“Excellent Little Gem in Playa De Las Americas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

This hotel is fantastic! As a couple in our early 30's we still wanted plenty of bars and restaurants but didn't want the 18-30's clubbing scene so we were initially in two minds about booking a hotel in central playa de las Americas, knowing the reputation that the resort has!!

Colon 2 is perfect though! Fab location - come out and turn right and you are within 10mins of Veronicas and Sturco Centre (the 18-30's bit!) but turn left and walk for around 10 mins and you are in the centre of lovely shopping centre/bars/restaurants etc (all around Hard Rock Café area). The hotel has a really nice café/bar at the front too. The restaurant Mamma Rosa was closed - I heard someone say its not opening until the end of July which is shame as reviews said they served great food so it would have been nice to try. There also appeared to be a sports pub on site but this too was shut (I assume this may only open in the winter season?)

The main thing about this hotel is the friendly staff and the cleanliness of the whole place - its immaculate! Everything is cleaned and sparkles both in the rooms and in the public areas.

The hotel itself was quiet , we heard no noise or banging doors like I had read in other reviews. Considering Veronicas was less than 10 min walk away we never heard loud music/DJ's or hoards of drunken people going past at all hours of the night! Clientele in the Colon was generally couples between 25 and 65 when we went so whether it gets noisier later in the season when there are more younger groups of friends I'm not sure.

The room itself was lovely (we stayed in 214) Absolutely huge one bedroom apartment. Safety deposit and TV are extra if you want them. The beds are hard but this is purely personal. My husband has back problems and said he's never slept so well on holiday! Personally I didn't find a problem with the beds either and slept well each night. Our balcony was lovely and got the sun every afternoon from around 3pm

Pool is great as is the pool bar and food. All food is fresh and the bbq on a wed and sat is a must! Great fresh cooked chicken done by chef on the bbq right in front of you. I had read plenty of reviews on here about a rush for sunbeds in the morning. We went down around 9am each day and were able to easily get beds where we wanted. The pool doesn't' open until 8.45-9am though so you cannot get to reserve beds any earlier than this. There were always spare sunbeds every day but there are not enough umbrellas for everyone. There are plenty of different spots if you want shade or sun also.

Other recommendations:
Supermarket - massive Dinomarket within 5 mins walk - come out of colon and turn left, walk up the alley way immediately on your left and the dinomarket is at the top (good prices and plenty of selection)

Bars - 2 good ones - one is Harrys in the Safari Centre - great to people watch. The other is Chizinquito Deseo which is a great cocktail bar for a drink before dinner and to watch the sunset. There is a chillout DJ there every night too so it has a really nice atmosphere. Come out hotel and go straight down to the beach. Turn left and walk around 7mins and you will find it (yellow building right on the beach with comfy seating)

Restaurants - Bianco is by far the best restaurant we found (Italian) although slightly more expensive its well worth it. Mamma mias Italian is also good and does an all round menu. Both are in the Safari Centre area. Tony Romas is good for Ribs too. Good restaurants is one thing PdLA lacks - there initially look to be a huge selection of restaurants offering all sorts of cuisine but actually when you look at the menus they all offer the same (very british) food. We had some really ropey meals (particularly Hacienda Mexican and the Tapas restaurant where nothing was fresh, everything was just thrown in a fryer!)

Car Hire - We used Oasis below the Dino Market and paid 29Euro for a car for a whole day to go to Mount Tiede. There isn't much on Tenerife worth seeing but Mount Tiede National park is definitely worth a visit.

Would highly recommend this hotel if you want a chill out holiday with easy access to the resort amenities. Would be happy to return if ever went back to Tenerife :-)

This is our 4th time at this hotel. It is in a great location, restaurants, bars and beach are on your doorstep, yet it is really quiet inside the hotel and around the pool. It is a very laid back type of place with an ice cream/coffee shop as reception. We had a top floor room, it had great views and was very peaceful. Had a great week relaxing here. Staff are very friendly and the cleaning staff do a really great job, very thorough the whole place is spotless. Will be going back next year.

Room Tip: All rooms have a side sea view, unless you are on the ground floor.

Myself & my boyfriend just came back from a great stay at collon II apts. Had a first floor studio with view of the pool which was lovely, nothing worse than having a view of waste land or some generator!! Room was clean & well equipped kitchen, even tho we never cooked :-) pool was nice very clean, plenty of sun beds, like everywhere people put there towels out at stupid o clock to get a bed, we never had a problem getting sun beds. The staff were very friendly & helpfull. When walking out the hotel there are bars & resturants, also a 24hr supermarket which was very expensive! Another supermarket down the round which was cheaper, you can either turn right towards Veronica's or left towards what I called the nicer end of las Americas, with plenty of bars & restaurants and also Hard Rock Cafe which has only been opened a few months. The only thing I wasn't happy about is the noise & shouting at night, which has nothing to do with the hotel, it's the inconsiderate people coming in, I suggest earplugs ;-) I would recommend collon II apts to anyone & I would definetly stay here again

Just returned from a week staying here with my 21year old daughter. Lovely clean apartments. Had a room on third floor so had a view of the sea. Staff very friendly. Apartments well situated for bars, shops and beach. Would certainly stay there again. Second visit to playa de las Americas.

Stayed in 2 bed apartment with a 13 and 9 year old. Staff very friendly and helpful, everywhere spotless, no air con but ceiling fans did the job,(unsure if this would be enough in July and August). Would definitely recommend, great location for beach, bars and shops - heard no noise at night.

Once again we stayed at this hotel this time in a 1 bedroomed apartment on the ground floor near reception.
We had a 10 night stay flying out from Bristol on 29th April 14.
It is simply a lovely hotel sited in a convenient location. Many shops, bars and eating places on the doorstep. Iceland's near hotel for water etc.
Please see my previous reviews. I cannot fault this hotel at all. It is so clean and staff are so friendly. The restaurant on site was closed due to holidays, re-opening in June.
We ate in La Bocas where breakfasts are 3 euros. Lovely evenings meals at good prices. I most mention Giddy Goose, Jags, Tony Roma's, Travellers rest, Heads and tails and Carriages - all worth a visit. (Lowry's bar now closed) (Heads and Tails is 100 yards approx past Veronica centre and left.
La Bocas is my favourite eating place with lovely staff, all have been working there years. So cheap, great value.

Los Christiano's beach is a 15 minute walk - outside and left. A super beach.
The black beach is 5 minutes right.
We will return ASAP.
Unfortunately Christmas appears to be fully booked !!
The weather was fantastic.
Thompsons's rep was a lovely young lady.

Room Tip: Try to get a high floor, But all are great.

Stayed at the Colon 2 week commencing 18th May - great location for the beach and all the local restaurants and bars but far enough away from the clubs so not affected by any noise.
Apartments very clean and well equipped. These were kept very clean by the staff.
Pool area was relaxing.
Would return & therefore recommend these to anyone visiting Playa de las Americas
