“First time in gran canaria at a fantastic hotel”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

We booked a week all inclusive holiday at the Escorial for a summer break & to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday & we had a really fantastic time.

The transfer time is approximately 30mins from the airport & the hotel is good location with just a 5 min walk to the promenade & the various beach bays & the gorgeous views of the sea & Maspolamos Sand Dunes in the distance.

We found the rooms at the Escorial to be a good size with large balconies &, with fresh towels provided every 2 days & the rooms were immaculately clean as is the whole hotel. The staff were all very friendly & helpful & we were so impressed with the facilities the hotel offered. We explored the hotel on our first day & went straight to the roof top terrace with jacuzzi & soaked in the stunning views across the town & with the beautiful beach & the Sand Dunes in the distance. In the centre of the hotel, the mini golf is located where you can hire clubs & balls from reception. In the basement we discovered the hotel's Wellness Centre which provides various different therapies, massages etc & offers a free treatment, the colour therapy room was very relaxing lying on waterbeds watching the rainbow of soft colours & mellow music playing in the background. There is a further jacuzzi, a swimming pool & an amazing spa pool with sea water - you can float in this pool all day it's superb & very relaxing. We used the gym a few times & the games room down stairs which had a variety of snooker, billiards, fussball tables, 10 pin bowling, table tennis & several computers for guests to use.

We really enjoyed the food which offered a great selection for breakfast, lunch & dinner, all served in a Buffett style with live cooking of fresh meat, fish, pasta, omelettes, creps etc & freshly squeezed orange juice. The hotel caters for vegetarians although could have some more variety for example leave out fish in some of the prepared salad platters , varying the main vegetarian meals etc - however there is generally a good choice to suit all tastes. The restaurant is well laid out, with an adjoining conservatory area & you can dine outside if preferred.

There are 2 main pools with plenty of sun beds & you can sunbath in the gardens, where a children's pool is available, tennis court, billiards tables & table tennis . There is entertainment during the day & also in the evening which caters for children & main performances at night - although we felt the entertainment could be better.

On my boyfriend's birthday we went for a camel ride & spent the day at the sand dunes, which are a must see then went to the beach before returning to the hotel & to a birthday card & bottle of wine left in the room from the hotel & staff, a really kind & unexpected surprise.

Overall we highly recommend the Escorial & with the facilities offered could easily be a 4 star.

Room Tip: Middle of level 5 was a nice quiet location at night, with the added benefit of the sun shining in t...

I stayed at Hotel Escorial between 2nd and 12th August 2014. I went there with my two teenage boys who are 14 and 16. I have not a bad word to say about this hotel which is rated as 3 star - like others I think it is more like a 4 star. From the minute you walk in this hotel shouts out that it is well run and that the staff are happy in their work. We had a double room with a smaller extra bed for my younger son. The room was clean and tidy and had a safe and a fridge. There was plenty of hot water and it was cleaned daily. The balcony looked out from the rear of the hotel towards the road and the mountains. This was actually great as the balcony got the late afternoon sun at precisely the time when we wanted to sit there before supper. Reception was really efficient and the restaurant was great with a huge amount of choice. We mainly ate the fresh meat and fish and seafood that is cooked to order in front of you. Loads of bread and fruit and good fruit juice. So nice to have freshly squeezed juice with breakfast rather than that vile from concentrate stuff. The beer and white and red wines were all totally fine and the kids could help themselves to a good rage of soft drinks and snacks. The search criteria I used to find the hotel was that it should have a good tennis court and a good gym. Both were great and the hotel pool is lovely as well with plenty of sun loungers. It's quite busy by the pool but there are tots of loungers in the pretty and well maintained grounds. The hotel spa which is inclusive is also excellent with a dead sea pool, a huge indoor spa pool and a good steam room and sauna. Massage treatments are extra. Finally there is a good games room with pool and snooker and table tennis and two bowling lanes. So great food, lovely staff, good drinks and great facilities. Everything is well maintained and nothing is tired or shabby. All round it just feels very happy and generous. I have stayed at all inclusives where the food is grim and the drinks disgusting. Also people are well behaved and there is no drunkeness and the rooms are really nice and quiet in the evening and night. The beach is five mins away on foot and there is a spa shop opposite that sells anything that you might need including English papers. There were mainly German and Dutch families staying here and I can't fault it. My son turned 14 during the holiday and a lovely card and tray of cakes was brought to our room What a lovely touch! A couple of tips - if you want to go on an excursion or two the ones from the hotel are aimed mainly at the Germans and Dutch. We popped to the hotel next do and booked a couple of trips with an English Speaking guide. A trip around the island is well worth it with the dessert dunes of the coast to the pine and fern forests of the high interior. Brilliant. Oh and there is a crazy golf course and a very enthusiastic bloke who organises lots of activities like basket ball and shooting.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the mountains at rear get the late afternoon sun onto the balcony

We stayed at the Escorial from the 14th June 2014 for two week and had the best time ever

The all inclusive starts at 10;30 till midnight and there is plenty of choice

The rooms are quite large with a large balcony and a bathroom with a bath and a shower attachment and also have a hair dryer on the wall. We was facing the motorway but was quite nice as it was quite peaceful at night. However late afternoon the balcony was like an oven due to the heat.

