“KL Ranch Camp”
Reviewed 6 July 2009

I have been on the river for 25 years and this was the most disappointing trip ever. We made reservations for KL Ranch camp on river rd. along the Gaudalupe River. for 3 nights. We arrived at noon and made our way into the gates down the un-paved dusty dirt road to our site. We made camp in site 94 and parked parallel to the river. We arrived on Saturday expecting the river to be full of tubers and it was. Drunk dirty mouthed tubers with no regaurd to families with children attempting to ignore the offensive language and indecent exposure. There are no full hook-ups and the worst part are the bathrooms. They are stinking dirty and run down. The campsites are full everyday of the week all summer they are making a killing and are not doing anything to improve the camping area. Most of the sites are not shaded and no effort to water the tender trees trying to survive. We showered from our outside utility shower and found that more appealing than the dirty bathrooms. Apon returning from dinner at 11;00 one night from Gruene, we found the gates locked and we could not get back into our campsite. This was an oversight we later learned there was a sign posted stating we must return to our campsite no later than 10;30 or the gates would be locked. After driving around for sometime trying to find someone to open the gate a young man came down in let us in,but not before reminding us of the rule in a disrespectful manner. I have never been locked into any camping area or been given a curfew, I don't think that's safe to be locked in. We left a day early disappointed, I know they are making money on the river and it saddens me that people are that greedy to not make any improvements with their profits. The river and terrain are beautiful I hope for rain for the river to fill the banks and for New Braunsfels to clean up the drunks. I'll go back another time to another place but not KL untill they change.

I have been camping for a very long time and will never go back to KL Ranch Campground. They failed to put on their website that there is a charge for the showers. The bathrooms were so nasty that I never went in them - (thank goodness we were in a travel trailer), we were informed that the sites were close together but little did we know that they were so close that if our neighbors whispered we would have been able to hear them. Our site #71 was very shady and very close to the water so that was a good thing. The campsites are so close to the River Road that you could hear traffic all hours of the night. My husband was trying to avoid the speed bumps when he was taking our dump tote to the dumpstation and was told to stay on the road and don't go on the grass - needless to say you really couldn't see the grass for all the cars that were parked on it. There were so many people at some of the sites that the cars were overflowing all over and it was hard to travel down the road to the dump station. Speaking of the dumpstation - it was literally a hole in the ground that had a concrete lid covering - it was very nasty and unsanitary. When we rented a tube, we had a $20.00 deposit put on our credit card even though the lady was only supposed to take our card number down and not charge the card - when we inquired about this, she said that the amount would be credited back to our card - it still has not been credited. All in all we had an OK time but we definitely would not come back to KL Ranch. Their website really looks alot better than it does in person. We were very disappointed and would have tried to get our money back but there is a no refund policy. I hope that this review is helpful for other campers that want to travel to New Braunfels. I don't know if all the campsites around that area are like KL Ranch but I hope there are better ones to choose from.

Stayed for 3 days / 2 nights at K &L at sites 110/111 on the river. Awesome sites, great shade, small sandy area making it easy to get in and out of the river and the kids had fun right there too. Just across from the sites is a shallow rock ledge, you can wade out about chest high and it comes right back up to waist deep, at that point there's a ledge just big enough to sit on (partially submerged) and just watch the tubers or drink a cold beverage. We had a large number of people and had plenty of room with 2 sites, even though it was a little rocky,we slept well. I have mt reservations in for 1 trip again this year and possibly working on a second. This was the 3rd year in a row we had been and one change you need to be aware of is that if you use their shuttle you can't bring your own tubes, you have to buy theirs. I think they should cut their campers some slack on that one..... Anyway, great trip and I have my sites picked out for as long as I can still camp/

We stayed two nights, July 25 and 26th 2008. Loved how we could see pics of the sites on the internet then call and reserve. We had tent site 54. Very shady and a great view of the river. Slightly sloped ground. Close to store and restrooms/showers! Store had a good selection of items which we took advantage of. Tube rental and shuttle right there. Security on property and local police took prompt care of some rebel rousers. We'll go again!

We drove in from the North up at Canyon Lake and headed down River Rd. Since it was Sunday they told me that I would have an easy time getting a place along the river. We had a few places in mind but after we got down to the KL Ranch we knew that this was the place. We are used to more rustic camping with lot's of nice trees and shaded areas. A lot of the other campsites are really for college kids. They have more frills like volleyball courts/Bars etc but way more crowded. The KL Ranch fits the bill if you are looking for more secluded area for families. Which is hard to find along the river. They have lot's of great sites. 81 is probably the best site. They have nice showers and the general store has everything you need. The river by the campsite is very nice as well. The first day we didn't even get tubes, we just set up camp and hung out in the water. There is even a rope tied to a tree for a nice swing into the river. Right next to the KL Ranch is Riverbank Outfitters. http://www.guadaluperafting.com/ They were really excellent. I recommend them. Plus they are pretty close to the campsite. I would come back here anytime. It's a mom and pop type setup. We paid for 2 nights and my wife felt ill after one day and they refunded our money!!!

KL Campground is family owned and family operated and the familiy is very friendly. We have been tent camping there for 10 years. They take reservations. The quiet hours are enforced. The fishing is good. The tubing is great. The restrooms are clean and lots of hot water! I would not stay anywhere else.

We have been going to the river in New Braunfels for years, and this was our first stay at KL Ranch Camp. We had a great time! The scenery was great, it wasn't too loud at night and the owners were very friendly. We had a bit of a mix up at check in due to multiple families, but it was resolved easily and with a smile on both sides.
We had spaces 82 and 83 on the river with both water and electric. While 82 was great, 83 had no shade - so keep that in mind when reserving your spot. There was a rope swing almost directly across from our sites, and it kept our kids entertained for hours. Next year we will request sites 81 and 82.
We came at the end of the summer, and due to no rain in a while the river was painfully slow. So we opted out of going down it or even trying the Comal - we decided to stick around the campsites all day and we don't regret it! We put our chairs out in the water and watched the floaters for hours. A perfectly relaxing weekend!
Previous reviewers complained about the traffic noise from River Road, but you will have that problem with most anywhere you stay because of the popularity of it. Also there were complaints about the bathroom - it was fine for us. If you are used to the Hilton or Marriott you will probably find the facilities lacking - but as far as camping goes, the bathrooms were fine.
I highly recommend KL Ranch Camp!
