We joined several families who have been going to Heidelberg Lodges for years and years. Our group numbered about 70, half adults and half children. The pool is steps away from the Comal river. The pool is nice, cool in temp and large in size. The river is fairly shallow and clear until lots of people get in it. Kids jump off a tall rock structure, swing from a rope swing, and jump out of a tree into slightly deeper sections of the river. Bring inflatable tubes, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards and do a little excursion down the river to the island and maybe the yellow rope swing beyond. The kids enjoyed the game room too.

The A-frame cabins are basic with a capital B. We were in the unit on top - which has two double beds. The lower units are larger. The walls, floors and ceilings are paper thin. You hear everything so request a top unit if your group will fit... and bring ear plugs. Our cabin was in a great location - close but not on the pool. Too close to the pool and it's noisy. Too far and it's a trek whenever you need something from your cabin and you'll be closer to the noisy train track.

The kitchens and bathrooms are basic and small but functional. I brought my own bedding and pillows and a few of my must haves for the kitchen - pyrex for the microwave, sharp knife, wine opener, etc. Schlitterbahn and the Chutes are nearby as are the cute town centers of Gruene (see a band at Gruene Hall) and New Braunfels (get pastries at Naegelins - oldest bakery in Texas). Grab a group of friends or organize a family reunion and go! Be prepared for basic accommodations but lots of family fun!

Room Tip: cabin 8 is in a great location

We love it when large groups come for a reunion of any kind and are so glad you all choose us year after year. We appreciate your business and enjoy having you. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. See you next year! (Do remember, however, that Fall and Spring are the loveliest, and most quiet, times of the year here at Heidelberg--would love to see you before next summer)

I have been coming to Heidelberg Lodges for many years and it needed updates then. But now, it really needs it. The electrical outlets need to be replaced with more sturdy outlets. The current ones are old and the plugs don't stay in the sockets. It's so loose due to the amount of usage it gets over the years. And with cell phones, and chargers for all electronics, it's really needed now more than ever! On the bright side, it's a very relaxing place with beautiful pecan trees, awesome pool, and the picturesque Comal River is breathtaking! I love to ride my kayak on the river. I'll be back!

I've been coming my whole life, 31 years. Its always an enjoyment and everytime I go I try to take new people. Every person I have taken has also loved the place. Its great for families. Always something to keep the kids busy. Very secluded and not allot of people running around everywhere like most places.

We chose one of the upstairs one bedroom cabins. It was small but comfortable. The hotel grounds are immaculately clean as we saw staff picking up the grounds daily. The room was clean as well. The inn was probably built in the 60's but is well maintained. The only improvement I'd suggest is a small flatscreen TV in the bedroom. Everyone we met was very friendly, a great family atmosphere. There were many large family groups that have been coming there for years. Night time was very peaceful without the rowdy college crowds you find at River Run Condos up the river. The pool is large and our 5 year old twins had a great time playing with all the other kids. On the river there was a giant concrete rock and a rope swing our daughter had a great time jumping from. This section of the Comal river is very slow but very clean due to it's use only by the Inn's guests. Nice for just sunning in the cool water. The game room was also a lot of fun for the kids. Take your fishing poles and nets, small perch are very aggressive and fun to catch with small hooks and sticky bait. The train tracks are close by and did wake me at 4am, but had no problem getting back to sleep. Also have nighttime security guard that keeps watch. We'll definitely return next year.

Room Tip: The rooms by the pool are convenient and the pool get's quiet after the kids go to bed.

Hello all,
My family and I stayed in unit #1 4/26-4/29. We had a very enjoyable experience, the other guests were all very friendly, Ducks and deer calmly wander the grounds and the location was beautiful. The cabin was very clean and cozy. Things to know- the office closes at 3pm prior to May1st, so we had to finish paying for the room site unseen since we could not arrive until the evening. Also, basic kitchen stuff is available, bbq pits are close, the oven is rendered inoperable purposefully, and it would not hurt to bring extra towels. We never saw the office personnel until we were leaving on Monday, as our event ran long on Saturday (left at 7:30am and did not return until after the office was closed), and the office is entirely closed Sunday. This resulted in the only facility provided towels having to last the entire stay. Thank goodness for beach towels. Additionally, the bathroom is very small. Now, there is also a really cool game room, but it was not open in the evenings that we were there, except for a short time when a friend of the owner's or manager's (not really sure) opened it for his family. My 9 year old made a few new friends during this time. I'm guessing that it, like the office, is also open later during the summer months. Also, a promo code may be available on the facebook page, which would make your trip even more affordable! Would we stay again? Absolutely!! I really like finding places that are not a "cookie-cutter" hotel room, and this place certainly delivers!

Room Tip: I was told that units in section A are the best becasue of their proximetry to the pool. I have to say it was awesome!!

Eva,
Thank you for the positive comments! You are correct, our office hours are different in the summer than in other seasons. We are hoping to increase the number of guests in the Spring and Fall seasons so that we can open the office and facilities earlier in the year. Having great reviews like this one can really help us increase our occupancy. So glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again very soon!
