I'm not sure which came first, but if you're looking for a decent BBQ joint north of Ft Worth, Spring Creek (not far away) is much better and virtually identical in the cafeteria style service. The food was fine, not bad, but SC is better and SC serves hot rolls during dinner. Not much service to speak of after leaving the service line. I'm surprised our hotel recommended them, frankly.

Friday 7 p.m. Took my wife to Big Barn for dinner. This is the same building where Cotton Belt BBQ used to occupy some years ago. Tonight I sure do miss them.
As always, you wait in line to order. We chose to share the three-meat plate and two sides ($13.49), had ordered individual drinks, one iced tea ($1.79) and one water($0.00).
We also chose a sampling of both their sweet and the spicy sauce and chose our table next to the window so we could people-watch after a long (16 hr) day at work.
The sliced brisket, which is advertised to be be smoked using Pecan wood, lacked the aroma and taste of ANY smoke and the chicken was dry, as if had been cooked previously and just reheated in the smoker but the Jalapeno sausage had good flavor. The sweet sauce was excellent, as was the spicy one, yet too spicy for my wife's taste. The fried Okra was also good, as well as the green beans.
So why two stars? When you live in texas, you know how brisket is supposed to taste when it has been properly rubbed with fine spices and smoked for at least 12 hours. This is NOT that brisket. The flavor all came from the sauce.
In addition, we had some uninvited guests competing for the food---flies. They were taking their spots by the window and seemed to take turns attacking our plates. We shooed them and even killed a couple of them, but then decided that we did not need to pay for average food and then compete with flies. We could not find a manager to speak to so we simply left the restaurant.
Sad to say, but Spring Creek wins the taste test for BBQ--and for having no flies in the dining room.

Great atmosphere & live music but the BBQ not so much. Fall off the bone ribs had no flavor but the spicy BBQ sauce was excellent. Banana pudding & both blackberry & peach cobbler were yuck.
I'd stick with the brisket or chopped beef that you can drown in the sauce & enjoy the beer & music.

While the food is good the service just sucks, the place is run by a bunch of teenager who stand around like idiots, don’t even know how to greet ppl when you walk-in the door, and no-one seems to know what they are doing or what is even going on with the business. I really think the only thing that keeps this place alive is the outdoor patio and live music which is very cool but in my mind service is key in the restaurant business and it just doesn't exists at this place!

The food it ok. We went on a Sunday for lunch. They had just opened and they were out of chicken and baked potatoes. The service was so slow. We had friends in line behind us and we were done eating by the time they got their food.
