“Carry on Abroad!”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

We arrived and were told that our room was downstairs from the lobby - the stairs area was being refurbished and was blocked off with plastic - the stairs down to our room were covered in plaster and paint. The area in front of our bedroom was full of rubbish - originally it must have been a garden area and the workmen were refurbishing a large area next to our room. The front balcony view was OK. We then went into the room. Very basic, not plush as we were promised. (1) the wardrobe doors would not open or close without force; (2) the toilet flushed once, then there was a delay of about 1 hour before it flushed again; (3) the TV (and we were promised (as will many others) satellite TV) - we had BBC1, BBC2 and ITV (but ITV only until around 10:30am it then disappeared until the early hours of the morning) - everything else was in Spanish; (4) we went out in the afternoon and bought some ice and put it in the freezer box - melted overnight!; (5) there is a small boiler under the sink in the kitchen - this is what heats your water - one shower and then that's it until quite a while after - don't even try to have a bath! (6) thr water from the shower ran along side the side of the bath and into the kitchen. We were moved to another room eventually, but most the hot water problem and TV were still the same. Th best thing about it is the location.

WE are surprised that Flamingo rates so low. First, it is located in Puerto Colon, a little haven before the same-ness of the Las Americas/Fanabe strip, and second, because it is really pleasant! I accept that we were lucky; on arrival we were allocated apartment 315, which feels like going down to a cellar, with little light and no view - but having protested to the rep (yes, there is time-share selling) we were then upgraded to 606, with 2 beds, 2 bathrooms and wonderful views across the bay. Paul, 'our' Grand Holidays timeshare rep, was very pleasant and accepted our refusal without demur. The pool is pleasant, the staff are helpful, and the location is great! If you are going to Las Americas, Puerto Colon is the place to be, being a little cove quite unlike the rest of the strip.Local eating houses are great (see my Odissea review). We were surprised at the number of Russians there - they probably outnumbered the Brits, and there was even a Russian-only BBQ night. However, I'm sure that we all enjoyed a lovely location.

Room Tip: Avoid the 300 to 315 rooms - our rep said that he normally needed a hard hat when visiting occupants...

We stayed at Flamingo Club early May 2013 and were pleasantly surprised considering some of the reviews we had read. I think some of the negative reviews would have been from people who participated in timeshare swap as part of the complex is still owned as timeshare while the other is Grand Holidays who are in the process of upgrading the facility.
We had a very nice apartment away from the main building and overlooking the beach. Good quality furnishing and decoration but we were told this was one of their show apartments and the others were slowly being brought up to this standard. The lounge had excellent leather sofa and a well appointed kitchen with everything necessary including washing up liquid, sponge and a tea towel. opened onto a good sized patio with sofas and a coffee table. The bathroom was marble walled and had two basins. The bedroom is large with quite the biggest bed I have ever seen in a hotel. Plenty of storage space in the bedroom and good thick curtains to block out the light.
The negatives however included a total lack of soundproofing between the units, no exaggeration when I say we could hear others' doorbells ring and hear them flush the toilet at night and these were not noisy neighbours. I found the bed extremely hard and the pillows too flat and soft but this may well be personal taste as my partner didn't have any bother with that.

In the bathroom the shower came straight down from the ceiling. OK for a man but not so good if you're trying to keep your hair dry. The light in the bathroom was poor and the addition of a shaving/makeup mirror and some towel rails would have improved it. TV reception wasn't good but this could have been a local problem rather than specific to Flamingo.
Room service was a bit hit or miss. None the first two days, then performed two consecutive days, none the next two days and once the day before we were due to leave. When it was done it was faultless.

The first day we were there was BBQ night which was included in the cost of the stay. Good food and included a jug of sangria. Each night there was some for of entertainment which finished about 11pm so no disturbance at night.

We really appreciated the use of a courtesy room for a shower and change of clothing on our last day as we had to vacate our room by 10am and weren't being collected until 5.30pm. All the staff were very pleasant, friendly and helpful.

