clean but crowded, par for the course in August. No real seaweed to speak off. Port-a-potties were clean- you didn't need to hold your breath! Driving on the beach is always a great adventure for the kids, especially if you rent the beach buggies!

Headed down to the coast from Austin for a few days to spend some time in Port A this week. Beaches were in pretty decent shape all in all. Not much in the way of visible tar but tons of seaweed all four days we were there and the "aroma" that accompanies it.. We did see some dune reconstruction in progress which was appreciated but really pungent and trash pick up was behind with most of the public containers full to overflowing. Water was fairly clear, no undertow or rips while we were there.

Wish that Port Aransas would clean the beaches of the seaweed along the shoreline like South Padre does. If they did this, a lot more people would visit. The other bad thing is they continually are adding more and more sand to the sand dunes between the road and the condos/houses so the views for lower level floors and houses are getting more and more obstructed.

Port A beach is so close to us and so much cleaner thatn the other Gulf beaches. The small city has everything to offer. From beach buggies, fly boarding, parasailing, dolphin tours, pirate ships, and all the best food you can eat.
We decided to try Fly Boarding for the first time. www.overandunderwatersports.com. WOW, what an experience. The owner takes you out for several hours after a class to hover above the ocean on a board strapped to your feet. Its not for the faint of heart and is so exhilerating that we will do it everytime we go from now on.
The seaweed was up this year but it never stops us from enjoying the beautiful mornings and sunsets right on the water. Not one bad thing to say about any of our trips to Port A.
Go and have a blast!!!

I had fairly low expectations, people warned me about the "Texas beach" experience, like I am about to be swimming in a pool of oil.

However, this is a great beach! It's huge, so there's lots of room to set up, and you can drive up right onto the beach and don't have to carry your stuff far. The water is warm, with big waves, and it's a lot of fun! Yeah, it's not crystal clear, but it's blue and clean.

There was quite a bit of seaweed, especially later in the evening, but nothing too excessive. You have to step over some of it on the way to the water.

The beach is quite clean, there are plenty of showers, toilets, garbage bins.

It's not on par with Caribbean "white sand, turquoise water" beaches, for sure, but, then, I can't drive to those, either. We'll definitely come again!
