This was our second stay at The Beach Lodge. We stayed there last year and decided to stay again this year. Only difference was we upgraded to a deluxe room and it was much better. The only problem we had was there was no remote for the TV and it took them 2 days to find a remote that worked. We didn't go there to watch TV anyway, so it wasn't a big deal. The place isn't fancy, but is a great place right on the beach with a restaurant and bar. The people are friendly, service (what there is of it) is OK, and the restaurant is probably the "best bang for the buck" in Port A. We'll definately stay again next year.

Room Tip: Take a pillow with you, Their beds are not the best and the pillows are terrible.

Great place. Economy room is very cozy, suited our weekend needs perfectly. Right on the beach. No fancy stuff here, just good people running a great little hotel and bar/kitchen. The food was wonderful. Would definitely stay again

I went to this place and my dog injured herself on the slippery stairs that are everywhere. I paid for three nights, but by the morning after our first night, she was a pitiful sight, barely able to walk. I don’t know about how others feel, but seeing a beloved pet limping horribly and almost falling down was heartbreaking to me. I informed the woman at the bar – which is the reception, the cashier, the restaurant and everything else – that we would have to cut our vacation short and leave after only two nights. I had to get the dog away from there as I was having to carry her (and she’s an 80 lb. Lab) down the same slippery stairs so she could do her business. I was later told by the woman that “The owner cain’t give you no refund.” So, I had to pay for an extra night that I did not use. We were out of there by 6:30am the next day.

But you SHOULD go there. Go there is you feel comfortable with a clientele that has more tattoos than teeth. Go there if you like tiny, squalid rooms – I’d say our room was 12 x 8 feet and there was already sand in the shower when we checked in. Go there if you want to see the smallest bath towels I’ve seen since my middle-school gym class – barely big enough to encircle the 26 inch waist of a 15 year-old male. Go there if you don’t mind having zero housekeeping service as there is none. Go there if you don’t mind being gouged for an extra night you didn’t use.

The hotel is on the beach but you still need to get in your vehicle and drive around several blocks to take your chairs and coolers. The pool is nice. The employees are friendly. The bad things that I experienced on my trip included a poor mattress, sheets and towels so old that they scratched, no box springs, the mattress was placed on top of a concrete and tile foundation, the remote for the tv did not work and they did not have any replacements. That would not have been so bad but the tv was very high on the wall and could not be reached without standing on the other bed. There was not enough parking in their lot. The breakfast was decent. I saw no healthy choices on the menu. If you are looking for just a place close to the beach this is it but if you are looking for comfort and quality for the price you pay, this hotel is not it.

....if you seek a quiet place for contemplation, writing or drawing, this is your spot to dream away. You'll meet a colorful variety of people while still keeping enough privacy for your own mystery and inspiration.
The rooms are small, but that'll make you make the most of the outdoors and the beach that is right across the seaside drive. The oysters are fresh and the view from the deck in the early morning breeze is what will win your heart over.

You'll want to come back to this place from another era that'll make you feel like you are next Hemingway.

Hanging out on the beach gets better if ya have a room at The Beach Lodge .... been there lotsa times ... the burgers are really good and the service is mostly on island time ... after all, Port A is an island ... rooms are not fancy, but they are 100 feet from the water ... there's a fresh water pool, gift shop and a restaurant that is open all day ...

The Beach Lodge is pet-friendly ... super laid back, as it should be ...

beware tho', cause you will need reservations ... I've only walked in for a room once ... so call ahead 'cause ya really need to stay there ...

Room Tip: the economy room is really small

If you are headed for Port A for fun & sun vs room service & massages, then this is the Place! Beach Front just doesn't get any better. The Motel layout makes it easy to meet new people, or avoid them! Lots of decks & private areas. Very pet friendly, water buckets for your furry buddies out on the decks. The view over breakfast along with the morning breezes is the perfect spot to relax, & plan your day.
The rooms are modest. The economy room is very small, but super affordable. Our room was spotless. Sheets & bedding fresh smelling & clean. Our A/C unit wasn't cooling as well as we thought it could, & with in minutes they had it cleaned & flushed, & was running like new. Bring a hair dryer, & there aren't coffee pots in the room, but the bar has coffee by 6:30am. Chuck, Gaye & the rest of the staff were very welcoming & were wonderful to deal with during our week stay.
We had a great time, not too many places you can still have a campfire & beer on the beach.
So recap, if you want a 5 star resort with a day spa... this is not your place.... but if you want a kicked back, fun loving holiday, up close with mother nature this is Paradise in Texas!