I have rated Flamingo Club 4* on our experience but it would only take a few adjustments as mentioned to make it 5*

Thank you for your kind comments, and we are delighted that you have enjoyed your stay with us at Flamingo Club. I am glad that you were able to experience one of our fantastic newly refurbished suites; we appreciate your comments about the little things that could be improved and they have been duly noted. We are very proud of the new apartments, but we are always open to suggestions, after all the opinions of our guests is what is most important!
I hope that you will consider visiting us again for your next holiday in Tenerife, and we will look forward to welcoming you back to the Flamingo Club.

This is the first time i have bothered writing a review of a slightly negative character but Flamingo club is by far the worst hotel I have stayed in in Europe, with that said: I travel a lot and I don't ever expect a five star hotel wherever I go. This has to be said for them to shape up:

The first and most important thing that's lacking in this hotel is honesty. There is not a chance in hell this hotel is a four or three star resort. Second and perhaps most important thing to mention is the lack of service they provide to their guests. I speak perfect Spanish after 8 years of Spanish residency so language didn't seem to be the issue in the reception; they did understand when we politely asked for assistance, but they just chose not to help. This lead us to wonder; If people working in the resort has such nasty attitude; What exctly does that say about the management?

We stayed in 306 which is basically in the basement two stairs down. We had a "patio" towards the garden which is well kept and beautiful.

The beds were a joke. Looked and felt like one of these portable ones from IKEA. TV (Not that we need that anyway) was from circa 1982 (the year I was born). We had a friendly visitor, a cockroach we named Bruno. He was a bit noicy at times. Plus our toilet seemed to break everytime we came back from the beach. So the lid was litterally broken and taken off twice by maintenance staff without fixing it back.....

Apart from that only one of the beds (we travelled two friends, both of us women) had a nightstand and a lamp. It took us four days of insisting for them to bring us one after they robbed one from what most likely must have been an empty room.

In any case, to summarize: I would not return and I would not recommend Flamingo club. Both me and my dearest friend are super positive people and we have stayed in rougher places in our past. But the lack of service and the loud Russian music pumping from the daily karaoke just isn't pleasant. It felt like coming to a family hotel for people with no education and a feeling of wierd ambiance in general.

It IS a great location and apparently you might be granted a nicer room but we weren't too pleased with this place. Not to recommend.

Thank you for your comments, and I am sorry that your accommodation did not meet your expectations. Flamingo Club is currently undergoing a series of refurbishments and we are working as quickly as possible to bring all of our apartments up to a high standard, although we have never previously professed to be a 4 star resort.
I appreciate your comments regarding noise, however our Russian karaoke is held only once per week. It may be possible that you were disturbed by one of the surrounding privately owned bars, over which we have no control. We do have entertainment in the evenings and we try to cater for all nationalities, however we ensure that the merriment does not go on until too late in the evening to avoid disturbing our own guests as well as residents and other guests staying in the hotel vicinity.
I do hope that you will consider visiting us again in the future and view the fantastic results of our refurbishment programme.

This resort is in a wonderful position, over looking La Pinta Beach, with views out to La Gomera, it is close to bars and restaurents, an ideal location. The public areas are beautifully maintained and it looks like a wonderful place to stay. Unfortunately thats where it ends. The majority of the reception staff are unfriendly and unhelpful. The apartments, with the exception of the Show Villa, are poorly maintained and badly in need of refurbishment. we had an apartment that had two balconies, and unfortunately it rained while we were there, the rain came under the balcony doors and the front door to the extent that the hall, bathroom and lounge were flooded. When we told reception, all they said was every body is the same and gave us some extra towels to mop the water up, and that was the extent of the help. when we went back and said the towels were inadequate, the response was to give us 2 curtains. In the sun this is a reasonable resort, in bad weather this place is a definate no no. The friendly staff in the pool bar have been taken over by resort staff with resort staff friendlyness! not.

Room Tip: You dont get to chose your room, reception allocate them

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that you felt your apartment did not meet your expectations. We have completed phase one of our ongoing refurbishment programme which has greatly improved the communal areas and as you have observed, they have been renovated to a high standard. We are now working on the improvement and refurbishment of the apartments to bring them up to the same standard as the communal areas.
During your stay we did unfortunately have a few days of extremely bad weather in Tenerife when an unexpected storm hit the island. Many of the buildings in the south of the island were affected by very mild flooding but this is very unusual here and unfortunately we cannot control the weather!
I do hope that you will consider visiting us in the future to view the improvements to our apartments and facilities in general.
