“Should NOT be rated anywhere near the top of area restaurants”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

We had a large group of 15 family members down for a holiday weekend to Port A. On our first night we were looking for a place to get dinner and found Marcel's and thought it would be a good option considering its overall high reviews. WRONG. The ENTIRE experience was horrendous. First, the service was horrible. The staff members REPEATEDLY insulted people in our groups telling one of our girls when she sat her butter knife on the table, "You have a plate for that" and picked it up and moved it to the side plate. Secondly, one of our other group members got up to go to the restroom, and the same waiter proceeded to say, "Your chair needs to be pushed in when you get up", and moved the chair for her. Thoughtful? We think not. It was rude and insulting to us as customers. It was not ettiquite standards of a high end restaurant because this is certianly not a 5-star restaurant. The waitress separated our party by "teams" in order to keep our tickets in order. Sadly, the "team" names could not even help her remember who ordered what. Our orders came out in three different segments ranging over about 45 minutes. The last of our food did not arrive until an hour and a half after we arrived. On top of that, the restaurant is not quaint- it is straight out of the 70s with horrible decor and overall rundown feel. In addition to that, I'm not even certain the air conditioning was working due to the humid-hot atmosphere. The food does not even redeem this establishment. It was subpar and the staff, of course, was not willing to make many substitutions in orders. The shrimp was not even fresh shrimp- it was frozen shrimp. This restuarant is on the coast for goodness sake. At least get fresh caught seafood.

In short, this place was horrible and completely inaccurately rated. Save yourself the headache if you are looking for a nice meal.

“Good food but small portions”

The food was very good but the portions were very small. Nice atmosphere and quiet comfortable dinning.

“Good ambiance and a very good German meal”
Reviewed 17 April 2014 via mobile

We wanted to do something different than seafood so we asked some of the locals where to go - they recommended Marcel's and we were very happy. The Schnitzel was excellent and the German beer was a perfect compliment.

“Go in and eat well”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

This place is one of several in PortA with gormet food cooked by tempermental chefs that moved here to run restarants by there own rules and the food is amazing. Soups are my favorite. They often run out of popular items and it isn't open every day or very late, but it is sooo worth it. Don't be put off by the appearance from the outside. Go in and eat well.

“Prepared perfect”
Reviewed 7 April 2014 via mobile

We had jalapeños stuffed with crab....crunchy crust, spicy with a lot of crab. Veal shoulder and veal scallopini, we both enjoyed our veal and would order them again...excellent. The fresh vegetables, side salad and spaetzle is a cut above other restaurants. We will be returning soon. Thanks for the good service too.
