“Do not go to this park”

DO NOT GO TO THIS RV PARK. They are extremely rude and are just there to scam you and take as much money from you as possible. We went there on labor day weekend after booking a beachfront site next to our friends at least 2 months before time. When we arrived they allocated us to a different site without even telling us. The new site was next to the laundry and fish cleaning place! When we queried it, the receptionist was extremely rude and instead of apologizing, she quoted rules to say that they were at liberty to change sites. After complaining that we had specially booked to be next to our friends, she allocated us another site nowhere near our friends or the beachfront. She then said we owed an extra $45 cause we had more than 2 people on the site. This was after we had asked when booking, if there would be any other charges and were assured that there was not There was absolutely no attempt at customer service and when another employee or manager came in and we tried to explain the situation to him, we were told that we could leave if we wanted to. Also I think that they have deliberately put the hose hookup as far away as possible so that you are forced to buy their hose extensions which of course they happen to sell right there. There were fire ants everwhere around the site that we were allocated and we were bitten within 5 minutes of parking the trailer. They made no mention that the toilets were locked and that you had to pay a deposit to get a key, so when we tried to use the toilet at night, we were met with solidly locked doors. The sites themselves are so close together that you feel like sardines in a sardine tin. So if you do happen to book there after reading this review, just be prepared to be moved to the site next to the toilets or fish cleaning place irrespective of what they tell you on the phone. Also be prepared to pay more for something - they just look for any reason to charge you more. And don't expect a friendly welcome either. Naturally, we will never go back there

You can only do what you feel is fair and correct. Please read the entire response you’ll find the fish house is more appealing than it sounds. The ladies son rented the site to be next to friends and the park was aware and understands their wishes. Their sites’ current occupant became ill and notified the office just hours before their arrival. The office host had tried several times that afternoon to reach her son who made the reservation, to advise him of unfortunate situation, explain the pluses and minuses of the two available sites and allow him to choose A-6 & B-8. The office host explained all this when they arrived. Now knowing all this they (especially the mother) want us to make the ill gentleman move. Personally I consider A-6 the best site, however I see the Gulf every day.
My choice is to make a sick man move his unit so they can stay next to their friends, which the park will not do. Once again, the park explained fully, that B-8 is a back-in for pull units and would require longer hoses for connections with a Gulf View out the back on unit. A-6 has premium landscaping, and is a site that many people prefer with a larger patio and a nice sized flower bed, it is a spot I lived on for over a year by choice.
I also explained that I wasn’t going to move the sick gentleman and there other choice was a full refund. Then they decided to look at the two available sites. He choose site B-8 with the Gulf view, and checked-in at 4:42 PM. on 8/30/2012. Please note that on the map how far B-8 is from the bath house, however A-6 is about twelve feet from the nearest part of the fish house, yet we charge a premium rate for that site. The laundry which is 40 feet away at the nearest point and 60 feet from the entrance. This means being next to the fish house is not the disadvantage that she has made it out to be people wouldn’t be paying a premium for this site. Also the party that took the “fish house site” rented it again for the same time period next year, when most of the park was available.
This started because they wanted to be next to her friend, I understand that. Then it was she did want to pay for her car or her stay. There is a place she can park her car for free just two blocks away. The parking charges would have been thoroughly covered in the phone reservation with her son, website under rates, and mention in confirming e-mail.
The grandmother is in the office, now she wishes to move from B-8 to A-6 (next to the fish house). This would be just fine, except it is no longer an available site. I explained A-6 was rented at 5:00 PM to another guest that hasn’t arrived. She says, “it is the same thing that happen to us”. I explained, “no one will ever have a reserved site, just because they want it.” However, it is true when anyone arrives they may change for any available site they prefer. She still wants his site A-6, and gives an ultimatum in front of four people she says,” if you don’t move them and let me have A-6, I’ll write bad reviews for your park all over the web.” Now when we reserve you a site you won’t lose it just because someone else wants it at this park, regardless of money, friendship or relationship.
I have the documentation to show what sites were available and the time they were rented and that they took B-8 which isn’t close to the bath house. See web site for park map to see where these sites are located and an idea of the distance to fish house, laundry and bath house. I can also show the time the person reserved and that when he left he reserved A-6 again next year (nice site, yes).
The Grandmother did what she threaten to get someone else’s site.

Bad reviews are easy to come by, we have thousands of people stay with us every year. Anyone can have a reason or perceived reason can type whatever they wish. Good review takes a peson giving to give their time because they enjoyed a service or product.

We have stayed here two years and I can say that this park is the same this year as last year. I rated the park a three but the park is a two however, the proximity to the Gulf is a rating of four so the reason for a rating of three. It’s an easy walk to the Gulf from this park and several of the park’s RV sites offer a view of the Gulf. The RV Park itself is difficult to maneuver and the spaces are very tight. The sites need work. Electrical boxes are badly rusted, more gravel is needed, and leveling many of the sites is needed. They have nice grass and nice shrubs. There’s little to no parking for your vehicle or vehicles. There’s a daily charge for parking extra vehicles which was $5/day at the time of this review. Extra vehicles and possibly your tow vehicle will probably have to park in overflow parking. If you’re lucky they will allow you to park in an empty site but if they need the space you must move; which is understandable. What I have trouble with is the fact that many times there isn’t room at your site for your primary vehicle to park with your trailer. Electric rates are somewhat expensive so if you’re on weekly or monthly rentals consider this when on an extended stay. Our electrical usage for two weeks was about $82 but we did use the a/c. There is a $5 deposit per key for the bathhouse locks but this is refunded when the key is returned. Some have complained that the staff isn’t friendly. We found the staff friendly both visits. The staff has so many rules to enforce that it may make them seem unfriendly. The park needs better security. People and vehicles not staying at the RV Park wander through day and night. The park has a sign up warning that items not secured have been stolen. I don’t think vandalism is a problem but theft of loose items could be. If you don’t mind the sites being close together and you primarily want to enjoy the Gulf then consider this park. If you want room to move around outside your RV you will be disappointed. There are a few sites with more outside area per site but only a few. We enjoyed our visits but this year is probably our last. Several RV Parks in Port Aransas have boardwalks to the Gulf and they aren’t as cramped.

