct it is nothing to do with the hotel. The area is hilly and unfortunately is not suitable for those with limited mobility. The local shopping centre, Yumbo, has steps everywhere and I did not see any lifts. It has to be admitted that Playa del Ingles is not a classy resort, but it has a relaxed feeling to it and while I was there the weather was lovely.

Room Tip: All good rooms, but the best have to be a junior suite with ocean view.
