This restaurant is just adorable. Friendly wait staff, authentic atmosphere. I got the sausage plate because gluten and I aren't friends, but I cheated and had a bite of the schnitzel my boyfriend ordered and it was so delicious. The sausage was good, but I would definitely recommend ordering the schnitzel if you can. The red cabbage was also really delicious. The prices are a little high though, so it's definitely a "now and then" kind of place.

“Dining here was worth renting the car for!”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

Despite living in a German-influenced area of Central PA, we infrequently have the chance to dine at a real German restaurant. Found this place while doing some research on a recent trip to San Antonio, Texas. While there is not much else going on (at least while we were there) in New Braunfels - our meal made us feel like it was well worth the trip. I think it took us about 30 minutes from the San Antonio Hill Country Resort.

The restaurant (in a little historic house) does sit off the street, so if you are not familiar with the area, it's easy to miss.

We were warmly greeted by a gentleman who made us feel immediately welcome. Both he and the hostess (owner?) were German and were conversing with other diners in German - so we felt like we had definitely come to an authentic place.

The food was the typical fare you'd expect at a German restaurant. What was not typical was how AMAZING it was! It was by far the best German food I've had anywhere in the US.

There was a decent selection of German beer as well - and some very good pairing recommendations.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Alpine Haus to anyone and wish we had gone earlier in the trip so we could have gone back again later in the week.

“Great German experience”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

While in New Braunfels, we wanted to have the complete "German" experience and found that in Alpine Haus! We called the same day for reservations and were accommodated by a very friendly gentleman (who we believe to be the owner) who also seated us upon arrival. Service was pleasant, friendly and helpful - and the food was outstanding and authentic. My fiance used to live in Germany and was thrilled we found this place, which is slightly off the main strip!

Stop in for a visit - you won't be disappointed in this adorable little place!

“The Best German Food Secret”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

This past weekend (Memorial Day weekend) we had friends visiting from Washington D.C. I had mentioned a quaint German restaurant to them but we had already dined out several times on the day they were leaving. Then as they were packing up my friend said "do you remember the German restaurant you suggested?" I said of course and we headed to the Alpine Haus before they left to go to Houston. As always this New Braunfels secret and special place had excellent German food (sausages, schnitzels, soups, red cabbage & potato salad) a much quieter ambiance than the other 2 German restaurants in town, a nice selection of German beer and wonderful service from a 3-generation family-run restaurant. It's a bit hard to find but look across the street from the famous Faust Hotel and tucked back from the street (S.Seguin) in a historical building there you will find a quaint cottage and New Braunfels best kept food secret. The sign out front is small. I hope you find it.

“Had to go back to make sure”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

Seeing some mixed reviews we were a bit leery and German restaurants can be hit or miss. However, good food is its best reward so we choose to believe the good reviews. We were not disappointed. The place was not busy and the service was a bit slow, but the food was wonderful. I had jager schnitzel and she had Rohm schnitzel, both were delectable. The German potato salad and red cabbage were both worth accompaniments. This was so good that we returned to give it another go and found it consistent as well as good. The only downer was that they did not have black forest cake as advertised. Ah,...next time.
