I have stayed at the Sea and Sand Cottages about once a year since about 2008. Sometimes I have been alone, other times with family (1- 6). I have also stayed in a condo handled by the same people. The experiences were different at each place. The condo was newer, better appointed, and more expensive.

The Cottages are rustic, more authentic Port A. The little retro court-like individual buildings have been in Port A a long time and have gone through hurricanes. They are 'updated' with older furniture and decorations. I think they are cute and have a vibe that the newer, more cookie cutter places can't. Although they are not on the beach, they are walking distance to places to eat, shop, and drink. There's even a convenience store close. Even though they are close to the amenities, they are quiet and secluded. They whole compound is easy to miss if you don't know they are there

Overall, the cottages are a great place for people who are looking for separate places for multiple family groups, for those for whom walking to conveniences is important, someone who wants privacy 'in the middle of everything, ' anyone who is interested in the true Port A experience, and those who want to cut the lodging expense.

I will be back.

We recently stayed in cottage #7, cottage was not updated at all, old wall paper, kitchen utensils, pans look like they were found at a tagsale, dishes had cracks. The worst part was coming back to the room and finding dead roaches in kitchen and bedroom. Also there was carpeting in the bathroom-gross. The bedroom rug was stained.

I would recommend staying at a hotel were there are standards. I would not stay or recommend this place.

The location was nice.

We had a lovely time at the Sea and Sand Cottages! Matthew was very nice and helpful, the rooms were cool and clean with a bit of kitch to them (1950's) kitchen, etc. Beds and bedding were comfy as was the couch and recliner (we stayed in #2) and the back porch and swing were nice (just a few mosquito bites). Our dog even enjoyed the stay, though the cats on the property almost pulled him away. In short, this will be our place to stay in Port A!

Room Tip: #2 was just fine, ask Matthew about availability and amenities of each cabin.

We stayed three nights at the cottages (4 of us). They are older but cute cottages. Interiors are ok but dated and had quite a mix match of furniture. Kitchenette is very small with not much room to do anything. The cooking pots and pans/utensils provided were minimal and really needed to be replaced with newer. I would recommend you bringing your own if you plan to do much cooking. I would not call the kitchens “fully equipped” as the website says. Stove was old and did not work very well. The website says that spices are provided, but all they had was salt and pepper. Some of the items they said were provided were not in our cottage or we were not provided enough for our stay, we had to call a couple times for them bring us more. There are charcoal grills on the grounds, but not one per cottage. They are about 7 blocks from the beach, definitely too far to walk if carrying chairs/coolers, but they are two block off the main street. Not bad for the price though, although I prefer being closer to the beach.

I was traveling with a group of 14 on May11-14. We decided to book 4 cottages here. It was nice that we all got our own place and weren't on top of each other. Each cottage is a little bit different, some are a little larger and nicer each one we had was a bit dated. The 4 we had all seemed to have a miss match or furniture,drapes,blankets,etc.. It was kind of like they just use what they can find at a garage sale or on sale cheap somewhere. They all have 2 bedrooms, small kitchen/eating area, futon in living area and 1 bathroom with a front and back porch, as well as 2 parking spaces and a decent sized grassy area for BBQing, dog walking, letting kids play, etc... The grass wasn't mowed and was quite tall when we stayed here so I was a little worried about snakes when walking my small dog, luckily we didn't come across any! We stayed in cottage 6, it seemed a little larger to everyone than 3,4 and 5 and had a covered back porch, it's at the end of all the cottages so it had the largest yard. Our bed wasn't very comfortable, it wasn't the worse I've slept on but not the best either and the shower is very small but all the cabins had small shower, except for 3. Their is not way to turn around when you pull into your parking spots, you have to back all the way out (not to far) or back in when you park. If you can't back up well this place probably isn't right for you! These cottages are approx. 7 blocks from the beach. We always rent a golf cart to get around in so it was a nice location for us. If you plan on walking it might be a bit far. There is a fish cleaning area that some of the guys in our group used, they said it was nice. The location was quiet. We will more than likely stay here again, it was a good price for the location and what it had to offer.

Room Tip: I would ask for cottage 6 or 7 if you want privacy and a little more room outside. They are at the end of the cottages and have more grassy area. Cabin 3 had a larger shower, so if you need more space this one is for you.
