“What a Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2013

My wife used this B&B for 2 nights as a base for exploring the Isle of Skye.
When we arrived the wind was howling and most of our drive from Glasgow had been in rain and mist, although by the time we pulled up the weather had cleared up. So we weren't too sure quite what to expect. But Ian and Kathleen very quickly made us feel most welcome, showing us our room and offering a lovely light afternoon tea.
The room was clean and comfortable and offered the most extraordinary view of the loch below. The only criticism was that my wife could hear the man in the room next door from time to time if he raised his voice at all. But it's only a small point.
The breakfast was wonderful and plentiful, - it included fresh eggs from their own hens as well as yoghurt and bread which Ian made himself.
Ian and Kathleen were most generous of their tiime and kindly helped us to work out the best use of our time.
This B&B is almost in the centre of the Isle of Skye so serves as a great base for exploring the area.
Should we ever return, we would have no hesitation at all in usingf this B&B again and in recommending it to our friends.

Stayed two nights and wish it could have been longer: Skye is absolutely magical. Ashaig is wonderfully situated on Loch Greshornish -- the views, especially at sunset, are gorgeous -- and the B&B is less remote than many (not far off the main road but completely quiet) and especially well-located for exploring northwest Skye. The accommodations are neither fancy nor particularly stylish, but the hosts are warm and welcoming, rooms and baths are well-outfitted and very clean, and breakfasts are tasty and generous. There is also very good food and drink (and sometimes music) at the Edinbane Inn, an easy, short drive away.

We had a perfect one night stay in July 2013. The view from our room was amazing, especially at night with the sky full of stars (we were very lucky with the weather). And the breakfast! Kathleen and Colin were welcoming, helpful and wonderful hosts. There is a cosy inn nearby that we went for dinner with the help of Colin, which is also recommended. We would love to go back.

We arrived in the drizzle to be greeted by Colin and Kathleen. Colin obviously loves running a bed and breakfast establishment! Kathleen is very friendly. Everything is spotless and well furnished. We were escorted to our room on the north side of the house to find what could have been a room in a luxury hotel! Colin has carefully chosen and placed all those items which a lodger could want. The view from our window was of Loch Greshornish across a green lawn with flowers. The bed is a very comfortable king-sized with very comfortable bedding. There is an empty closet and several drawers to store your clothes. The room has plastic covered Skye information to take with you on your day trips which is very useful since it rains a lot on Skye.
The coffee/tea making basket has more options than we usually see in a B&B. There is a glass enclosed guest lounge at the south end of the house beyond the breakfast room where you'll find the best WiFi coverage. There are bookshelves of materials about Skye along the north wall which can be used and returned after drives or hikes .
The bathroom is equipped with a heated towel bar which is very nice in Scotland! The towels are large and luxurious. The toiletries are high quality!
The breakfasts are wonderful. We tried homemade Haggis for our first breakfast and are very impressed! Coffee, tea, homemade breads, homemade jellies and jams, breakfast cooked to order from a list left in your room with varied selections which you place on the table in the entry the night before. Colin is an excellent chef!
Colin and Kathleen thoroughly know the area, and Colin made us reservations at Loch Bay Seafood restaurant. Good thing! While we sat at our table, several groups were turned away because the restaurant was fully booked.
Caviat; This is why we only gave a 4 in service and value (since we couldn't use our room during part of the day-otherwise a 5 on both). Running a bed and breakfast must be difficult since it pretty much runs your life. I appreciate that. May I suggest, as with our B & B at Hadrian's wall (and all the other visits at B&Bs in the UK), the private rooms be locked so that your guests may have a key to the front door available for your guests use so that they would allowed to return before 4/4:30. It was very inconvenient to have to stay away from our room before that time. I can only imagine how inconvenient for those who are on Skye to hike the trails and mountains where you could get pretty wet. Also, please allow your guests to access and use the guest lounge before breakfast in order to use the internet. The internet strength in the far bedroom is not all that strong. We enjoyed our visit!

Room Tip: All the rooms are on the west side with excellent views of Loch Greshornish.

My friend & I stayed two nights with Colin & Kathleen, they were wonderful hosts. The breakfast here was amazing! The location is beautiful, tucked away next to Loch Greshornish. Thoroughly recommend staying here.

We stayed here for 4 nights - and wish it had been more! Colin and Kathleen were great hosts. Truly helpful and created a really nice and cozy atmosphere. The location is really amazing. It has a great view and is as central as you can get on Skye. That does not mean "crowded and busy" (quite the opposite!) but within relative short driving distance no matter which part of the island you want to explore.
You will find information about recommended places to see and a large collection of movies and books. But after a long day of exploring the island were more into just enjoying the sunset over the loch and then passing out in the comfortable beds :-)

The breakfast selection - and the quality of the food - is great! Make sure to try their legendary pancakes :-) No matter if you are dog-kind-of-person or not I will bet that you will get two new 4-legged friends! And if you find it hard to eat all of your pancakes I know someone who might be willing to give you a helping paw :-)

The rooms are really comfortable and will provide you with everything you will need. They are clean and really cozy. Only problem is that they seem to make time fly!