This is the ONLY place we'll stay when we're camping in Port Aransas!!! We enjoy the "on the beach" access with ALL the amenities of a campground. Very clean and friendly. Our family enjoys the back and forth access to the beach without having to get in the car and drive. Their facilities are very clean and the staff very friendly. We have looked into other options when we come; however, no one compares to this experience. Can't wait for our next visit!

Thank You Stacy, for your review of our park. We appreciate folks taking the time to make a unbiased review. Since your last stay at On the Beach, we change fixtures, mirrors and counter tops in both bathrooms, added wood flooring and tile counter tops to the rec-room. We added two new dual band radio, access points to the park which combined with the sonic wall dual wan router, and the third access we added earlier in the year to the center of the park makes for the best and fastest internet yet. It was expensive but it makes us all happier (it worked). Again thanks for the review.

We've been going to On the Beach RV Park for several years now and we always have a great stay. Yes the spots are small, and it's a little older, but it's next to the water and it's bound to a little weather beaten, but I think the staff does a great job of keeping the grounds in good shape. The landscaping is always plush and green and there's no trash laying around, and they provide baggies for people to clean up after their pets, which we appreciate and are always sure to use. As for the rates, I think they're reasonable, we've been so satisfied with the park and the location we've never looked into any other RV park's rates, but I've never felt like we over paid. The office staff has always treated us well, with a casual, friendly attitude, and that's good enough for us. We always look forward to our summers in Port Aransas, and our cozy spot at On the Beach. :)

I came here as a new and inexperienced camper with my friends. My two girlfriends and I had rented a camper to take down to the beach. We also brought with us our two Great Danes. I was so surprised that this park was so PET FRIENDLY! I didn't even need to hunt for doggie bags, they are located all over the park for free and have a pet walk area too. The staff was super friendly and helped us back in, set up and connect to everything. They were more than willing to help us with all the little things that we didn't know to do. Ema at the office was super kind and gave us directions as we came from all the way from San Antonio and stayed with us on the phone until we figured out how to get here. Time is not off the essence here. They will help you for as long as you need it and came to our assistance as soon as they could. Over all this is a wonderful friendly family owned park and they loved our 'baby' Great Danes! Can't wait to come back!

We called ahead of time and spoke with a friendly working camper in August. She was very helpful in helping us decide which site might be right for us. We had the site with the best view of the beach! The beach is so close you hear the gulf all the time. The beach is one of the best I've been to, just short of our lake beaches in Michigan. Some of the sites do appear to be small for today's bigger rigs and slides. The sites that back up to the dunes appear to be larger. The grounds are well maintained. The working campers are extremely helpful! Scott and Dave came to our rescue more than once without hesitation. We travel with our Lab. On the Beach couldn't be more pet friendly! We will stay at On The Beach again!

I have no idea where the negative posts come from! No, it's not spread out with 50' between campers but certainly not to where you can't put out your awnngs! Our spot was up against the fence facing the road. The spot had a clear view of the Gulf, concrete pad just outside our door and with a picnic table. The management could not be more helpful or friendly. I've spoken with three different office people so far and they are all pleasant and enjoyed having a conversation.
You must get a reservation as the park is always full due to it's location. The beach is 100 yards from the park and another 100 yards to the water (depending on tide/winds).
On the negative is the WIFI which is iffy. But who doesn't have a 'droid' these days! The electricity is metered @$.17 per kWh. Seems high but based on law, it's what the park pays; no mark-up. Propane is site-delivered every Wednesday @ 2.25 per gallon.

We don't tow a car so we relied on the hourly shuttle that goes right by the park. For a quarter you can ride to all the major areas of Port A. There's a large IGA grocery store with a huge wine selection. And 1/3 of a mile down the road is a convenience store which has the basics along with wine and beer.

We're on our fourth week of an eight week stay and could not be happier. People who say they have problems with management probably have problems where ever they go. JMO.

Thank You Paul,
We appreciate your review of our park, it is always nice to hear that folks enjoyed themselves. You mentioned the Wi-Fi, it seems like you get a system set up that works, then the usage increases, and the system is behind the curve. In 2013 we put in a dual-wan enterprise class router and installed a third access point, with a long range dual band radio. December 2013 we replaced the equipment at bath house and the office equipment with the dual band radio models. They each allow N and G and the same time, the N is fastest and the G slower but goes father. We are seeing a hundred different users a day in our sixty site park and we are still ahead of the curve. :)
Port Aransas is a friendly town with a sandy beach is that is hard to beat and a transportation service that is the best I’ve seen. You mention the shuttle, but there is also the flex “B”. It will go to any location in Port “A” at a set time in the morning to pick you up then take you to a commercial location in Corpus Christi. When they drop you off they will provide a pick up time at that or another location $ 1.25 each way. We look forward to when you can visit us again! Thank You Again,
