“Electronics shop, arrrrrrrggh.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

On our trip to Gran Canaria my friend and I ventured to the nearby Yumbo Centre to browse around shops - peacefully we hoped. No such luck. On admiring a video camera at a bargain rate in the window of an electronics shop we finally found us being the only two customers in a locked shop. The whole experience was surreal, the guys on the door looked like WWE personnel and no way would they move to let us out. Eventually to 'get the hell outta there' we agreed to buy a dearer camera, but more basic than the one in shop window. I made sure I spread the word about this place at our hotel, and a gang on a stag do even had to be dissuaded from visiting the place to act on our behalf
.Needless to say Gran Canaria is off the list for future visits.

“run down but worth a visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014 via mobile

We have been coming here since 2007 and it has suffered from the economic downturn as we all have. Its a great place to sit and watch the world go by. The Cafe Italiano just outside the Spar and Fund Grube is awesome, the waiters always seem so happy and the Mojito menu is amazing. We tried a few one afternoon, caramel was our favourite. The only decent electrical store is Visanta, the others sell copies of branded goods. We are going again tomorrow for Mojitos!

“Good nights out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2014

Great place to go for a night out. Plenty of bars and places to eat. Quite busy and good atmosphere but like everywhere watch your drinks and don't leave unattended. Overall all brilliant place for a night out.

“Shopping.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014

Went to the Yumbo centre twice. Terrible, sleazy, dirty, it looks like a multi storey car park awful .Half the shops are shut and the shop staff are awful. One was really in my face when I was looking at a bag I said it was expensive he kept shouting its leather do you want plastic. At a different shop when we never bought anything he screamed at us go go get out. A few days later we went back with our husbands I had seen a pair of shoes for him. After buying the shoes we were on our way out and a man (shop worker) said to my husband they were in here yesterday and they didn't buy anything I bet they don't shag either. Not a nice experience at all. I would recommend not to go there.

“Good fun, some nice bars”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014

We went to the Yumbo during the day and at night, during April. Firstly, it does seem very seedy and unappealing in the day, most places are closed and because the layout is not attractive (a labyrinth of concrete stairs and mult-levelled like a car park), we didn't stay long. But at night it was a different place, lively but a good atmosphere, plenty of reasonably-priced bars (great offers on cocktails) and some good restaurants. We ate there twice in the evening and enjoyed both meals. There was some street entertainment and plenty of families, couples, etc. around. The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. Ricky's Cabaret Bar was great fun too, with the drag queen acts. Although the layout is not great, the bars and restaurants themselves are nice, and the staff friendly overall. However, we did not appreciate some of the staff who stand outside the restaurants trying to drag you in. Some of them are aggressive in tone and rude and will not take no for an answer. Needless to say we went into the restaurants who did not do this to us. The Yumbo was probably the worst area for this, as the other centres and the beachfront are much more polite and do not usually harass you. We therefore preferred to go elsewhere overall but the Yumbo was still good fun. The other thing we noticed was that it was quite quiet until about 9-10pm but then everything shut before 1am! Possibly because it was early in the season. So if you want late night clubbing, don't go in April.
