“Great weekend getaway”
Reviewed 22 November 2013 via mobile

I booked this as a treat for my partner and I. Didn't disappoint from the moment we got there. Driving up to the property it had a 'Downton Abbey' like feel to it just minus Maggie Smith. We were pleased to see that a lot of the original features had been well maintained and like some of these hotels hadn't been turned into a corporate like conference centre. Room was great, bigger than expected and bathroom had a great shower and bath which didn't disappoint. Our room led out onto the 'balcony' which had some great views (although not sure if we were genuinely allowed out on the terrace/balcony) was fun all the same! Spa treatment is def worth a lot in too and Sunday lunch was superb! We had an enthusiastic barman who made a couple of unusual cocktails which was great although the only draw back to the drawing room/lounge was the utter silence which meant all the guests felt obligated to whisper - could do with some music to lighten the atmosphere. There is a pub literally walking distance up the road - great food and 1/3 of the price of the hotel (thought the a la carte was over priced for what it was). All in all great trip for couples and very friendly and welcoming staff.

My husband and I found the hotel on secret escapes. Together with my sister in law and her husband we decided to treat ourselves to what appeared to be luxury. It was !!!! An absolutely amazing building with so much atmosphere if you love historic buildings. The hotel and the grounds were amazing. We waited with anticipation for our evening meal. We were not disappointed. The food was outstanding. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel completely at home. We really wished we were staying longer so that we could appreciate everything for longer. We will definitely return. The pool and spa also amazing we just wished we could make more use of it in the short time we were there. Definitely recommend a game of snooker after dinner just so long as you're not too noisey!! Sorry if we got a bit carried away. Thank you to everyone for making our short stay so enjoyable.

Mum and I had a really lovely time in this amazing house. It is enormous and is kept to such a high standard. We stayed above the spa in the stable rooms which were spacious and luxurious. The spa is quite small but with an adequate pool and well looked after sauna, steam and spa pool. The poolside lounge is comfortable and relaxing and the REN facials that we had in the treatment rooms were great.
The restaurant is expensive and the bar is too but food is good. Perhaps a little too complicated and rich for our tastes. Id like to see a slightly wider menu that is a little less 'busy' and a bit lighter. Breakfasts are very good.
Staff at Rushton hall are all very friendly and helpful. I really liked the accessible historical information about the house, its grounds and those who have lived here over the generations.

Room Tip: The stable rooms are specifically for the spa and are very lovely. I had a peek inside one of the ro...

Like many others I booked a 2 night break through Secret Escapes and couldn't fault the whole experience. My teenage children shared 1 room and my husband and I were next door in lovely spacious rooms in the Stable Block near the Spa, this meant we could easily wander to the spa in a dressing gowns and slippers (parents note there are set time slots for children under 17). The main part of the hall is living history - the Hall was built by the family that were linked to the Gunpowder Plot (Thomas and Francis Tresham) and the Gt Hall was where Charles Dickens wrote Gt Expectations (Think Miss Haversham etc!) I loved this. We ate at the nearby pub for dinner, but ate breakfast in the Library - lovely food cooked to order. Would definately stay again. Even in the dull grey of Hallowe'en the grounds looked splendid I imagine it would be lovely on the terrace, or walking by the lake on a balmy summers evening.

Room Tip: Stable Block rooms are out of the main hall therefore more modern.

We booked a two night break here on 12th & 13th of November. The hotel is great, friendly staff, very clean. We had the Charles Dickens room which was lovely. I booked spa treatments, which were 5* - I had Bryony for a Ren Rose Ritual, she was fantastic. I was a premier therapist at Champneys and appreciate a good treatment! Couldn't fault her! The spa itself felt like it was just for us, being mid week was very quiet and so relaxing! Just what we needed! We went to the local pub on both nights, we had booked the restaurant but nothing on the menu jumped out so went to the pub! It's a 5 min walk but do take a torch, the road isn't lit and is dangerous! Will highly recommend this hotel - make sure you have a treatment!!!

My wife booked Rushton Hall via secret escapes for a two night break, We knew nothing about it until we arrived there but were immediately taken back by the view as you drive up to the Hall - fantastic. We arrived on the day of the big storm but that did nothing to ruin the break.
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and we made use of the spa and a massage each - most refreshing. We had one evening meal in the hotel and haven eaten at Michelin restaurants before , this was up to those standards and good value for money bearing in mind the quality. On the first evening we had a meal at the Thornhill Arms, about five minutes walk away and would certainly recommend it but would warn you, the portions are big and you need to book.
Overall a great place to go and if you like old England try Stamford Town about 30 minutes away. Free parking at the George Hotel where you can have a coffee or lunch and explore.
The only reason I have not given five stars is that there was no heating in our room which they couldnt resolve but gave us a electric heater. No problem as it was not too cold but had it been a week later this would have been an issue
Last thing - wonderful breakfasts in grand surroundings
