“Not Impressed”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Calling this RV Park a resort is a bit of a stretch. Sites are very close to each other, sites that have "grass" actually only have sticker weeds. Very disappointed with this park. We were there a few years ago and the place was much nicer, this time we were with a group and had the club room. It appears they cater to the people who stay all summer. They certainly didn't cater to our group. Treated us like we were going to steal stuff from the club room and are very pet restrictive. Saw a few pets running loose, but the "security patrol" didn't seem interested in taking care of that. It also appears that the park could use an updating. We didn't use the shower/restroom facilities. We won't be back.

Room Tip: Find another park

We brought our whole family down w/ our 5th wheel. It was the 1st time for my kids & I. We loved it here. My husband found great reviews & booked it! We got to drive our golf cart onto the beach, which was very close. The shower facilities we used once were very clean. Everyone seemed very nice! Our two labs liked it as well. Our kids were told to leave the game room by an older woman who seem to be very rude to them. The only negative we ran into. The beach was beautiful and clean. Definitely will come back!

Since moving back to TX we have stayed here the Friday-Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We camp with our youngest son and his family in separate campers so getting adjacent spots is important to us. So far that has not been a problem and this year we were able to get "buddy sites" that share a common area between our campers (front doors facing each other too).

The daily trash pick up is nice and the will pick up, fill, return and charge your site for propane as well.

That said it does seem that more spots are dedicated to seasonals. While I am sure that helps the bottom line it seems that those seasonal campers aren't as open to having us "weekenders" intrude on their "home". Sad.

This site does have easy access to the beach which is fun for beach combing with the grand-daughters and fun for the dogs.

We are planning to go back next year.

We spent 2 weeks at Pioneer Beach Resort this June and overall actually enjoyed our stay. We are a returning customer, having spent several summer vacations at Pioneer. The facilities just seem to be needing some work, improvement and attention. The lots have lots of ants and sticker burrs and they don't mow consistently. We don't use the park's bathrooms often but they are not kept up as well as they should be, sometimes dirty or not working. The boardwalk is long and narrow and could use some updating - it's hard to get the golf carts across to the beach. Speaking of golf carts, being able to use them is one of the best parts of the vacation -- BUT the park needs to control the under 16 kids driving them. We have noticed over the years how this park is getting a little wilder and louder at night. There are a lot of drunks up late at night. if you want a quiet peaceful park, this might not be the place for you. And the people who run the place are sometimes not the friendliest... not all of them, just some...

Room Tip: Near the beach or pool... avoid the "zoo area" unless you want to party late night...

We are long time visitors to Pioneer, come back every summer, stay the entire time. Last year notice was given that the summer rates were increasing by $75.00 per month. Considered not returning but figured with the additional collection from everyone, big improvements to come. I understand that had not collected the extra money yet but still, nothing done in 99% of the lots. Oh they did put up some palm trees on a few lots, crushed granite in a few (which looks like a hot mess to me). And the stickers, oh the sticker burrs. They are horrible and no plan to eradicate them. The lots are in horrible shape and if there is grass, it's sticker burrs. And while these things bothers most people, what concerns me most is the out of control adolescents running around in the park. They literally dominate the pool areas and no way we would allow our young child to be there with the language they use AND there seems to be no age requirement for driving golf carts. I have seen 2 accidents this year and have avoided 2 very near collisions myself. In all cases the children were under 15 years. Years ago when we first started coming to Pioneer we were told in very specific terms that the driver of a cart must be a licensed driver. We adhered to that rule and still do today. There is going to a be a major accident soon if they do not address the age of golf cart drivers. What does it take for most things to change? Something serious. Let's hope it's not one of our children.

We are finishing up our stay right as I type this, and my family has been coming to this park since it was nothing more than the original back in sites (1-220ish). Although we like Port A, and my wife and I have very fond memories of the park we will be looking for a different location for our next beach visit. The park used to cater to the family RV atmosphere, but now seems to be geared more toward the seasonal crowd that rents a spot for the summer, and lets whoever stay at their RV to include unchaperoned teenagers that run about the park on golf carts (not helpful getting our 2 year old to sleep). Additionally out of the 10 restrooms in the park (for approximately 350ish sites, this includes two that are marked specifically for use at the pool) two remained out of order for the duration of our 5 day stay. Not saying that we wont go back, but we are definitely not as impressed as we used to be and will certainly be exploring our options.

This was our first time to go to Pioneer RV park and it will most definitely not be our last.

They have a great thing going here including: good spots (we prefer the premium rather than the standard), pools (one with a hot tub), rec center, meals on the weekends, Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning is great, movie nights for the kids, office with ice and basic supplies, dog run (our puppies could not wait to get in there everyday), etc.

The boardwalk is a short walk to get to the beach.

If you do not have a buggie to get back and forth to the beach, a beach entrance is not very far down the hiway and then it is just around the corner to dune #35 where the boardwalk is for the RV park.

We have friends and family of all ages with us.

Room Tip: Premium spots offer much more room with some grass on the spot.
