We just came back from 3 days in Rockport, and wanted to relate the great experience we had. It's a great little place to get away from the typical touristy hype and hoopla associated with mega-condos and resorts. Be prepared to enjoy the following: little/no traffic, friendly people everywhere, delicious views of the sunrise/sunsets, and lots ot places to drop a fishing line. We stayed at the Lighthouse Inn and were always treated like royalty. Watching the sunsets in the rocking chairs out on the lawn with a glass of wine was right down our alley! Please take the sunset cruise that departs from behind Charlotte Plummers restaurant. The captain takes you out to San Jose Island to see what wildlife/birds are hanging around there and is generous with his knowledge of Texas history and information about the wildlife of the area. The shops downtown are great to visit and see what interesting souvenir you can't live without. Take a short drive to see the Big Tree and Goose Island State Park. No - Rockport is not a resort mecca, but there are those of us who want to get away from the madding world, and this is just the place to do it!
