Reno Red's Frontier Cooking
Ranked #3 of 68 Restaurants in Roanoke
Certificate of Excellence
Cuisines: American
Description: Just who is Reno Red? Look out the windows and gaze back into the time of the great cattle drives of the Old West. The Chisholm Trail was not far from right here. Among those hard working cowboys along the trail that carried half of all the cattle in Texas, was the great chuck wagon master, Reno Red. Cowboys knew when they saw his chuck wagon it meant there was going to be some good eatin' and tales to tell. For most cowboys the chuck wagon was truly their home on the range. And if the chuck wagon was their home, the cook was their king. Because the morale of the men and the smooth functioning of the camp depended on him, the cook's authority was unquestioned. Reno Red is our "Chuck Wagon Master" and the inspiration for our decor and our menu recipes. We have many of Reno's favorite original recipes. And just like Reno, we cook our food on an open mesquite grill for that true frontier cooking experience. Time has come for the tales of Reno Red to be told. We want our customers to know who that cowboy is in our logo. More tales to come . . .

After having read the two "terrible" reviews, we still decided to go. We walked in and the place was very clean. In the dining area there were no cob webs. The crocks that were on the shelves were glistening. It reminded me of a restaurant I tended bar in many years ago. We had the special which was fried catfish with the vegetable on a stick, sweet potato fries, fried okra and corn bread. The fried foods were not the bit greasy and the corn bread was delish. We really enjoyed it and would go back. Oh, our waitress was fabulous.

“Great Date Night!”
Reviewed 24 December 2013

We went to Reno Red's for date night and had a great experience! We started off with a delicious queso...unique and great! Then had steaks for dinner. We had a sirloin and a filet. They were both great and each had its own unique flavor! We will definitely be back!

“We come here once a month”
Reviewed 13 December 2013

Get the Reno Nachos with brisket! Hands down one of the best things I've ever tasted. My favorite is the gulf shrimp skewers entree. It's so good! My husband loves the two step with ribs and brisket. I heard they make their own blue cheese dressing, I don't know if its true, but it sure is #2 best blue cheese dressing I've ever had. Plus I like our their salads are served on a chilled plate. And they serve their drinks in mason jars, which makes DR. Pepper taste so much better. Service is always very good. Sometimes, if it a busy night, it can take a while to get our food. We like this place better than Hard Eight, which is down the street, because Reno Reds is more consistent.

“We love this place!!”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

This place has tons of charm, interesting décor, wonderful service and delicious food! We especially love going for the lunch specials as they are very reasonably priced. Last time our lovely waitress even brought our two kids a special ice cream treat at the end of our meal. There's just no other place quite like this one and we highly recommend it!
