Description: Chef Ted Grieb has taken his talent to a new level ! The Fatted Calf, on the square in downtown Rockwall, specializes in "Down Home Chic" food at a reasonable price. Formerly Old Timers, the Fatted Calf is a comfortable, upscale restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. Special dinners and evening events take place throughout the year. Daily specials are offered and feature only the freshest, seasonal ingredients. The genesis of the restaurant came from the need for a high quality, comfortable dining establishment in Rockwall. Ted was raised by his mother (a great cook) and father (a great fisherman) in southern New Jersey where he developed a love for farm fresh food, freshly caught seafood and large portions! Everyone in the family has a love for food, including his sister Beth who makes the jams, pastries and desserts for the restaurant. Chef Ted has made his home in Rockwall with his wife, two adorable daughters, four crazy dogs and three friendly cows. Manager Blake Kirk is always available to help you find a table or place an order! They have both been essential in the opening and management of The Fatted Calf. They and the staff at the Fatted Calf aim to please and will always greet you with a smile. Shoreline Restaurant Corp., The owners of Culpepper's and The Oar House as well, saw the talent of Chef Ted and the opportunity to take The Fatted Calf to a new level. The Fatted Calf moniker refers to the daily celebration to be had at the restaurant, where friends and family can meet for a quick bite or an extended stay. Come check out our beautiful new look and our fabulous bar. Happy Hour and dinner will be a must !

After waiting 15 minutes for a table when there were PLENTY of open ones we proceeded to wait 15 minutes for our drinks then 30 minutes for our food which was good but over priced. Not acceptable and not going back.

I was anxious about this place as a TX friend recommended as it is well known for delicious fresh breakfast, but their dinner menue is not very plentful. However me and 4 colleagues chose it for dinner. The place was not packed at 6 pm, unlike many other traditional Texan diners; the decor is kinda standard. We ordered Fried Pickles and Calamari Rings for startes, and drinks... Mojitos were nothing special, appetizers arived within 10 minutes and were okay. Entrees did NOT disappoint: my salmon was not dry, with a nice fruity tang; my mashed potatoes tasted like at home. Guys had HUGE ribeye with whole baked potatoe and onion rings and tomatoe on top, looked VERY delicious; snow crab needed some struggling and crab cakes were not bad. All in all, food arrived withing 20 mins after we ordered, some might think this is slow, then you are really not enjoying your food and conversations with friends. The restaurant is near tonwhall square that is currently marred by roadwork. I was not disappointed, had a satisfying meal.

Finally visited for brunch after church & can't wait to go back to try more menu items! It's a small restaurant on the square but the food is one of a kind. Unique twists on traditional dishes & all fresh ingredients. Great variety & quaint atmosphere. I understand they have live music on weekend nights so I look forward to going back & seeing what that atmosphere is like. I know I won't be disappointed in the food!

Fatted Calf is what you might hope to find in an upscale, educated but laid back community which strives to preserve its "small town" ambience. It prides itself on serving locally grown produce, meats, dairy, etc., all with a unique twist (which would not be an option for chain operations). Located "on the square" in old town Rockwall, it is a favorite amongst residents and especially for breakfast/brunch crowds on weekends. In response to demand, these items are now available up to 2pm daily. Menu strives to offer a little something in a cross section of food tastes but is not extensive due to emphasis on what is available seasonally. Quality and preparation are the features here along with upscale, country ambience. Wait staff is frequently of the novice variety but unfailingly friendly and accommodating,