Plenty of wardrobe space for clothes and the TV was free but with a lot of German channels, however the hotel was full of German travellers but all very friendly and we used google translate to communicate.with them which was fun. There are some English guests at the hotel

The have a mini golf and a roof top sunbathing section which got quite hot in the morning but the roof top jacuzzi was a blessing

The also have a well being centre downstairs which had salt baths, jacuzzi, etc which is part, of you all inclusive. You can pay extra for the massages

The food is excellent with different cooking stations and the food wasn't repetitive at all and was delicious

The bar staff are brilliant and so friendly and even gave me milk to take up to my room so I could make a cup tea. (We took our own kettle as there is none in the room)

From the bar the snacks are yummy from steak on the stone which you cooked yourself, burgers, toasties again part of your all inclusive package

There was never a rush for sunbeds and plenty of them and none were reserved which was nice

The games in the day are excellent and consisted of water polo , darts , killer pool, hoopla hooping and if you was lucky enough to win you got a diploma and a medal

They had kids entertainment in the day and evening and adult evening entertainment was fab from drag artists to an act that sang the drifters and many more superb

There are a few bars outside the hotel but as the entertainment was so good we stayed in the hotel and only went out to eat once

All in all a wonderful hotel and more like a 4 star than a 3 star, i would recommend to others

Thanks Escorial for a wonderful holiday

Me and partner stopped at the Escorial in the 1st week of June and have to say the hotel is AMAZING!!
We booked the all-inclusive option and although we're quite fussy eaters, we always found something to eat and I have to say, the live-cooking station was brilliant and always had different meats being cooked daily.
We also found the variety of drinks available to be brilliant as generally, you get 4-5 drinks on a standard all inclusive, but at the Escorial there were around 30-40!!
The rooms are also very spacious and very comfortable to sleep in - we had a mountain side view, which meant we had the late evening sun on our balcony which was nice to relax in. Rooms were also cleaned daily, along with towel changing.
The facilities at the Escorial are out-of-this world. From the roof-top terrace with Jacuzzi to the Spa downstairs and also the dead-pool. The gym is also massive with very good facilities. There are also 10 iMac's to use free of charge and then also pool/snooker/table tennis/bowling and even an outside Tennis Court, which was also free to use!!
We found the staff very pleasant and a particular mention to Gustavo and Angel at the Safari Bar who always had a chat with you etc. The animation team were also great at getting people up and joining in the games - big thumbs up for Freddy!! There was also nightly entertainment as well, which was different every day.
It was my birthday while we stayed at the hotel, and whilst we were out, they left a card, bottle of sparkling wine and 2 glasses in our room, which I though was a very nice touch.

Overall, we had an amazing holiday, and although we weren't very impressed with Playa Del Ingles as a resort, the hotel Escorial more than made up for this and we will definitely be returning!!

Room Tip: We stopped on the 5th floor, which we found to be very quiet.

I returned to this hotel in June 2014, after staying there in June 2013 and May 2012.

The hotel is extremely clean and well presented. Check in was very quick on each occasion with very friendly staff.

The rooms are a little dated but they are very clean and towels are changed on a daily basis, if required.

Food and drink is plentiful on the all inclusive basis. Breakfast is especially good. On each sitting there is live cooking stations so you should always find something you like.

The Spa is absolutely out of this world and free to use. There is also a well equipped gym if you want to work out on holiday.

There is always lots of sun beds available and people don't seem to reserve them and go of without using them. The roof terrace is amazing with great views out to sea which can be taken in while relaxing in the jacuzzi.

Not many children at this hotel each time I have stayed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher floors facing the road to get a sea view. Rooms facing the mountains ge...

Just back from our third visit to Escorial in 21 months. 1st visit was with partner, 2nd with partner and friends, 3rd visit with with partner on family.
On all three occasions the hotel has been amazing. The staff are the best and the food just gets better and better! Wide variety of drinks available and the rooms cleaned to a high standard every day. The solarium is stunning and the wellness centre likewise. Already considering my 4th visit! Ps hope Pepe (one of the waiters) gets well soon and health problems.
Not a great lot for kids to do if they form part of your holiday but we've not had that problem yet.

This at first sight common 3 star hotel on the outside gives you value for money ( as long as you are able to find a good deal and avoid high season crowd. Most of customers are of a certain age or have smaller kids. Staff is used to work with this type of customers but are not agains new forms of life as LGBT couples. Attention NO KING SIZE beds in the entire hotel so not really for honeymooners or active couples ;-)
Extremely friendly staff at reception, restaurant, bar and wellness. The wellness is from the better ever experienced in a hotel and can be compared to facilities of the 5 * categories. Rooftop terrace available with nude zone. All meals are in buffet style bur some life cooking stand make it better when you cannot find your choice at the buffet. There's no a la carte possibility. All in costs 15 Euro/PP/Pday more than the half pension price and includes lots of international and local alcohols between 10.30 and 00hrs. Hotel located close to the beach and after a 5 Euro drive with a cab you can go into the famous dunes... Jumbo center is even closer and you do not stay in the loudly part of Playa des Ingles ;-)

Room Tip: As always the higher you go the quitter your room. choose if you want the morning sun on your terrac...
