The wife and I treated our son and daughter-in-law to a night's stay on their first wedding anniversary and they loved it. You have to see it and stay to get the whole experience of the rustic rooms. We stayed in the Carriage Haus. This is the room to stay in. Sleeps 4. and we sat on the "patio" and listened to the music coming from Gruene Hall. Close to all the shopping - which the wives loved. Walking distance to Bubba's Big Deck (bar). Some unique restaurants. Try Mozie's!
It is quite expensive and you have to book room for at least 2 nights. Also, book months in advance-and if you're going to attend the wine festival...book a year in advance. Breakfast included and its homemade.

Room Tip: Book the Carriage Haus if available.

We stayed one night and we really expected MUCH MORE for $210 per night. The bathtub could be VERY dangerous for older people to get in and out (claw foot with NOTHING to hang onto when you step in and out!). When we arrived (did not have reservations!), the girl working at the desk was rather snippy and we almost decided NOT to stay there just because of her attitude. She was not exactly welcoming!!! The breakfast in the main building was absolutely FABULOUS! At least, we did have one great experience there!!! It was nice to be in walking distance of The Gristmill (very good foot and ambiance) and to Gruene Hall.

Room Tip: We were on the Guadalupe River but our room was higher up on the hill where you could BARELY see the...

I expected more for $200 a night. Daybed in living room had a dismal mattress not fit for sitting much less sleeping. Thankfully, we didn't have someone sleeping on it. Nowhere comfortable to sit in entire room, period. Bath was down and bedroom up. Really inconvenient if you have to use the facilities during the night. Never occurred to me to ask. Claw foot tub with slippery floor & no rubber mat was a fall waiting to happen. Gas fireplace was a nice touch. Compared to other B&B's I've stayed at, this was average or below. It is very convenient to the shopping area.

A B&B with rooms overlooking the river that have a unique character. They have had a special available on Wednesdays when the room price i s $99 plus tax. A great discount which helps them with their mid week occupancy.Have stayed here in these rooms on 2 occasions. Forget about the view of the river - for all practical purposes it's non existent since the B&B is on the bluff overlooking the river which is immediately below. However, it certainly is peaceful to sit on the porch and read or have a drink - very peaceful. Breakfast is good - selection is what you would expect at any good B&B. We always eat dinner at the restaurant next door for a great meal at a reasonable price. The bed is very comfortable - had a good nights rest. Be sure to consult website carefully - some rooms have king while others have Queen beds. Rooms are clean and well maintained.

Beautiful, cozy and walking distance to the Gruene Hall and restaurants. Our stay was short, but we really enjoyed it. The bed was very comfortable, the cottage was cozy and had a home feel, the staff was very friendly, warm and welcoming. If you are planning to visit Gruene, I highly recommend staying at the Mansion Inn Bed & Breakfast and experience Gruene at it's fullest.

I'd say this place is great for a little overnight adventure for Austin couples. This place is right next door to Gruene Hall so if you are going to a show and would like a comfortable (if a wee bit pricey) place to crash after a show, this is a wonderful treat. My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the cottages by the river (note the cottages are separate, behind the house- we stayed in the River Tree Loft). I could not have asked for a much nicer birthday gift. I must admit the cottages inside are very dark and the atmosphere inside reminded me of a long lost dead auntie's attic bedroom, but that did not inspire me to rate this bed and breakfast down a notch at all (see pictures). It is simply the style in which the places are built. It might have been the fact that we had the entire place to ourselves on a cold weeknight that gave the place a whiff of shivers. The bed was comfortable and we slept very well though. Our breakfast was fixed just for us at the time of our choosing since we were the only ones there. We had lovely German lemon pancakes with butter, cinnamon rolls, fruit, and their tasty Texas Pecan coffee. We were treated very well and I wish to return some day to stay in the house itself!

We travelled to Gruene with 18month old twins and we loved it. We stayed in one of the cottage rooms attached to the inn and it had a real old world feel to it. The breakfast was nice and the place was clean and very handy for exploring the town. It is right next door to the music hall, we caught some live music there, which was great! This was our favourite part of our trip to Texas.
